  1. The biggest problem is they keep the inner circle of presenters so small it all becomes stale , has been like this for years . And when the Saturday presenters turn up on Sunday their post analysis tends to be as poor as their pre race . It just feel like iv'e been watching the same B grade movie on auto rerun . Some fresh ideas needed badly , can't see it happening .
  2. And to top it all off , they seem to have canned thoroubred weekly , or is it still on summer hiatus , perhaps some one knows .
  3. Nothing to do with green eyes . Generally those of lesser egos tend to notice when those with larger egos get a little bit starry eyed about themselves . The Lyndsey's do it with class . A small lesson i got taught a long time ago , " Never promote yourself , promote what your doing ".
  4. I'm reading this whilst eating my cereal and gagging repeatedly , seriously narcissistic . Perhaps a better option would have been " Dave and Karyn Classless " .
  5. Probably with the royalty at the millions meeting .
  6. The whole calendar needs to be looked at and by persons without vested interests other than what is best for whole industry , not just how it best operates for what is going on north of Taupo . Another of the great days in the CD which has been ruined is the old "Bayer day" . I'm sure people know of others .But then again if you sit on your hands and do nought this is the result . Very much becoming a divided industry .
  7. Haha , yea i've heard the same re NZTR . I talked to a number of studmasters before season as was looking at breeding a mare and was amazed at the fact nearly all thought the Messara report had to be implimented for there to be any future for racing in NZ . I thought some people are completely out of touch with the reality , and i say that knowing it could be me . 5 years down the track i could be saying jeez what did i know . In the end those discussions helped me make up my mind that it was definitly time to pull pin , mare now up northland as show horse .
  8. My issue is bashing one bunch of reprehensibles as worse than the other bunch of reprehensibles is pointless . I agree this industry hasn't helped it self , previous and present industy sector participants that have had the position and some say or power to help improve and fight for the industry have continualy self served , to this day i have absolutly no idea what the point of the trainers assn is , one of the most toothless organisations i have ever seen . As much as the politicians have said "get your house in order" it is hard when they were the one's appointing the the board , i'm sure if the industry had some say in the make up in the board it would had a substantially different look . RITA is no different , i have yet to talk to anyone who says they have full (part) confidence that anything is really going to change because of a name change .
  9. I agree with all of your sentiments , the only bit i don't get from a racing point of is the Labour bashing , i say this as simply because the whole of parliament is a bunch of loser politicians and whilst i don't disagree with your sentiments your having a joke if you think there is 1,2,25 politicians or a whole party that gives a flying feck about the past , present or future of NZ racing . You can say the present coalition is this or that , but if you or anybody else thinks that National or any grubby makeup of politicians in the future are going to go to bat for this ailing industry then your sadly deluded . National's history in the past 30 years in regards racing is beyond poor . At least this lot are trying something , i don't agree what their doing but to think the other bunch of loser politicians are any better is plain wrong .
  10. Your asking a lot for them to get more than one day a week right , i only get friday's Dom and that will only last till i think their dropping the ball AGAIN .
  11. don't set your expectations too high , not that you'll be disappointed just we all know they have no show of meeting them .
  12. We're on the up , yeha !
  13. One way of reducing the number of northern hemisphere horses coming down for the cups .
  14. And you can add the champagne turf of Trentham to Auckland , Trentham hasn't raced there for over 3 months and still going to be a bog on Saturday so it will be all cut up for the rest of the spring and early summer . When the PREMIER clubs of NZ can't get it right what hope for the rest .
  15. Well well , i have bought a dominion the last 2 weeks and they have been as underwhelming as ever , so i was in 2 minds whether to bother this morning but threw caution to the wind and low and behold ! an 8 page pullout with 2 pages of editorial , with both Caufield and Randwick covered as well as extra meetings . So do i get my hopes up that this is the start of an ongoing new era for NZ racing or do i continue to keep my expectations low so as not to get too damaged when the status quo returns . Congrats anyway for todays edition , a template for the future .
  16. If they want any hope of real increase in participation rates and increased turnover from horse racing free to air has to become a must , if i was making any decisions that would be one of my first . Terrible decision to lose it in the first place . Out of sight out of mind . I'm no big rugby fan but this present world cup is almost invisible .
