    Tracks may close

Yes, It seems I did read that wrong ? Thought it was for the first week A redistribution of stakes is a start. I would suspect the TAB would have a surplus of money put away for stakes per year. It'd be bad and dangerous financially if they did not already have money to cover the stakes being promised over the season. Also, even though punting would be down, so would their everyday costs. I'm not saying they wouldn't have been hit hard but Id doubt 4 weeks worth of no racing would send them broke. The biggest problem from their perspective would be trying to get punters back of course. With an economic crisis looming, this will be extremely difficult.

Re-reading their announcement, It seems like they are planning on cutting stakes to all races as well in a time where most trainers will be struggling (Probably why they are running only sprints the first week back as a c5 sprint is only equivalent to a c2 middle distance win) . If anything, more money should be pumped into the industry, even if they have to take the prize money of group one races to accomadate.

I believe there are restrictions in place to limit travel. They have done the same thing in Australia. I find it ridiculous that there will be no 500m+ races in the first week back. Surely most trainers would have the facilities to maintain there dogs fitness. Seems unfair

I would not be surprised. It is very apparent to me in my interactions outside of the industry that many people do not have a very high opinion of racing in NZ and the vast majority of Kiwis would not care whether the industry closed tomorrow. If tracks started to close in NZ, I could see this as the end of the grass-root trainer for good as it will only make it more difficult than it already is for them to train greyhounds. I for one would want to hear what the boards thinking is behind closing another track in NZ when their are already not enough meetings to accommodate racing dogs now.
  5. I personally feel its very irresponsible on GRV and GRNSW part to continue racing. I see things have changed since yesterday though. I do not think they will hold out long with people coming into these centres from many different cities and towns. All it takes is for one participant to have had contact with someone who has it for it to spread throughout the industry
  6. I wouldn't think he'd be smiling with 4 weeks without income. I know how much money we used to have to make a week with 40 dogs. He has 3 or 400. Id imagine his overheads would be extremely high and not having income for 4 weeks would put a lot of strain on anyone. The entire industry would be struggling Id gather without 4 weeks income and I doubt most within the industry would qualify for the governments subsidy package and even those that do, Id be surprised if its enough to cover even basic operational costs for the dogs let alone themselves and their families. Id like to think trainers will come together, put their internal squabbles aside and help each other out over the coming month (Which could very easily be longer)
  7. With all the new travelling restrictions being put in place and now all non-essential travel and meeting being put on hold, how will this effect the industry? I see ferrys between the north and south are closed to passengers now and similar things are happening in Aus with borders being shut. Surely its only a matter of time
  8. Now that it is 100 people. How will this effect the racing industry?
  9. This is why so many people are suspect of the governing body within the industry. Regardless of who it is, they should not be wavering their own rules like this for anyone. What's the point of having rules to protect integrity if grnz decide who can and who can't break these rules? There is not an ounce of integrity in that
  10. Human safety should be the #1 priority. This is a good call made in that regard. It's not like the tracks are full of people anyway. Most people that punt on the dogs wouldn't go to the track. Dont get me wrong though. It will be a tough year for everyone across the board
  11. Yes. I know of 3 big companies based in NZ that all spent last week working from home, testing their capacity to be able to function without going into offices at a corporate and where possible, operational level. All 3 of these companies employ 500+ people around the country with 2 having well over a 1000. We have also been directed by government agencies to limit our interactions with people as much as possible and as a result, our lead in health and safety has directed us to work from home. I also know grv and nsw have both taken considerable steps to limit people entering race courses in Australia and to ensure staff and trainers safety as much as they possible are able to. Seems silly to me that from what I've heard, no clubs in NZ have looked to even minimise peoples chances of getting sick with available alcohol based hand sanitizers and tried to limit human interaction between the public, trainers and staff as much as possible. Even more silly that grnz have not acted upon any of the advice or reports we've received thus far (yet they have stopped imports from Australia because of greyhound 'coronavirus' which from what I've heard, is nothing more than a normal bug)

    Swab procedures

Good one! Last time i handled at wanganui, the security gaurd forgot to tell me my dog was a swab and no swab steward turned up to ensure the dog was swabbed
  17. I can only recall one dog ever that I've seen come back never successfully recover from a broken hock. 99% of dogs can be saved though. Its been a very rare occurrence that I've seen where there was no chance of saving a dog. Id disagree with anyone who says dogs need to be put down because of injuries until the injury has been under an x-ray and properly examined.
  18. Seems to me that GRNZ does not want to act on this information. They took my license off me for absolutely no reason. In the report written by GRNZ that was provided to me, it was due to the charges that I may or may not have received at a future date (and were thrown out by the JCA) which in their eyes, made me an inappropriate person to be in the racing industry. GRNZ saying they cannot act is complete BS and sickening when they have written the new rules in such a way that they have the power to do whatever they want to a licensed person whenever they want, with or without proof.

    GOTY

This year's GOTY is a joke. Ring the bell won one group one (which was incredible, but I still do not think that makes him deserving of GOTY last season), I don't even think wheelchair norm participated in a group race. I would have thought Allen ablett and Dirk bale deserved to be in ahead of them. Making 100k plus and raced lightly. Even nature's gent deserved to be in ahead of them. One of the more average line ups for GOTY I have see. Paddy bagged it the day they were announced
  20. They did the same thing in NSW without challenge
  21. Honestly, in my opinion, the path forward for NZ greyhounds is simple; either the number of dogs rehomed in NZ is increased or the number of dogs bred and imported are cut down significantly, or there will be a point reached when today's society has had enough of the inhumane practices in greyhounds and the industry is shut down for good. There is no small or big trainers when trying to deal with the important issue of "wastage". Every trainer at one point has had to put a dog down, it's everyone's responsibility to try and lower these numbers. There is a number of ways this could be done. However, the current people in charge of this industry seem intent on rehoming more dogs which is clearly not working. If I were making policies in this respect. I'd begin by limiting how many dogs can be bred per person, limit the amount of dogs each person can race per season, limit the amount of dogs that can be trained and bred on every registered property, further limit the amount of dogs imported into the country, and cut race numbers. Than I would introduce a fund where say 50-100 dollars of every race goes into a fund so when a dog is seriously injured, it can be saved without the financial hassle on the trainers and owners. The only way to control this issue is by cutting dog numbers and if no one is willing to do this, than the only other option is to put limits on the amount of dogs raced and make breeding look less attractive. I also understand there would be alot of backlash if these policies were put in place. However, people are appointed leaders to make these tough decisions. Playing the blame game will not make any difference, that is one thing I am 100% sure of

This was discussed in the hearing, it came down to the fact that if i re-applied for a license, it would be on my record forever. Probably looks rather embarrassing now as this incident was one of the reasons my license wasn't granted.

because he left. Why would we bother. His superiors were contacted and have promised that it would not happen again. Also, I was not there that day so how did he speak with me? You need to read the original post. Anywho, this will be my last post on the subject.

licenses renew 1st of August, no ones license was renewed and the property was de-registered as a result of this as no one lived on site that was licensed

2nd of august, when he entered the property to give me my 'warning' and refused to leave because he was apparently allowed to enter the kennel block even though the rules say they only have the rights to enter a property where licensed people reside. He would not leave after being asked to leave several times. If he had entered the kennel block. I would consider that trespassing. And just so we are clear, let me highlight the powers of an RIU Investigator once more:
