They'd have to wear full length rash shirts and trousers.

We already have some good grass tracks that dont need fixing but the suits have decreed that we can't use them. Plus the $50million spent at Ellerslie hasn't worked out that well yet. Meanwhile Pukekohe is stuffed and there is a Mexican standoff at Avondale.

COBOL? AGOL? Mainframe? Only jobs left in COBOL are with the IRD. The facts are the system is broken and they didn't "reinvent the wheel" - they bought something that was supposedly already tested and tried. They failed in the implementation and or the difference in system to requirements alignment was greater than 15%. PS: I first learnt a programming language (ALGOL-W) 50 years ago.

TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Who's naive? ENTAIN can't charge more costs to TABNZ - they have guaranteed a net revenue for 5 years. What could they possibly charge TABNZ for in the next years? However McKenzie did push TABNZ costs out to the three code administrations e.g. marketing. -
It is broken. They weren't apparently - they were migrating to a system already used in Australia. I suspect that part of the problem was the data and for some dumb reason different rules we have in NZ compared to OZ. Based on 35 years in IT Project and Programme Management the most common problem is a lack of clearly defined requirements or poorly defined requirements. Followed by poor infrastructure investment.

So 18 trials 20 February on a Good 4 track at Tauranga and the track is not able to be raced on in 9 days. The trials next Tuesday scheduled for the Matamata track are now transferred to Cambridge on the AWT - mmm how many trainers will want that? Meanwhile Matamata is expecting 25mm of rain tomorrow and will race on Saturday 24th then 5 days later again for the Tauranga meeting. Mmmm will the Matamata track have "recovered in time"?

MEETING NEWS Raceday and Trial Changes – Feb/March/May Raceday: Due to the unavailability of the Te Aroha, Tauranga and Hawke’s Bay tracks the following changes have been made: Thursday 29 February: Unfortunately the Tauranga track, which was inspected after trials on Tuesday, will require more time to recover and will not be able to be used for next Thursday’s meeting (29 February). As a consequence this meeting will now be a Matamata meeting at Matamata. This means that Tuesday’s trials (27 February) will be moved to Cambridge. Friday 8 March: This will now be a Taupo RC meeting at Taupo. The Mdn 1600m that was programmed will now be a Mdn 1750m while the Mdn 2200m race will become 2000m. Thursday 23 May: This Hawke’s Bay meeting has moved to Sunday 26 May and will now be a Woodville-Pahiatua RC licence at Woodville. Trials: With the movement of the above raceday, and other club-related issues, the trials for the Northern region will now be as follows: Tues 27 February: Now Cambridge trials. Tues 12 March: These trials have been pushed back 48 hours to Thursday 14 March due to the Taupo track being unavailable on the Tuesday.

Fairly obvious isn't it.

Yes and now he is playing with Racing Industry money.

I'm fairly sure that it isn't TABNZ buying the horses. ENTAIN is. They are using the TAB brand. What few people realise is that there is still an expensive set of suits employed by TABNZ. The wagering/revenue component has been outsourced to ENTAIN.
-
TABNZ or ENTAIN? They are two different entities.

Goldstar Hans had had 4 starts in 18 days recently. 3 of those within 7 days.

TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
The returns to the industry are guaranteed but profits for ENTAIN are not guaranteed. I don't really see much being done that is different to the past except larger amounts being thrown at stakes so how will profits increase? We know that there is an inverse relationship between higher stakes at elite level and wagering profits! What really worries me is that the pattern is getting further skewed (screwed) and it is undermining the very thing that made the NZ bred horse successful. NSW are going down the same path and cracks are starting to appear. The bias towards horses of the year in the age categories will become further skewed towards those horses that win the sweepstake races NOT necessarily the best horses racing. -
Unnormalized Data Leads To Pointless Presentations?
Chief Stipe replied to Yankiwi's topic in Dog Chat
Pot Kettle Chazza. Chazza you are quick to post illegally sourced raw data on another sub-forum but refuse to post your own data. Contrary to your fears if your data is accurate and the assumptions drawn from it are accurate when subjected to recognised statistical methods then you are appeasing your critics NOT feeding the sharks. Your failure to post the raw data opens you up to criticism that may or may not be fair. Sadly the end result is your credibility is reduced. Worse contrary to your goal of "saving greyhound racing" you are aiding its demise. Feel free to continue posting your brightly coloured spreadsheet extracts that have no validity. -
Here's hoping they fix their website and race replays. Give HRNZ a call they have it sorted. Popups are 15 year old tech.

Fine then you are only interested in your biased agenda rather than dog welfare. If you are confident that your data stacks up then you would post it. -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
NZTR are disconnected from the Customer. They have only one. ENTAIN has the relationship with every punter. You are contradicting yourself. If NZTR don't understand the relationship between all the stuff they are directly responsible for and wagering then yes racing will be still in the shit. NZTR's CEO saying he doesn't understand wagering nor IT doesn't bode well. -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
If I was CEO and I had one customer (ENTAIN) that provided all my revenue I'd want to know absolutely everything about their business. I'd also want to know how to make their business more profitable because I win if it is. Now if Sharrock doesn't want to learn he should either step down or let go of his sport agency and learn. -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
FFS NZTR's revenue comes from wagering. If you outsource that and have no idea about it then well you are destined to get right royally walked over and lose your shirt. What's worse is now NZTR has a middleman clipping the ticket!!! -
No he's a dumb dog or a cheat. A smart dog wouldn't attempt to take a short cur that would injure it.

@Yankiwi will you please publish (upload to BOAY) all your raw data. Then other data scientists can review it for its veracity. Thanks in advance. -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Maybe they are looking to monopolise the other big wagering brand in NZ - the All Blacks. It is head in the sand stuff for any of the racing partners in this arrangement to not address the fundamentals of making wagering on NZ Racing profitable. I've seen enough over the last 3 decades of the marketing hype and the fundamental issues not being addressed. -

Forgot to mention the lack of investment in tracks! IS that in Sharrocks realm of expertise? -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
The obvious corollary is NZTR and TABNZ outsourced a key strategic function - their IT again is seems without maintaining any internal senior IT management. The end result? 10's of millions of dollars down the gurgler for TABNZ and a $4m failed IT project for NZTR!!!! The first rule of business is NEVER EVER outsource a key strategic function UNLESS you are prepared to acquire internal management expertise and MANAGE the relationship!!! -
TAB Problems - ENTAIN's solution - bring it inhouse!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Thoroughbred Racing's SOLE source of revenue is from WAGERING! (License fees are nickel and dimes by comparison). If you outsource the acquisition of your SOLE source of REVENUE then you need to manage that relationship from a position of knowlege NOT ignorance. Otherwise it isn't a partnership!!! What makes it worse now is there are THREE entities involved - ENTAIN, TABNZ and NZTR!! Just like we smiled for all the Winston taxpayer "gifts"over the years - the $1m races, the new AWT's (that no one really wants), the $56m bailout of the insolvent TAB. Ask yourself this question if NZTR, TABNZ and ENTAIN are on the same page and have a mutal understanding with regard to wagering what happens in 5 years time when ENTAIN aren't making enough profit to maintain the current largesse? Very little of the windfall is going where it should be going instead it is being spent on novelty races that screw the pattern. The majority of the trainers, clubs, owner and jockeys aren't getting sniff of it! What's the bet the big novelty races start getting raided by the big Ozzie trainers under the guise of having bought a yearling at Karaka?
