LBJ --I first saw LBj at Avondale when he came north for the Guineas

In one of the most disgraceful episodes in NZ racing the stipes refused to let Poblette ride , saying he was too inexperienced to ride against the Northern jockeys

They replaced him with [I think] David Peake, the horse was ridden 'upside down' and failed badly

Argentina -I do not know if its still the case but they used to run 20 races with the jockeys  allowed to ride in either the odd or even numbered races

Many of the race tracks in Chile are outstanding and the facilities whilst very old are wonderful, at Club Hipico in Santiago their track in downtown has 20 races somedays that start in the afternoon and finish under lights. The Grandstand has grand salons that host weddings and concerts and you'd think you were in a grand mansion of yesteryear......if the world ever gets back to some form of normality, do yourselves a favour and spend some time in Latin America experiencing their horse racing, you wont regret it.

Very big racing jurisdiction , many top horses , jockeys and breeding stock come out of Argentina .

One of my all time favorite jockeys , Tito Poblete , not sure on the spelling , was from over that way , Freda will put me right , Chilean i think .

Him and Little Brown Jug , great combination .

I recalL him riding PEP or FIRPO who may have been a son of PEP.Memory is gone,

Its a pity they don't do that now after watching some jocks.

Yeah, the populist answer would be, ''wasn't he the President of USA once?

I remember the big badges the woman pinned on their chests "all the way with LBJ" but Lyndon was no Trump and it referred to the upcoming election

Firpo was indeed by Pep and Alberto rode him numerous times including at least 3 of his wins.

Showing my age but the first horse I ever raced was by Pep.

Yeah...there was a fair bit of controversy over his appointment as starter.   ' Jobs for the boys ' has been mentioned.....apparently barrier lads called out 'wait, wait..' as Jason wasn't ready either.  But the warning wasn't heard.

I see one of the starters assistants (white overalls) started the last without even mounting the rostrum, what's the go there? Was Boof stood down? Did he stand himself down? Is the man in white overalls superior? How old would Boof be, must be getting close to a best before date?

The connections of Linedanceking must have been feeling a bit sick seeing it win the race without the pilot.

Think Barry had an ownership share in a runner, so had to stand down,  yes.

I rode Pep gallop one morning with JF Harris on Red Loki, his forelock was longer than most horses tails, he was only small but geez he could gallop. Heckle [Wally McEwan] used to ride him bareback to the track, what a quinella those two were.

Tito may have ridden Magellan at some stage, was trained by Hellen preston, very tidy performer, by adios ll from memory, remember her good old coast soft track horse, ernest, was a bold looking black, handsome, one of my favourites back in the day, Helen horses always turned out well and I always thought she was a very good trainer, hopefully my thoughts are correct, the older memory sometimes better than the present day one, fury another one just popped into my head by Beaufort sea, a very underrated sire.
