It's a race track. Have some Match races. A thoroughbred at the 1200m start v a pacer 1 lap from the winning post.

Would attract a lot of attention , easy to organise , just average galloper and pacer needed for a small prize.

run between races . plenty of room for chariots and the like as well. No one puts in effort to get interesting thins happening is the problem.

GREAT IDEA THERE GAMMS. Great to see someone actually coming up with ideas oppose dissing others ideas with no actual input themselves.

Have updated list to add your Chariot idea too. Bold are the new add ins 😃

1. UPT ENTERTAINMENT on offer BIG TIME - some potential examples have been listed.

2. Get rid of wasted/ non used stand Alex. (Updated Elijah advises stand most likely to disappear once sold as area up for sale).

3. Give out vouchers at BIG DAYS for peeps to have an incentive to return to a normal meeting e.g. Cup Week.

4. Charge on certain special days e.g. Jewels, maybe FAMILY DAY or Derby Day.

5. Create atmosphere beyond those in corporate ALL inclusive rooms - food/drink.

6. Unrestrict restricted punters, so they can bring back peeps back to race-course their kids, friends & family.

7. In between races have a Chariot Race.

8. Have some Match races. A thoroughbred at the 1200m start v a pacer 1 lap from the winning post.

9. Could focus on 1 big day of the year similar to Cup Week or Jewels Day & try to make it a BIG popular day similar to gallops Boxing Day at races.

In level 4 for another week, so plenty of time on hands to await these brilliant ideas from Ranga & also reason for why he chose to mock Vivid Memories Thread & sudden desire to post memory on this thread later.

Also awaiting Ludwigs input to an actual brilliant idea too. Maybe even Kods could throw something in too that is worthwhile adding!

Final day to put in any ideas for Alex P.

Ranga still has 3 ideas that he told us he has to share so hopefully get those in today.

Also await his reason why he chose to disrespect our Vivid memories thread. The only poster to do so, even Forbs put in a nice memory.

Prob dig Rangas idea the best, not that this is a competition, but its really cool. Looks like there are spout type things built into sulky that fireworks comes out of. Looks like an epic ENTERTAINER this Vincent.

Funny thing is that when I put forth ENTERTAINERS as an idea, this ENTERTAINER idea was none other than mocked by Ranga.

Now he comes forth with a fab ENTERTAINER idea.

It's an absolutely genius idea if you must have gimmicks to attract new customers.

I felt forced to come up with something to appease the OP.

If Karrots manages to entices Vincent and his Hot to Trot roadshow to Alex Park I am certain I will boycott the meeting.

I had been there a couple of times about 1980,lines of 15-20 people at all the betting windows 10 minutes before race start,many being shut out of getting a bet on. Huge crowds in stands located up the straight before the winning post.

I went there 20 years ago.Three people in the remaining stand before the finish.I then went and stood near the winning post and that was a poor viewing spot as seemed to be lower than track. Thats my memory. Then went and watched the next few in grandstand near finish,but noted very few of those in attendance had any interest in watching the races when they were running,either socialising or eating depending where they were.

What i did note was the next day called in again to see why there were well over a thousand cars parked there.I was greeted by a man at the entrance who advised it cost $5 for parking as there was some big event on nearby. At the time i thought this clubs onto it and you had to think harness racing would survive at alexandra park because of its many income streams.

So my point is they have been trying and failing for decades to attract people on course for the racing,so no matter what the gimmicks,nothing much will change.

And now due to awful business decisions their income streams have been reduced and they are also selling many of their remaining assets which of course further reduces income.

My suggestion is they face reality,cash up and relocate while they still are so asset rich.They are responsible for the survival of harness racing in the north island,they can't undo whats happened,but they can try and turn the negatives into a new positive if planned properly.Part of that planning should be to locate into an area which will attract the public,the focus of this topic.

After all you did not post on the vivid memories thread. Even tho I had singled you out as someone that is good at writing about those types of things.

So why feel forced here & not there?

Would you agree that it is ok for us to hold different views on some subjects & not on others?

Would you agree that Alex P & the North are going downhill?

Would you agree that the status quo is not working therefore the most likely projection should this continue is downhill further?

What would your suggestion then be for the North to move forward in a more positive direction?

No pressure nor need to come up with a gimmick or whatever in your words. Something that might actually make a difference to the future of the North & Alex P. After all you have come onto this thread & posted multiple times.
