Chief Stipe
Just thought of another one. Bonham - now in Tony Golan's stable.
nomates
Aegon , The Chosen one , Elephant . The immediate group races would be looking much poorer without the Te Akau horses . We could be lucky to have a G1 in NZ inside the next 5 years .
Gospel of Judas
Always going to happen with the cost to stakes level in Aussie currently.
Bloke
We have generally seen an exodus of top horses across the ditch for many decades. Problem now is that we do not have the quality remaining to race here. I recall Syd Brown in 1969 taking a large team over which included one of my favourites, Daryl's Joy. The Aussies, at the time were waxing lyrical about Vain but Daryl's Joy who was a stayer slayed him over 1400 Metres. Vain was at 10 to 1 On and Mooney Valley was full to watch Vain canter home. After the race it was like a funeral as Vain suffered first defeat. Daryl's Joy went on to win the Cox Plate and VRC Derby and then onto USA to win big races which included The Santa Anita Stakes. He and Sunline I think are the only two NZ horses to win Group Ones in three different countries 4

Pretty sure he ran second in several European Groups 1s, including Italy and England I think.

Now that you mentioned Italy and horse racing, here is a question, how many places have horse racing, I know I can google but for now I can't be bothered. Won a Group 1 in Italy but was relegated to second. Second also in the Eclipse and Coronation Stakes. His second to Alleged in the Arc no doubt his best performance and unlucky not to have knocked him off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JmWHPiz0uw Great day at the races though. Chief Stipe
I guess the responses about sums things up. More want to reminisce about Balmerino who raced 42 years ago than our up coming Spring Carnivals.

Since Purcell left we have seen absolutely NOTHING from BS Saundry. As for Cameron George unless he has secretarial resources available to him in Australia we won't see any output from him and he won't be back in the country until Christmas at the earliest!! Even if the Warriors are now out of the playoff's. Actually wouldn't George as CEO of the Warriors have had more work to do back here in NZ than being "on tour" with the team? WTF could he have contributed to the training of the team? Actually looking at the results perhaps he did contribute. Arranging hotels and transport is hardly a CEO's job is it?

One wonders if it was an opportunity for him to get home, I guess though he may be there to set an example to the players. But being the Chairman whilst o'seas all this time is just a massive joke!
