  1. That's a very narrow range. Verry Elleegant won Grp 1 races at more distances than Frankel. Frankel was a freak but a narrow freak.
  2. Why don't we compare Frankel vs Verry Elleegant? She'd win overall by a mile. She had 39 starts. Frankel 14. She won from 1400m to 3200m.
  3. Yes she was tired. How many UK horses do what she did in her last two seasons over a range of distances let alone run 2 high class 2 mile performances. Her last Melbourne Cup run was elite and she was unlikely to ever come back from that.
  4. Well they quoted Warren Kennedy after the post-renovation trial. I've being trying to work out who should be laying down the law on the problem. You can't rely on the Jockeys nor Trainers as they have too much skin in the game. After Karaka Millions there was a fair amount of disquiet amongst that group. So it sits with the Club, the RIB and NZTR. In my opinion the RIB should be the organisation that without fear or favour is banging heads to get a safe and fair surface to race on. Afterall isn't that what integrity and horse welfare depends on?
  5. Hasn't Matt Cameron done that before? I'm not pointing the finger but I've have this nagging memory that there is a commonality somewhere. As for Senior Jockey's - who exactly?
  6. Oh so you now have three separate arguments. Werther kicked off in NZ. Trained out of Otaki if I recall correctly. Certainly measured up in OZ and Hong Kong. You chose one example I chose one. Werther won a Group 1 over a middle distance in HK.
  7. You're kidding me? It may come right in the sense that it will be a broken rough surface and horses can get a grip but still won't be a nice consistent surface to gallop on. As for the Jockeys did Guerin ask them what was the difference between Karaka Millions night and the two abandoned meetings? Other than stakes.
  8. Interesting that you should point that out. I did a calculation the other night but wasn't brave enough to post it in case my math was off. One cubic meter of sand covers 10 square meters to a depth of 10cm. If the top layer is 30cm then 3 cubic meters is needed per 10 meter squared. So roughly (1800 length/10) *20 width)) x 3 = 10,800 cubic meters. A cubic meter of sand weighs 1682kg. So 10,800 cubic meters x 1682 kg = 18,165,600 kg or 18,165 tonnes. I'm sure @barryb will correct me if I'm wrong.
  9. Far from not good enough - rank incompetence. I see a common theme in the approach so I'd love to know who is advising them.
  10. I think part of that is to do with the different training and racing approaches. Both struggle to adapt to the other.
  11. But you've only given one example. Yes but as you would surely know quite a few horses don't adapt to the environmental and training conditions in Hong Kong. I'll use one example for Hong Kong - Werther.
  12. So you base your opinion on one race?
  13. If they bought two 2.5% shares one in Espionage and one in Imperatriz they'd still be way ahead. But you are not comparing apples with apples. Espionage was bought for a Stallion making syndicate. Now that really is a lottery regardless of the tax breaks. Imperatriz given her breeding always had residual value as a broodmare.
  14. MEETING NEWS Awapuni Synthetic Trials Cancelled The Awapuni Synthetic Trials scheduled for tomorrow (23-04) have been cancelled due to insufficient entries.
  15. Where did I say that? As with any investment in the bloodstock industry where and how you choose to invest can affect your return. It also depends on what your strategy and goals are. If you are looking for a black type success then an investment with Te Akau is better than most. For example you could have been the lucky last to buy the last share available in Te Akau's 2019 yearling draft which just happened to be Imperatriz.
  16. Wasn't there light years back to the horses he beat in Europe as well?
  17. Bullshit. How do you arrive at that conclusion?
  18. Of course you don't get my point as you are blinded by bias. Aside from the fact that ANYONE who buys a share in a horse with any trainer is buying a lottery ticket some investment strategies have a better chance of return than others.
  19. Imperatriz has won $7m. Take off $1m for Training Fees, trainers and jockeys %. That leaves $6m. Let's argue she sells for $7m. Take off the Trainers clip and other expenses including the original investment and round the sale price to $6m. $12m net multiplied by 2.5% and you clear $300,000.
  20. Who said there was nothing wrong with the horse? What was the syndicate told?
  21. Why the front concussion plates?
  22. So since the camber hasn't changed how many times were meetings cancelled on the old track for slipping?
  23. Open my eyes to what exactly? If you know as much as you infer you do then you'd know why the horse was retired.
  24. So when did the first horse slip? Did the Stewards inspect the track after race 1 or race 2 or race 3...? Or gallop a horse on the problem part BEFORE the race started?
  25. I'll also suggest that the trainer reassesses if the Jockey reports his horse didn't cope with the right hand way round for the first time. Compare yesterdays report with Karaka Millions night. Maybe The Easter Handicap isn't iconic enough for it to have continued. I see the proposed new Moonee Valley track is going to have bends with a radius of 125m and a camber of 3.5%. The final bend at Ellerslie has a radius much greater than 125m.
