Why are trainers the only ones GRNZ is looking after with the subsidy? Many owners pay monthly fees to their trainer to have their dog trained by them, which includes feeding the dog. In those case it's the owners that will be suffering. Shouldn't GRNZ be treating all their LP's equally?

Hey @aquaman As you know we are mates that go back quite a few years now. While we don't always completely agree on subjects, most of the time our views mesh together quite well. With that & just as a precaution, I decided to go ahead & take a Covid swab of your first post in this thread. The results of that swab have now been returned & it appears that you have little to worry about! So don't be afraid to get out there & spread your legs as Hipkins has suggested. -

A couple of Mormons came around to my place one lazy Saturday afternoon last summer. Front door was wide open & only the screen door was closed and locked between inside & outside. I was sitting in my lazy boy chair with a clear view of the front door when I saw two young lads dressed up quite smartly walk up to the door. They knocked. Without even bother getting up I said "What do you want?". They spoke back through the screen and said they wanted to talk to me about Jesus Christ. I replied "Oh Jesus, isn't he dead?". They then said that's what they wanted to talk to me about because they believe he's coming back to life. As sarcastically excited as I could sound I said "Oh wow really? ...... Well when he does bring him around, I'd like to have a chat to him directly". Oddly enough, it was at that point in the conversation that the two young lads decided to leave my doorstep & exit my property. I'm still waiting for Jesus to turn up. 😄 -

Seems the lock-down stopped Cindy from buying a new burqa... https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/terror-suspect-suhayra-aden-arrives-back-in-new-zealand/ar-AANyKA9?ocid=msedgntp -

You might be able to pick up a once used burqa on TradeMe after this Isis bird over in Turkey gets returned to our shores (if she hasn't already). Surely Cindy will adorn a burqa once again for the cameras, like she did down in Chch not so long ago. It'd be hard to believe that Cindy would favour victims of terrorisms with her show of solidarity over a likely source of terrorism. As PM, it's her job to remain impartial & represent all NZ Citizen & Resident equally, right? -

I sure wish our government made us aware of the impending lock-down before Bunnings closed last night. Going to get cold now in the house because I need some wood pellets for my burner. Countdown or New World don't sell them. The guy at the dairy up the street looked at me funnily when I asked him. Bunnings (where I usually get them) is closed & not even offering online ordering with contactless delivery. Mitre10 is closed to the public as well, although they offer ordering online with contactless delivery in 3 to 5 working days. I wouldn't even have this pellet burner if it wasn't for the local council. They mandated wood burners manufactured before a certain date had to be replaced, even though mine was a perfect nick and only burned the things it was meant to burn, seasoned dry wood. Anyways, could this my way out of the situation? If I volunteer for Rotorua's new Covid vaccine trail, they'll take me in and at least keep me warm until my pellets get here this weekend or early next week? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/rotorua-daily-post/news/covid-19-coronavirus-trials-start-in-papamoa-and-rotorua-for-possible-new-vaccine/AR6GKWCXSITKVRI5LVQSQA3TC4/ -

My guts says they knew yesterday it was far more than one. Then we wake up this morning & four additional cases turn up overnight. Amazing... This government is very good at with-holding non convenient (to them) information. That's why they claim to be our ONE source of Covid information. I trust them about as much as someone that ends their sentence, with "trust me". -
The World's Insane! What was Francis McPhee supposed to do?
Yankiwi replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Dog Chat
Agree @aquaman. A dog doesn't act according to GRNZ rules, it acts due to the pecking order it perceives around it. If something (or someone) higher up in the perceived pecking order in the dogs mind doesn't intervene, things can get really ugly really fast. How would it have looked on the magical TV that the justice system seemed so worried about, if the target dogs ear or tail made in inside the dogs muzzle? Would the RIB have charged the handler for slapping it on its hind quarter then? What if he tried to tug it away with the lead? It's become a sad day in the greyhound industry when the dog is in charge of a handler at the track. -
I'd like to hear too, although probably not the best timing to ask. A tricep & a hock last night... https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/14642/stewards-report.aspx

Gavin seems to agree with you in the initial decision. 19 Mr Whiterod said this was a very serious charge that struck at the heart of the integrity of racing. He said in his opinion the lure driver, more than any other raceday official, was in a position to influence the outcome of a race by the way the lure was driven although he also said that in the discussions he had with Mr Pilcher over the years about his lure driving he had not seen any instances when Mr Pilcher’s driving of the lure was not correct. Mr Whiterod said that he kept records relating to the speed of the lure during the run up to box in order to answer questions that he might receive from owners, trainer and/or members of the public about the driving of the lure during a particular race.

