You Scumlanders are very one eyed or possibly even blind completely.      Bubbles is every bit as good a driver as your youngies.     Up North as you all love to point out, the horse population has dwindled due to the rampant rising costs and with beloved Jacinda's mania for turning all the farmland into residential areas the outlook looks bleak for anything with a rural factor.    Harness (and thoroughbred) properties are continually on the market with the overseas investors swooping like hawks.     Unfortunately cannot see any likely change with Cindy and her lefties together with Phil the Nil running the show but of course miracles can happen!    Go Leo$$$$

Eljay, with respect he isnt at the moment!

With the poor fields up at Cambridge and Auckland you would think you would be

able to win a race up there in 80 starts!!!

You clearly know Bubbles, and your right to defend anyone you want, and I respect that!

Hopefully he wins his first race shortly, merely pointing out that it seemed a bit of an anomaly that one of the Norths best has never won a race in 80 drives!

Go Bubbles!!

Unhinged, are you serious about mile racing??

We need variety in our racing not boring miles like  they have in the U.S.

Hey there Young Brodie I remember I think it was the Monsanto Mile races at Addington what a great spectacle that was. (Probably before you were born) If I remember correctly the leader at every Quarter Mile was paid a bonus. That was great and everyone got a crack at the carrot. With the horses bred for speed now days its time you got with it and stopped being negative all the time. I dont need a "Political Speech" in any reply as a matter of fact I dont want a reply. You should be putting all your political crap on the NZ Herald chat site instead of polluting this great racing site.

JAKH, nice to know you are still SAFE!

We have been breeding from U.S. speed stallions for decades, if you had not realised.

As for politics, I didnt realise that I made political speechs!

I just state the facts!

Seriously though there are 11 licensed as Juniors in the North, one of whom does not seem overly keen on driving these days and another is pregnant.    This leaves just 9      Two of the three not in N.I. team only recent additions to the driving ranks.    The ranks are very thin!

Things are bad that is for sure. Tonight, Alexandra Park has 10 races and there are only two junior drivers with drives. Leah Hibell and Crystal Hackett two drives each. Ranks definitely thin and trainers not supporting juniors mean that harness racing in the North is in trouble.

I think you'll find most (if not all) the other available juniors are in Christchurch for the championship

What was the criteria in the North to qualify for the N.I. Team?

One of the drivers qualified for the N.I. has not won a race in 2 seasons of driving and over 80 drives!

Not trying to be smart and I am sure the young fellah can drive a bit, but does seem odd doesnt it?

Well what do you reckon the criteria was Brodster?

Here's a clue - they needed six spots and there's only eight active juniors in the north island.

And when the finalists were announced, one of those eight, Crystal Hackett, had been driving for about two weeks. The other, Leah Hibell, had had four career drives.

So what does that big, smart brain tell you, guy?

Let me help you out a little further. A very quick google search gives the points earned. Hopefully this satisfies all your tough questions.

And let me save you the effort, Captain Obvious. Yes, it's lop-sided and yes the North don't get anywhere near as many opportunities to earn points.

RELEASE

The qualifying period has finished for the championship which will feature the top six junior drivers from each island based on points. The qualifying period began on August 1 last year with winners of any Junior Driver race throughout that period gaining 7 points and winners of any other race gaining 5 points.

Last year's champion Kerryn Tomlinson is back for the South Island team which will be captained by John Morrison, while the North Island will be led by Luke Whittaker.

North Island
Luke Whittaker (Captain) (217 points)
Alicia Harrison (175 points)
Andrew Drake (69 points)
Zev Meredith (65 points)
Nathan Delany (55 points)
Kaleb Bublitz (26 points)

South Island
John Morrison (Captain) (630 points)
Sheree Tomlinson (434 points)
Sarah O’Reilly (413 points)
Ben Hope (383 points)
Mark Hurrell (345 points)
Kerryn Tomlinson (288 points)

Hey Bud,

Well if you open your eyeballs when you watch the TV screen, esp when it goes close up on her, you will see that it is on her helmet the front of it. Well at least it used to be. So yeah ANYONE can see that 😁

Well Thurs nite it was actually hard to see R8 on Rough & Ready there Brods, even I was squinting to try to see, had mud on it. Anyway looked like the same helmet she had on the blue one with a horsey pic above it. If you google it her name with helmet & take a look it shows clearly. But anyways moving on 😄

PS I don't want to post the pic here as she might not want that & no sorry no idea why the nickname.
