Really enjoyed the racing at Methven. Big and even fields. From the cup field to the maiden trot, it was all go.
A mix of favourites and long shots was great entertainment.
It's a great track.
I see Airpark Flyer was a longshot but someone has had a crack, from 37 to 15s I believe.
My wildcard is Diana Harbour at 41 and 10s.
There must be some bolters tomorrow in those fields.
They do, don't they.
I do essentially agree with you, it was a tame drive on a favourite who came home well but it is just so hard to justify taking on that drive because they will be setting a new standard and workload for themselves!
I agree.
Watch any replays from any meeting and look at the horses at the tail of the field. See how many stay there throughout only to run on.
If you want a hotpot sitting at the back and doing no work and running on then that would take a bit more effort and I can't be bothered to be honest.
The stipes know that anything can be justified. Look at recent mention in stipes reports and you will see explanations are generally accepted.
Zsa Zoe's would be: Hadn't raced for a month; drew 8; inside horses went out from gate so went back from draw; horse pulled hard in early stages; the running line was very long so was a mile off the leader; had to take the horse through the middle as would have been no chance going wide. Race didn't suit.
Zsa Zoe's drive is completely explainable and within bounds of acceptability.
What are the tactics employed?
Safety first until your best bets?
50 a race and hope for the best?
Go out in a blaze of glory to win or take your winnings or losses and run?
Half the world seems to be entering the comp this week.
I can see it being brutal for most. Will it be last man standing?
I have never been in one but I imagine the lead will fluctuate heaps as people get lucky at odds.
See the Cup market is closed as aussie invader Bettormatch has fallen by the wayside but the Kaikoura Cup pre noms market is up.
I like A G's White Socks.
Any thoughts? Do you think UItimate Machete will start?
