Horses being Exported in big numbers!

Just looked through the exported Horses list on HRNZ, and there was approx. 50 horses exported mainly to Oz last month.

This seems like a lot of horse i. One month but maybe it is fairly typical?

Obviously owners do not see the point of racing horses here nowadays for $8k?

Something has to be done to increase turnover so that stakes can be increased and worthwhile for owners!

Suggestion would be for the NZ TAB to encourage more wagering, or is that too radical?

Harness racing at the moment is pretty dour stuff, tomorrows fields are small,if you miss tomorrow's racing then chances are there will be repeat screening next week,Invercargill race thursday, what will the numbers stack up like,?...turnover wont really change much for any code, only so many people who bet and only so much money for those who do,the reason why stakes have gone up maybe because of the operating cost cuts the TAB did last year,be fair to say that the spike in stakes might be a one hit wonder, things will probably level out,as for harness racing it's pretty average stuff, but when you look at a lot if those aussie meetings things here ain't so bad but in reality harness racing runs a poor second to the gallops.

Do you know where we can find previous months / years ?

Na I dont, but I am sure someone will be able to come up with it Ranga!

Very interesting to see the horses that have gone offshore now!

Years ago The qualifying trials used to have good size bumbers in the fields, nowadays often there are only 2 or 3 in a field, sign of the times unfortunately!

Will be interesting  to see what the new stake money is going to be in the new season

Been going great guns with the winners from NZ. cleared over 4k from around $400 outlay with the Great constellation carnival through July , and those juicy Amazing Dream wins, etc. excellent.

Last night a grand go at Albion too. 5 out of 6 for me, with just Tommy Lincoln missing in the first race (third).

but we saw SMOKIN BY (that horse of Kerr's from there) and Gammalite favourites ALTA ORLANDO and OUR OVERANOVA storming to deserved victory!!! , getting in some good multi's. no need for any footy/olympic bets with these type of horses around town, lol.......

A horse Won I never heard of , a NZ winner at Westport and , Rangiora in the summertime, called SPORT MENTAL . I seriously looked at it for a first Albion Win chance,  but didn't push the button unfortunately.

SPORT MENTAL trained by a 'Colin Godden' . Is that a kiwi trainer ???

Please Brodster, tell them to send another trotter like this bloke to Queensland.!!!  (photo last night)

Retiring after last night's win , the old boy  OUR OVERANOVA ! once again off 40m handicap with Grant Dixon aboard for yet another great win, and Bowing out after 203 starts for 64 wins and 39 seconds (so in the quinella more than half his starts , even off the huge handicaps! ). 500k earnings.

Please, please send us another beauty like this with the exports !!!!!

There would be wins in Alexy  in Oz if he was placed well.

One of O’Connells past their used bY date in NZ  when he first went over looked like a champ, not sure whether it is still winning?

Alta orlando and Our overnovaover have certainly been wonderful horses. The commentator said it was our overanova's last race. Won over 60 races i see. As for smokin bye, well  he got the perfect run and  got up to beat a field with 5 ex nz horses. All which were about 3 win horses over here. At least he has got some form, but the aussies that bought him originally and lost big time didn't really do their homework when buying an ex kerr trained horse.

Think Brodster is right , and a very common site is this in Aus these days with the many exported horses.

Also an exported kiwi trainer today !! lol. RICHARD BROSNAN just won the trot at Melton Victoria. He is now 72 . !!!

Son (and co-trainer Emmett usually does the driving these days) Think Richard got the shits with NZ in 2018 when fined $20,000 and three horses disqualified for Cobalt. so packed up and went to Victoria.

BONNIE'S CHANCE won the NZ cup by 7 lengths in 1982 for Richard, a brilliant win. Primed for the race of course by Gammalite who defeated her in the Auckland Cup earlier that year with a typical Powerhouse Performance !! lol....

This was the article on saw and encouraged a share last week. Ill share it here. Had started a thread about it (are exports prices increasing due to low breeding numbers. Meaning supply demand - Im still wondering about that.
