Actually your'e right hesi...in fact he has apparently said he is going to release it 'in its' entirity'...once he's read it..

SO...why not release it right away? Why shouldn't all of us, i.e. anyone who has any interest or part to play in the racing industry read it at the same time he does?  Only one reason that I can think of, and thats because he's in the crapper with his coalition partner/s GREENS and LABOUR over promises he has made and is trying to figure out how to extract himself before we all get to see what Mr Massara is predicting.

Anyway, it is Peters prerogative when he releases it, within reason

He initiated things, he got someone of Messaras stature to do it, that's a lot more than I can recall anyone else doing.

Didn't see any Nats ministers doing that, can't recall any CEO's of NZRB or NZTR taking or calling for such a radical initiative, they just collected their exhorbitant salary cheques each month and churning out reports pushing out the day of reckoning beyond their tenure.

Could be all smoke in mirrors on Peters part, I hope not for the sake of the racing industry

You're so so negative Kop

Why not celebrate the report....yes, thanks to De Lore....and the winner of the T Media Award this year...no doubt

...but Winn got the whole thing actioned...after 9 lonnnngggg years of doing absolutely f all with that goon from Kapiti

..mind you that's what the Knats did...sat on their hands for fear of being labelled "nanny state"

nah, he hasn't actioned anything.  In line with the rest of this lot, who seem to have initiated 100 such reviews and reports and done nothing else but raise taxes.

He actioned the report you fool...

...and when he gave the Racing Industry their tax break he said..

"don't waste it"

and they did..

Winn's done more for the Racing Industry than the Knats have ever done....

...raising taxes is called user pays for building infrastructure

Something the Knats didn't have a clue about

Unless something drastic happens, north that is not south, how will racing survive in NZ? Look at the betting pools, that's not where the revenue is coming from, it's sports betting that's propping up NZ racing.

Many times I sit and try and decipher how the take out props up stakes? we know they have cut the amount of races, it makes the bottom line look better, but if you take 20% out of a pool of 50K and that's being generous, you add in the salaries, ancillary costs, how then does a race carry a stake of 25k? it just doesn't add up?

I've been self employed for 40 years, I wouldn't have survived with arithmetic like this, yes we had to borrow, and take risks, still taking risks after all these years, but NOT with other people's money!!!!.......they borrowed against the reserves the industry had, with what consultation with the industry? Spare me please, unless there is massive reform in NZ, it's the Titanic.....and there may not be as many survivors, well financially that is.

Back around 2006-07, following the tax parity gained in the 2005 election, NZ owners and trainers were elated and optimisitic with forecasts of 40% stake increases all around. After a big Derby win in Aust, Murray Baker was  on the Aussie retro programme,  chuckling about the " scrapbook " being the popular option, as opposed to the " chequebook "  i.e selling the horse.

That chuckling was a long time ago

Oh dear you've got it bad ain't ya?

You sound like that Horowhenua Horo show that used to post on the other site Kop

As the Unions have stated...these actions all started during the last term and have nothing to do with the present Gumment

Hekia Pearata thrashed the teachers into working harder and harder...then requiring screeds of paper work to appease the suits

Its all coming to a head...thanks to the pathetic hands off Key Gumment...

....too scared to actually GOVERN...in case they were labelled..."nanny state"

Just enjoy a This Government Kop...and relax in the knowledge Cindy's in control

Jacinderella is just as hypocritical as the rest of them in Gumment ...stands there holding baby during an interview 'as a mother' ..wants privacy for her child - but comments on the Canadian 'non-speakers' issue ...clearly making statement as PM ... so she's using her baby as a political tool. Cant have it both ways girl...keep the kiddie away from the cameras

Maybe there was no other option. Clarke might have wanted to go fishing.

More than likely has to come out before Aug 17, as Messara has agreed to a Q+A session at Waikato Racing Club on that date

Messara added to Te Rapa function billing

Already guaranteed to be entertaining through the presence of Australian jockey legend Johnny Letts, the race eve function scheduled for Te Rapa later this month is now bound to be a sellout with John Messara added to the billing.

The Waikato Racing Club today announced that the author of the widely touted Messara Report has agreed to attend the function on Friday August 17 ahead of the Gr. 2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate raceday.

After being commissioned by Racing Minister Winston Peters to conduct a full review of the New Zealand racing industry and immersing himself in that task with trademark alacrity and wisdom, the former head of Racing NSW delivered his report earlier this week.

Messara’s appearance at the Te Rapa function, which will take the form of a Q+A session with broadcaster and committed racing enthusiast Simon Doull, could well be very timely given his report is now in the hands of the Minister.

Now up in the air according to Ken Rutherford.

Negotiations ongoing with Peter's office about timing of the report release, so the Aug 17 date can go ahead

I presume Messara will withdraw if the report is not released prior to Aug 17

Is that because the report will remain embargoed till after then and not much point him turning up if he can't talk about what's in it?

Well that shouldn't be the reason. Sounds more like Peters doing the ' usual' and being the prima donna.

Didn't the going pear shaped start about 20 years ago.

When someone posted that the average Aus country meeting turnover is $7.5 mil, it really emphasised that there is only one way out of NZ's racing woes, increase wagering turnover, substantially.

If they cut costs, then they have the resources and a chance at executing a plan to do do this, but it is going to take a magic wand, so very interested to see what Messara has come up with

Does anybody have any update re when the Prince(ss) who is going to save NZ racing might deign to favour the grovelling masses ( those of us involved in the Titanic/racing in this country) with his presence and/or release the report he's been sitting on for at least 2 weeks?

You're excited at the prospect kop...

Just a bit of anxiousness creeping in that makes you dislike Winnie even more

Knowing he's got the key to our future and you've got as much power over him as a Knats 'no f in idea' idea...

Keep da faith you doubting Thomarse
