Well I think they have got the internet up there now.

Happy Sunrise objected to how I run BOAY and decided to leave. I'd rather leave it at that and say no more.

This is one reason why the Industry is toast....

Which page of the annual report is this on? Took a long time to show any leadership. Took insolvency followed by a pandemic to induce any type of leadership. He wouldn't be getting a top up for his other role in the industry would he perchance?

The issue is the broadcast in state of the art HD way beyond what most of us either can physically see or our access devices and networks can handle. It is lunacy! Not only that but TAB NZ is paying through the nose for this broadcasting contract. It was one of two (3?) contracts that has driven them to the wall. Why have "world leading" High Definition broadcasting of below word standard racing? Just because we can see better pictures (if we have the access devices and network) does it make the "product" any better? No it doesn't. I really don't need to be able to count the number of hairs on a horse's nose but I do want to see an uninterrupted broadcast of a race on my phone wherever I might be. I doubt they even bother to do customer interviews or user testing.
-
I have a Samsung 10S+ ....I can guarantee your average punter doesn't have one with that spec. I've tried all sorts of things to improve it. It is ther broadcasting set up not the phone nor my internet connection. Hell I can watch live streaming of TVNZ on my phone no problem. The protocols they are using are totally inappropriate for the service. Have a look at the number of Megabytes you consume if you watch a full day's racing online. It's ludicrous and yet again shows no understanding of their client base.
-
Don't have Sky. Always keep at least 50 cents in my TAB account so I can watch online. Speaking of that - does anyone else have problems with buffering when using their Smart Phone? I have ample bandwidth at home but some times it is just impossible to watch on small screen mode. Hardly ever able to watch on full screen mode. Plus the HD streaming is so unnecessary and just consumes excess bandwidth for no visual gain.
-
How do you know the cost? Is it used every month? Not illegal and well if it gets the results.
-
For what you get that is cheap compared to most thoroughbred trainers. Geez I know some useless IT contractors that wouldn't get out of bed for anything less than $150 an HOUR! Where did the horse come from? Had it already been broken in and tried? I can quite imagine that a horse that hasn't been in the All Stars system from a yearling would have an expensive start up cost. A bit like shifting to a new Doctor. If the new Doctor is any good then they will do a thorough health check and get all your bloods done. Same with a horse. Then when you find out what is right or more importantly what is wrong then you fix it - that costs. Whether it is $6k or $5k it is a moot point debating it as we don't know what was included in the bill. New rugs, new shoes, new hopples, new bridle and bit, vet check, blood tests and so on. I imagine the first serious in race training bill for a yearling that you got Purdon to purchase would be a lot less.
-
Where is your proof Brodie? Regardless even if it is $5k a month that's $40k a year for full work. I know from experience that you don't get much change out of $40k per year to race a galloper and you only get 10 starts in a year if you are lucky!
-
Shall we put some perspective on the cost aspect. First some assumptions - two preps in a year at 4 months each and 4 months off; no major vet fees due to injury; extras included in the total per month - never JJ or Brodie have indicated what is included or not included so one must assume it includes float fees, staff accommodation and Natalie giving your horse a pat every now and then. JJ Flash (pissing from inside the tent) says $3.2k a month - presumably in full work! So two preps in full work that's $25k. Brodie says north of that at 5k so that's $40k. $25k = $100/day - there are thoroughbred trainers charging a lot more than that plus extras. $40k = $160/day - that's on par with your Sydney or Melbourne thoroughbred trainer and doesn't include Gai patting your horse. Your average galloping trainer doesn't actually ride your horse and the big league probably only spends 10 minutes with your horse each day - even then that would be rare. When you have 400 horses in work in three locations in two States then it is impossible to see even 10% of them. So what did you get from the All Stars for your money: a quick and honest assessment early in your horse's career - they cull their mugs pretty quickly and sure they get it wrong occasionally but you won't be paying them money based on false promises; scientifically customised feeding based on your horse's individual needs; state of the art premium training facilities and equipment; top line drivers working with your horse each day; at least an hours hands on attention with your horse each day from qualified staff; a bare minimum of 10 mins attention from Mark and or Natalie each day; proven training regimes tailored specifically to your horse based on decades of Purdon experience; no doubt much more. Then of course you get results: a UDR average for the 2014 to 2030 of 0.4675 - that is twice that of any other major stable. Essentially one out of two starts you are in the money; an average of $4m in stakes per year - again more than double any other trainer; 20 Grp 1 wins a year!; other major wins each season - too many to count!; 14 Training Premierships. If you were serious about winning a major race and could afford the fees then you would have been a mug not to have had your horse in the All Stars stable.

Email them. I'm sure they will send you a copy. I've searched high and low and can't find it online. Seriously though when I posted this topic I thought that maybe I was the only one who cringed when viewing the advert. Reassuring that many see it the same way! Again it might be me but there seems to be more and more of the syrupy brush of kindness creeping into the presentation of this sport. It seems every week the presenters are rolling out so and so has died or the line "oh great to see such and such win this Group race as they have put so much into racing...." All very nice but what about some analysis pre and post race instead of the self congratulatory pats on the back?
-
I think it is the actual photo finish but the line isn't drawn on it.

Just in front of Savy Yong Blonk's nose.

It is the photo published on the NZTR website results page.
-
So a hint for trainers is to nugget the nose?
-
I hear you but TAB NZ obviously doesn't! What do you expect though when they don't have wagering experts in the top exec positions just career bureaucrats and racing administrators. But someone would actually have to do some work instead of relying on the system generated odds from the Paddy Power/Open Bet system.
