Has a terrific opportunity to kick a few goals at Ipswich today and increase her profile in the Queensland riding ranks.

Has already ridden the first winner and has some excellent rides for both Tony Gollan and Lee Freedman to come.

She's made inroads with one DLF, he's smitten......

From what I have observed, Samantha, and this from a punters perspective, she has good balance and is kind on the horse, and they settle for her, but she lacks a tactical brain, and that's her downfall. I do not wish to be unkind, we are not all perfect, but to be at the top in the jockey game, you need to be able to read a race and apply the appropriate tactics very quickly and this aspect I suspect is her achilles heel.

"The rains" have hung around longer than normal in Queensland.

What are your thoughts on the Ipswich track on Saturday  Joe?

Gee the fence was off yesterday, even from the first race, by the last is looked like Farmer Browns paddock......come Sat and with further rain forecast it will be very interesting Mooncoin, thankfully the main meeting is at the Sunny Coast eh? If they put the rail back into the true at Ippy we could have some argy bargy and some busy stewards I'm guessing.

Thanks Joe, rail looks pretty much  the same as Wednesday. With drying  winds, I'm  predicting a slow 7/8

Yep, got one in town yesterday  Kods!

To be  fair, she is riding the bigger stable 2nd or 3rd choice in a race in town. She will get her chance in time, but getting  plenty of ride which is good for her.

Seems to have worked out Ipswich  and  Sunny Coast, giving some of those Aussie jocks a riding lesson.

Keep up the work rate Sam.

Brisbane-based jockey Samantha Collett will fulfil a lifelong dream of riding on the world stage after accepting an invitation to compete in the super-rich Saudi Cup jockeys’ challenge at Riyadh later this month.

The premiership-winning Kiwi hoop now calls Queensland home but will be chasing the huge money on offer against some of the world’s best in the points-based competition.

Competing on both dirt and turf, Collett says she is champing at the bit to get to Saudi Arabia after knocking back an offer in its very first year.

“I turned it down a few seasons ago when I was back home because I was staying to ride a horse in the Derby,” Collett said.

“With Danielle Johnson getting her opportunity, it has presented itself again, it will be pretty amazing I’d say.”

Fellow Kiwi jockey Lisa Allpress made history in 2020 when she became the first female to ever win a race in Saudi Arabia when she won the opening leg of the international jockeys’ challenge.

The challenge is run across four US$400,000 races, with the jockey with the most points at the end of the night taking home a $30,000 bonus.

Jockeys rides are randomly selected prior to the races, mirroring that of competitions also run in Japan and Hong Kong.

Collett will join the recently retired Glen Boss in Riyadh, but she remains typically laid back about what is in store for her trip.

“I’m not too sure how it came about to be honest, Lisa Allpress went over and had some success a few years ago and she is from New Zealand so I think they were just looking for another good Kiwi,” she said.

“I’m there for the Friday (Feb 25) night at this stage but I am going to be there for five nights, I will be there for the barrier draw, the Saudi Cup and then some trackwork on the Thursday, we race the Friday and the big races over the weekend.

“Bossy is coming from here too, it is going to be awesome. I’m not too sure how it works, it is some kind of points system.

“ I went to one in Japan a few seasons ago on the back of winning a premiership and it was amazing, so good, they paid us well and put on a good show and the racing was on another level.

“The whole culture thing over there is going to be interesting for sure.”

Collett is one of just nine jockeys already announced for the lucrative event, with another five still to come.

Jockeys from the UK, Ireland, America, France and Sweden are also represented on the night so far.