  17. Give it long enough and things are bad enough they will saying anybody wanting to participate has to sign over their assets . I'm sure it wont ever get that bad . Will it ??
  18. Iv'e being saying this for years , would have thought this was step 1 when your business is struggling . I'm no accounting whiz so maybe someone such as Reefton could answer this , could NZRB/NZTR be considered to be trading insolvant when they are spending money they don't have ? . Be interested to hear a professional opinion .
  19. That's interesting , never knew they had them in Aussie . My point was more about how much interest there was in them . Apparently they also have form guides for the races . I think i'll stick with the real one's . Some might say we do have a cartoon section in the racing industry already and have had for quite a few years , i'll leave it for people to decide for themselves which part of racing they think that might be .
  20. The starting point may have been higher to start with and if you chose to not lift the carpet and see what was happening under those big events then things are going to be misleadingly rosy . As i said tho those stakes , and it was a daily occurance , were in a lot of cases less than a midweeker gets here . On their bigger days a lot of the supporting races weren't huge stakes . The bookie shops i went into were usually very light on customers . Talking to the people behind the counters they said they did a large turnover on the " cartoon races " , which i found scary .
  21. They will wake up one day , when the young ones aren't turning up enough or betting enough and all the oldies they pissed off to the point of dropping their interest are long gone , they will be wishing they had put longer term stratigies in place then . I can tell you it's no better in UK . Just back from 6 weeks in Scotland and a short time in England . Went to Ayr races and a jumping meeting at Perth . Talked to the boss at Ayr and some bookies at both meetings , all said racing is on it's knees . Huge crowds both days , Ayr was their ladies evening and Perth having their biggest race of the year . Massive amount of young people , after 3/4 races mostly pissed , most races barely 1/2 the crowd was watching a race . Never seen so much fake tan and war paint on woman's faces in my life and skirts that for the most showed what they had for breakfast . Nothing scarier than a bunch of young pissed woman swearing the air blue all clutching jugs , yes jugs , of pimms between their bosoms and barging their way around the race course . Anyway the guys i talked to all said that days like those numbers wise were few and far between , the average day you could shoot guns and hit no one . Noticed that there was a lot of meetings on a daily basis where the winners were getting around 2.5k to 2.75k , and training fees were on the whole a lot higher than here . The one thing tho that they are getting right IMO is they are paying back to 9th or 10th , a stategy i firmly has to be implimented here sooner than later . But they all said the same , racing was on it's way out unless like us something major was done .
  22. The biggest issue for me is the people appointing the JA's of this world are as lacking in the knowledge and vision for NZ racing as the people they appoint . So who is person appointing the board , that is the person that truely has to have understanding of what is required and a real care for the industry and people that are at the coal face . They don't have to have a passion just really care , when people care they tend to achieve , hence the situation we are in . I am like you , my passion has albut gone , have no more horses , first time in over 30 years , my grass is sold for hay or baleage , breaks my heart .
  23. I should add to the above that i now plenty of people that could help fix this industry for the same reasons i could . There are people on this site that have shown the same also . It's not rocket science . For the bits that are you hire a rocket scientist . In this instance we hired a postman to run NZ racing , next time hire a racing person and your half way to sorting out the shite fest that has been created . It's not rocket science .
  24. They make every thing big , heavy and layered so they can feel better about themselves and therefore makes them feel that it justifies their position and salary as being neccesary. They geniunley don't care where this industry will be in 5/10/20 years so long as their pockets are lined . Does anybody think that JA will ever look back on his years in racing with any shred of regret , he will have none , there won't even the slightest tinge of embaressment . I would love to be part of the job of " trying to fix it ", because i have a passion for racing and the horses , I would get a lot right just because of that passion .
  25. I've been saying it for years , the first thing any ( smart ) struggling business does when there is a down turn is look at it's overheads and retrenches where neccesary . Through all the bullshit and spiel that has come out of NZTR/NZRB never once have they said they were going to look at themselves and tighten the belt . F#%k me John Allan thinks he was a success because he stopped the costs from going any higher . I suppose that could be considered a success if you weren't aiming too high . These guys couldn't run a MR Freeze van .