This one? - http://www.jca.org.nz/non-race-day-hearings/non-raceday-inquiry-tr-pilcher-decision-dated-30-may-2011/ The appeal to that case may well be worth a read for Danny. - http://www.jca.org.nz/non-race-day-hearings/appeal-mr-t-pilcher-decision-dated-13-july-2011/ Seems the lure driver in that instance had been spoken to on more than one occasion previously prior to being charged. Surely that sets a precedent for an official betting on a race they were directly in charge of running. [5] Mr Whiterod, the stipendiary steward who appeared for the respondent at the non-race day hearing, said that over the last 2 or 3 years it had been reported to the stewards that Mr Pilcher might have been betting whilst working in his official capacity as the lure driver at greyhound meetings. He said Mr Pilcher had been spoken to on more than one occasion by the stewards and reminded of his obligations not to bet whilst working at a race meeting. That's all you should need Danny, go get em young man!

This saga isn't over & fair enough. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/14636/stewards-report.aspx GENERAL:1). The Racing Integrity Board has received an Appeal from Licensed Starter Mr Daniel Laing in regards to the penalty imposed on him by the Adjudicative Committee dated 26th July 2021. Mr Laing also applied for a stay in proceedings in relation to his disqualification. The Appeals Tribunal granted Mr Laing a partial Stay of Proceedings with the condition being set that he not start any greyhound races.

My argument isn't against saving a dog with a seriously broken leg, it is about putting down perfectly fit & healthy dogs simply at the "request" of a trainer or owner. A simple "tick" box on a form should not be justification for putting a dog down. https://www.grnz.co.nz/Files/June 2021/Veterinarian Certification of Death 1 May 2021.pdf I mean really, a trainer or owner have a self serving tick box on the form & they are not even required to give a reason. However, if it's done so because it's the Vets recommendation, GRNZ wants to know why. Why can't it be mandatory that EVERY registered (either current or formally) dog that doesn't have a very serious injury or other serious illness be accessed by an organization (GAP or the like) prior to authorization be given by GRNZ to euthanize? Wouldn't that be considered proactive towards animal welfare instead of being reactive when the death certs pile in like they are now & have been for many years? GRNZ doesn't want any dogs put down at the track on a raceday because of the way it is recorded. If you don't believe that, then please explain to me why you believe the criteria is so much more lucrative & hurdle free away from the track?
-
The proof of that scheme will be in the pudding. Yes they patch them up at the track & I believe GRNZ now funds the vet costs to get a serious injury (broken leg or the like) repaired. So if "Big Time Whatever" or "Homebush Whatever" have a fracture at Wanganui tonight? GRNZ will cover the cost to get the fracture repaired. But as the Big Time & Homebush kennels are widely known for not rehoming their dogs after they've been retired, what will be gained with the outlay of thousands of dollars? Is it just window dressing & to give the protestors one less name for their sign at the next SAFE or GPL demonstration in some cases? What about a pup or a race dog that breaks a leg at the kennels paddock or bullring while training at home? Are GRNZ forking out for those bills as well? I do not know the answer to that question, but I know where my bet would be placed. The current measures have been put into place to severely limit the numbers of race dogs put down at the track on a raceday. That's where euthanasia's are openly recorded & viewable to the general public.
-
Zero is unachievable. What would be better is for GRNZ being honest with how many dogs are put down. The numbers in the GRNZ Independent Review are fudged. The only reason the numbers appear to be coming down is they way deaths are recorded. GRNZ began a new policy to not put down dogs at the track unless absolutely necessary (that way they can hide the true figures as they weren't "put down at the track". Here's an exercise for you @Chief Stipe, go HERE and type "bigtime" in the search box, then click search. Any dog that comes up that does not have a "trainer name" listed beside it has been retired. If "bigtime" doesn't raise an eyebrow try "big time" (the same kennels new "prefix"). Then maybe try "homebush" after those two... Count how many dogs fit in to the retired category & then research the total numbers of greyhounds that have been rehomed by all of the rehoming agency's combined since their inceptions. "Bigtime & Homebush" are just two of the domestic breeders & not the only naming prefix's used by them. Also, Bigtime & Homebush dog were extremely rarely seen among the dogs names on the rehoming sites, when they used to list the racing name on them... Any wonder why they stopped providing the racing names on them?

I don't go on about things that did happen, I go about what did not happen after what was actually done. GRNZ rules should be enforced the way they are written and equally among all participants (IE meth, 24 month, 14 month, 4 month originally). They sure will. I'm not a follower of either of the horse code but as an outsider looking in whip rules need sorting. A fine from the judiciary is meant to be a deterrent to future same/similar rule infractions. How's the current system going on that front? https://racingintegrityboard.org.nz/search-decisions/ 31 infractions since the RIB took over (5 weeks) - Somethings wrong...
-
GRNZ had no chance. The RIU did have as a case before the JCA only had to prove it was more likely than not. Also the RIU could prosecute for dead baiting, equally against the rules. Imagine whatever you'd like about me.

You can argue this with the reporter, I merely posted a link to the story.

All spot on. Excellent post. Just think back to the pictures of the poodle & the hare & what came of them in the end. That sums up the same story....

Seems Aaron & Safe have been busy. I'm told that Chloe & Co are presenting the now closed petition to Parliament today with more than 37k signatures on it. https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/petitions/document/PET_101334/petition-of-aaron-cross-for-the-greyhound-protection-league Interesting that it coincides with the time the Ministerial Review is due to be submitted to parliament.
