Brodie
Just watched Majorca win it 4th race from 4 starts at Albion Park, since leaving NZ. Previously trained by Gameson in Canterbury, the Majorca that raced here was ok but wasnt that brave! It has just won in 1.53 after sitting parked a d drawing the outside of the second line! What this is saying and what I already knew is that NZ horses are a class above the Ozzies. This is happening all over Oz, very average horses in NZ are killing the Australian ones.

You must get fitter the way they are raced and trained. As you know the races arent sit and sprint affairs like they are here in NZ, the parked position is a prime position and not a lot of horses will give that up. Unlike here when its called in the death and not many horses like it except those trained to be tough. Better than average NZ horses seem to thrive on the tough schedule in Aus. Its a wonder not more NZ trainers dont try and copy the Aus way of training in my humble opinnion. Would make racing more exciting than our norrmal follow the leader style where there are always plenty of "unlucky" runners. They dont die wondering in Aus

I also think its a combination of faster tracks, and g dixon the trainer gets his horses to run consistently, which it lacked here. That may be partly due to when it first ran in australia it was against horses of slightly less ability than it raced in nz ,but the last couple of runs its been able to maintain its form.If you look at the horses it beat last night when they went 1.53,they included skippys delight, franco nandor and sense of occasion, all ex nz horses. Skippys delight still is the same skippys delight from nz. Near the end of his nz career he always ran here like he had some type of issue holding him back, and over there hes pretty much the same. Horses like him who pointlessly are asked to chase round horses that run forever in fast times in age group 1 and 2 races generally pay a price.Having said that hes getting to run in many 1 mile races now which should suit him,and surely he may get a win one day soon there. I've been following the queensland races recently, and i don't think it is the state where any improvement in a nz horse can be put down to something illegal going on. Agree with some of your points mate. But to be fair the Gamesonian stable has not produced the winners for the past few years. Once upon a time, the stable was good with impressive two year olds but those days are long gone. Majorca's Australian trainer Grant Dixon is on another level or two up from Gameson; he is also a good driver. So there are a number of factors: horses seem to improve in Brisbane, maybe better climate; better handicapping system; better trained; more racing opportunities, smaller fields and shorter distances. Just my thoughts... Edited August 28, 2021 by Davis

Also the fact they are racing over a mile also helps a lot of average horses.
