Brodie
It was with sadness that I saw on Trackside today, of the passing of Trevor Wilkes. Seemed to be liked by everyone and was a commentator of the dogs for something like 43 years and only recently retired from calling. Was a very good commentator of harness as well mostly did the West Coast circuit years ago, but also had stints at Addington . Enjoyed life and will be missed by many and left us before his time😩 2
Newmarket
Very sad indeed. Was always a pleasant guy to talk with, shame his health deteriorated quickly. I remember his first harness race call many years ago, a good horse in Field Commander won his first race at Ashburton, in the first race on the 10th March 1989. I think Reon was in Australia for the Inter Doms. He sounded quite a bit like Reon at this time 3
mikeynz
Reon Murtha had a wide variety of things he ended up covering, a Royal Wedding of all things. Gee some of the next lot don't seem to last long. Edited March 9, 2023 by mikeynz

I remember when i was around 7 or 8 years old, listening to a race with my old man on Radio Pacific from Addington and i thought it was Reon doing the calling, but was informed after the race that it was Trevor, definitely sounded a lot like Reon, and he didn't miss a beat either. Sad that this disease got the best of him rather quickly. RIP Trev and condolences to his family and friends.
Honestjohn
Sad news indeed. Reminded me of Darren tyquin passing as well years ago. Never called any of my horses, but may have called my dog?? Makes you think of your own mortality doesn't it. I'd like to pass in my sleep like my m. I. L did. RIP Trevor. Hj

I hadn't heard that about Trevor, on the other hand Dave McDonald was a bit of a punter I was told. Never tipped the horse he was backing.
