do the researchers wear blinkers, the horse, or both?

The wife is going for Beacon in the last at Flemington. She who picks in mysterious ways, her betting to perform.

What a game gelding he is. Looked vulnerable halfway down the straight, they came at him and he fought to the line, never gave an inch. Pure guts and brilliant ride

After all that analysis, his last sentence says it all "Weight carrying ability is based on their size and their maximum oxygen consumption level." Another words, you can't just factor in a figure but need to assess each horse on what they have previously done with weight over distance/track conditions etc. A horse wins a race, not a treadmill.
-
So a horse finishing 5th 3 lengths behind the winner has the same average speed as a horse finishing 5th 10 lengths behind the winner. Righto, I will factor that into my analysis.

It has been written that 3yos do not win the Melbourne Cup and that has been the case with Australian/NZ 3yos. After all, if they were born in early August, they would be only 3 years and 3 months old. On the other hand, the winner Cross Counter was born on 05 April 2015. That means he is 3 years and 7 months old. That additional 4 months of development, aligned with the staying power of northern hemisphere horses must play a part in the trend of 3yos now winning the Melbourne Cup. Rekindling, last years winner was born on 23 Mar. 2014, making him a similar age to Cross Counter. Media show both Rekindling and Cross Counter as 4yos (based upon 1st Aug). This was taken from a a website about Melbourne Cup facts. "The Melbourne Cup is open to all horses aged 3 years plus, but is is generally won by 4 and 5 year olds. The last three year old to win the Melbourne Cup was Skipton in 1941." Not true. Leave out visiting 3yos at your peril.

Melbourne Cup tips, picks and longest tails ...

One for the black book. Race 8 Listed Furphy Plate over 1800m. Waller's Black On Gold resuming. 9th on turn, huge run along inside, beaten 2.1 lengths 4th. -
Women/girls have always been a target in the industry. Another friend was a jockey when women were treated with distain by the industry. Was deliberately pushed over the running rail in a race and injured herself badly. She never rode again.

Unreal. Back 5 in the Cup, get a third. Wife once again picks by the horses name in each race. Picks up 1st race @$7.00, misses next then proceeds to get every race for a place afterwards. Unfortunately they were win bets including Moonlover beaten a head at $19. She had Marmelo each way and her biggest bet A Prince of Arran at $5.00 each way. Got back almost all the bets so good but frustrating afternoon. She picked Prince of Penzance when it won the Cup 3 years ago because a woman was riding it. I give up. Taking up dxarts. -
No, about 40 years ago.

The power issues involved with employers and their young female jockeys has been going on forever. A friend of mine, when I was in my late teens had a sister who was an apprentice in a high profile stable. The trainer was sleeping with her. She was a teenager, he would have been at least 20 years older.

Sitting in the armchair, on my second large bourbon on the rocks, watching Melbourne Cup day races. Backed 5 in the big one, managed to get $7.50 for Yucatan so he is my insurance bet. The other 4 are Best Solution, Avilius, The Cliffsofmaher and A Prince of Arran. Good luck -
This part says it all. Minimising the assault as well as his part in it. "Breslin said he had owned the Christchurch incident immediately. "It was thoroughly investigated by the police, police decided it was not charge-worthy. I went through an investigation process with the racing industry for a long period of time, and the outcome was a severe penalty. I believe that process is done and dealt with," he said. During the incident, he'd been suffering from undiagnosed depression and had been self-medicating with alcohol, he said. He had since stopped drinking and undergone a year's worth of counselling. "I've acknowledged it, and I've acknowledged my weaknesses and flaws as a person because I did that. "I know it's not right [what happened] and I'm not proud of it, but I didn't force myself on her or anything like that, I've never done that to any woman. "I put up my hand and said what I did at the very start. I said I had my hand on a girl's leg, on her bottom. There's very clear CCTV footage of it. It was a dumbarse thing, the lights were on, it wasn't in a dark corner. I've told myself a million times 'Why did you do it?' I didn't even know the girl," Breslin said. He had apologised to her and offered to meet, but she had declined."

Melbourne Cup tips, picks and longest tails ...

"The forecaster advised punters heading to Flemington tomorrow to prepare for a wet day, with up to 30mm of rain expected for Melbourne over the next 48 hours. But the wild weather should clear for the main event. “The risk of a thunderstorm should cease by race time,” Mr Carlyon said. “The heaviest rain for Cup Day is looking like it will come through the morning.” Melbourne is forecast to reach 20C tomorrow and 16C on Wednesday. It will be 18C and partly cloudy on Oaks Day." https://www.news.com.au/.../8868a21f9f3f303e3c57e2b5d1a05334 -

Early picks: There are 5 in it for me, Yucatan is a great chance but is too short in the odds. Best Solution, Avilius, The Cliffsofmoher and A Prince Of Arran are the others. On a good track I like Best Solution and Avilius. However, rain is expected and a soft track sees Avilius and The Cliffsofmoher on top. -
Am always happy to see him on a horse I have bet. If the horse is good enough, he gets them up. Dedicated rider and deserves every success.
