What’s Doing? Heza Sport in the NZ Cup!

Surely this shows that our tighter assessed horses are the weakest they have ever been ?

Heza Sport a good promising horse but you would not have thought that it could gallop away, and first up still beat those other ones gunning for a cup start automatically!

Good runs by the Geoff Dunn runners but seriously we seem to be lacking the class horses we were used to!

Think I still prefer the loose class racing, far easier to pick!

A great competitive spectacle last night in that race.

A 6 win horse with only 15 starts comes out and wins. That type of horse winning in years gone by would have been very unique.

The time they went, and the way they ran the race, should have some effect on some of the less race fit horses.Wouldn't have been ideal.I know addington is an extremely fast track, but there were some tired horses and some reasonable gaps at the finish.

There is a reason that race is normally such a tame affair. Those running in it want to have runs that help them get fitter, without over exerting.Still great to see everyone try so hard.

Interesting as wasn't that long ago you had to have 10 wins to be in the NZ Cup. The Falcon with his close 2nd last night, also has only had 6 wins. But is very dour like stable-mate Laver .(9 wins to date) Davis rates these 2 horses highly , so I like them.

Geoff and James Dunn a strong hand if they can qualify them both. (Laver 6th last year in the Cup in 4.00) if he can improve 2 seconds on that is in with a show. Bit of Stable team work ? with The Falcon, and a Rigid 'Set for the Race' Training and racing schedule >>>>>>>>>  leads to having a shot at the Quinella in the Big race .????

'Marky Boy' Purdon will be in the road a bit with SA , but sometimes you can get a bit of roadkill (like last year) if it's your lucky day.

personally I think if most these horses make it to the cup in top form then it’s going to be a very good competitive race. So very good stayers In this line up which should make for a genuine race. At least the top 25 are all at a minimum placed at group level multiple times

It was a very good staying race last night , & that horse (Hezasport) has always been a nice horse & after a freshen up he showed he’s come back as a genuine open class type. Some horses just take a bit to adjust to racing the big guns

a lot of the horses that will be racing in the cup are still yet to step out this season, so you hardly can say it’s not a nice bunch. There’s some very very good horses racing & last year people said the same, but 80% of the field had won over ten races. It’s probably more a reflection that it’s hard to win ten races. For example one of our 3 win horses had to race copy that last week, and he raced well but it becomes hard for him to get to ten wins when he’s straight in to an open class field after a handful of starts

No, you are wrong my old mate. Heza Sport galloped but didn't lose any ground and more importantly didn't cover any extra ground. That was the difference at the end of the race.

The win was no surprise if you saw the trial two weeks ago (I did), where Heza Sport beat The Falcon and Laver in a sizzling time. That trial was the pointer for Friday's race. Heza Sport drew well and that made the difference in the end because he got qa couple of lengths on The Falcon.

The Robert Dunn horses were well beaten. The likes of Heisenberg are good horses but not top liners. Heza Sport, Laver and The Falcon are better horses than them now. The Dunn team driving tactics were nullified too which was very good to see.

You are correct he didnt cover any extra ground by being on the fence, but he did lose ground at the start from his gallop,@# he was 3rd last early on!

Yes he did go very well at the trials the previous week as did Sporty Charlie.

It doesnt really worry me too much as I dont invest on tight class racing
