Huey
People employed within the industry on big money to make the industry worse much worse than what it was, could have achieved that without any body needed to be employed for that.
Chief Stipe
They did irrigate earlier in the week but given the forecast may be not enough. That's the problem with not keeping up with the irrigation at this time of year on soils that are stuffed. I watched some races from Hawera yesterday and it was a dust bowl. Hawera is one of the better tracks in the CD with a peat profile. I'm picking that the second day of trots there will be a mud bath and well and truly root Hawera! Chief Stipe
Look at this race yesterday at Hawera which is just down the road from New Plymouth! What's it going to be like after another Trot meeting tomorrow!

Chief Stipe
Why couldn't they postpone for an hour as it is pissing down and let the water soak a bit more?

Joe Bloggs
Well I'll be.......did anyone walk the track? Stewards? jockeys? trainers? anyone?......two horses gallop at 6am maybe? sometimes races abandoned in QLD because torrential rain [like 70/90ml] in an hour or so, and water pooling on the track, QLD summer, but what happens in NZ is comical, except for the poor old owner and trainer that travels in some cases hundreds of kilometres only to be kicked in the guts, how many Petone suits travelled up? oh glory be, bring on a Royal commission, the queue would stretch from the Cape to the Bluff to give evidence and cry foul......you think? Chief Stipe
Bit bizarre really the track was a D5 at 6:30am. Downgraded to a D6 after only 2mm of rain. The heavy rain started to arrive around Race 1. Why couldn't they have delayed an hour? Then reinspected?

Could just see them add them to wairarapa then see it canned . They have to be added to palmy on Friday especially the 2yo and 3to races as they are important races in horses preparations going toward bigger targets . As you said tho i can see them pocket the cash and give everybody the middle finger.
nomates
I am currently staying 15 mins south of NP and I can tell you it has been persisting down since midmorning, it is still pouring and i would suspect the races would have been gone by 2PM with either surface flooding or poor visibility, I drove past the racecourse at about 2PM and it very very wet . You'll need your wetsuit then, a bit chilly in board shorts hanging 10 on the long board, being an old Bay Boy. 1

It's not really loyalty HR , I don't know your history but i have 40 years of entrenchment in the industry, that is not something that is easily dismissed or erased from your soul. Where you are completely correct is the lack of appreciation shown to many with more credence than myself. 1

The rain started shortly after 9am where I live (not far from the track). Until then there was no more than a few spits that would have had no impact on the track. The logic for the amount of irrigation applied to the track during the week mystified me (as it did others I know, a trainer included). The whole of racing in NZ is like working a trainwreck happening in real time. It beggars belief.

I'd be sure it won't be slippery, it's been raining including some heavy downpours here in Masterton since 4am and they were expecting more than us down there. Stupid thing is they are not inspecting the track until tomorrow afternoon when there are plenty of Northern horses entered who would need to be leaving in the morning...maybe to big a task for NZTR staff on a Sunday morning to get out of bed early and go look
