nz cup

There was several points of note about yesterdays nz cup which made it a good watch.

1)blair orange is the best in the business, possibly the best ever, and what i like about him most is it doesn't matter whether its a low grade race or the nz cup,he performs every time. Hes a role model as far as honesty and integrity, punters know that every time he goes out to drive, and i think for those reasons alone it was great to see him win.

2)Ray greens training ability. My wife has been telling me for some time that Green would have Copy Fhat primed for another top performance in the nz cup, but i had been telling her you don't see horses perform at their peak all year, then right through the winter and again at cup time. But Green had the horse spot on again, which was a masterly training effort.

3)The start. Donnelly's first nz cup would have come with added pressure, and with several nervy horses on the ur it was always going to be difficult, but everything fell into place and he let them go at the exact time everyone got a fair start.I do get tired of those in the media going on about last years start as its not an easy job,but it was great to see all drivers and the starter were in sync yesterday.

4)another top training performance by the purdon /cullen barn and top drives by their stable drivers gave everyone who followed them  a great sight. They may have got beaten, but they helped make the race exciting.

5)Laver/g o'reilly. Laver is a very courageous horse and O'reilly wasn't intimidated by his opposition and drove him to his strengths and added excitement to the race.

6)another top call from matt cross,as usual.

all in all, that race reflected well on what makes harness racing such a great spectacle.

A fantastic Assessment here and agree 99.8% with these great 6 Points you made, except for 2 words.

I would change the very first two words you used from "Blair Orange ' to the accurate one of 'Mark Purdon 'or 'Nat Rasmussen' lol.......

However , when those 2 x multi Interdominion, any Cups going, Miracle Mile  (and everything from Ruakaka to Perth to 550m saucer QLD tracks and everything in between ) winning drivers RETIRE >>>>>>>>>

we could sub your two B.O words back in again to use for active SI drivers still.

So Orange is better than Maurice Holmes, Peter Wolfendon, Ricky May, DD, Tony Herlihy among others???

Well he (Blair) is certainly the man of the moment I spose, and can enjoy his 2nd NZ Cup in past three years. good luck to him.

Now that is one horse that is really never getting the reward it deserves running against Copy That, Diamonds CullenPurdon and SCA all the time. big in race he went in jewels , etc.

I really hope they consider INTERDOMINION next month as a target, He could handle the 'Heats" and  the 'distance' of the GRAND final. the 2 hot fav's (McCarthy Pair of KingofSwing and Expensive Ego are on their home track for Interdom)

They are vulnerable at long distance ,as Amazing Dream showed putting them away in Brisbane in Winter. LAVER would be a good tough Nzer like a  ALTA ORLANDO or TRIPLE EIGHT (2nd in Vic Cup over distance at his last start) type of horse Who Could Win It .

So as I understand,  The Purdon/Rassmussen Training partnership resumes from January.

Anyone In the know why this team made such a big thing of stepping away from Training, and finding a new young trainer to take over, then he seemingly gets the ass..

All of a sudden horses are going like the team of old...

Seems abit shady to me 🤷‍♂️

Your supposition doesn't hold up to scrutiny based on facts.

Anyway according to @Brodie they never left.

Chief, they didnt really leave!

Going to Ashburton from Rolleston probably doesnt count!

They were always pulling the strings from the time they said they were taking a break from training!

Most people know this though!

If they get approval for subdivision of  their land under the flight path, I reckon they will be taking another break!

Can not see Cullen wanting to stay on as a stable boy though

Who cares.  Like most things though those that "knew" can't be really certain they did.

Is this not a freedom site to ask what we feel? I'm sorry if it hits the wrong buttons, but it's black and white

Sure you can post what you want.  You just did.  I pointed out that your supposition doesn't hold up to any scrutiny.

You haven't actually stated anything black and white.
