Never happen, because there are many doing very well out of racing, trading bloodstock, racing the good ones in Aus. Just look at how the piper has been paid, a synthetic racing track in Cambridge(how odd), to further facilitate the above. How could a synthetic track in Cambridge help racing other than this

I see they have put up a version, just of the Bernard Saundry interview

The boards will be running hot(please read copy and pasting will be in overdrive), on liquorice all sort cafe this week. Jacinda is in US town, doing all the news outlets that matter, and she was invited, didn't have to pay to get on. Like they say, when she looks good, NZ looks good, and that must be good for NZ. Wouldn't NZ racing kill for such coverage

They do tend to run with the hares and hunt with the hounds, some of these people who were meant to lead. Bernard and NZTR are only small fry as far as costs go, compared with the RB. Remember in Peters speech, when commenting on the RB, "I know a dead horse when I see one" Looks like they are setting up a new set of hopefully sleek new posts on a well drained new field, and leaving the old players behind. Just a polite way of saying DCM

No brainer isn't it I wonder if they'll twig

Would you be prepared to put up a precis then, just on BOAY, about your main concerns about the report and why. Just summaries really, no urgency, and we'll keep it to one side and use it as a reference back to what actually happens. I note the Geelong synthetic, which is not going to be persevered with, was put in 2007, and would have had to be replaced at the end of 2018 due to wear and tear, that's 11 years And yet NZ is going down the route of synthetics?

Well spotted Mustelid S RUSOF (MELODY BELLE) - Reprimanded after becoming unbalanced and dropping his right rein when about to attempt a celebratory gesture prior to the finish. $300 fine avoided?

You can't be too tough on some of the people they interview, that's just their style, although I find Lisa Latta grates. But the professional presenters, really should be upping their game. I notice someone like Bevan Sweeney has the same sayings that he uses all the time, like, if there is a plunge horse, that they are falling out of trees to get on. There must be many other ways to say that, other than the same saying all the time. I find the Aussie presenters, far richer in their use of the language

Geelong synthetic track to close as Ballarat joins Pakenham as second venue GEELONG, the course which pioneered all weather racing in this state, will cease racing on its synthetic track after September this year. MICHAEL MANLEY Herald SunFEBRUARY 22, 20183:51PM Black Caviar's foal Oscietra wins Race 3 number 11 @2pm at Geelong racing in the Hanlon Industries Maiden Plate 1000m on the synthetic track. Picture: Alan BarberSource:News Corp Australia GEELONG, the course which pioneered all weather racing in this state, will cease racing on its synthetic track after September this year. Racing Victoria announced on Thursday that the two tracks which would hold synthetic racing from 2019 would be Pakenham and Ballarat, which would replace Geelong. RV’s Jamie McGuiness said they had conducted a 12-month review into whether Geelong, Ballarat and Kilmore would get approval as the second course. “Ballarat was chosen due its central location, its proximity to a larger percentage of the state’s racehorse population and its strong local training numbers,” McGuiness said. He added that the Ballarat track shape and size was also an advantage over the incumbent track at Geelong. He said the Geelong synthetic track needed to be replaced at the end of this year due to wear and tear. Ballarat Turf Club chief executive Lachlan McKenzie said Ballarat’s selection was a watershed moment for the club. Geelong’s synthetic track will close permanently to competitive racing in early spring.Source:Supplied He said they would build a synthetic track on its 1950m inner track and planned to start holding meetings there in May or June next year. He said they would also pour resources into fixing the camber problems on the outer grass track before they started building the new track. Geelong was the first track in Victoria to conduct an all weather meeting in 2007 on the Thoroughtrack which was later replaced by the synthetic track. Black Caviar's foal Oscietra wins her first race on the Geelong synthetic track. Picture: Alan BarberSource:News Corp Australia Geelong Racing Club chief executive Daniel Salter said it was a disappointing result but he was hoping that they will be able to hold four to six meetings a year on a new inner grass track, which would replace the synthetic track. Troy Corstens, who has just opened stables at Geelong with his father Leon, said he was disappointed the Geelong synthetic track would shutdown. He said they were committed to the track and didn’t move there because of the synthetic track. Long-time local trainer Jamie Edwards said he was pleased the track would be ripped up. “It has devalued the Geelong brand with so many meetings on what wasn’t a good track,” Edwards said. “Hopefully Geelong can now have 26 or 27 meetings on the grass track as it used to and get back to establishing itself as a premium country racetrack which it was 20 years ago when I moved here.” Originally published as Geelong synthetic track to close

I note that they have uploaded videos of each subject on Weigh In this week. I presume this is to censor the thinly veiled threat in the comment from the Avondale CEO. It won't go away fellas just because you hide it. Much the same as the weekly and YTD wagering data

I think we should put in a shortish response, on issues that appear not to be thought out eg The report states"Requires reconstruction of course proper, a synthetic track", for Awapuni and Riccarton. This is ambiguous It then says further in the venue plan 20/21Race at 34 existing venues (Awapuni course proper still out but race on synthetic So it would appear the plan at Awapuni and Riccarton anyway, but not other courses like Hastings, New Plymouth, Auckland, is to put in 2 tracks at the above 2 venues From info disseminated by someone who should know. on the Strathayr thread, we are being told a properly constructed Strathayr track will handle extra wear, so why spend extra money on synthetic tracks, at Riccarton, Awapuni and Cambridge I would say a lot of the stuff in the report is non-negotiable, and all you can really do is agree in principle, so might as well say nothing Thoughts

A few more questions 1. The majority of race day abandonments in NZ have been down to 2 things - waterlogged tracks, through excessive rain either in the days leading up to or on race day - rain on the day on say a G3/D4 tracks, a horse slips, the meeting is called off due to safety concerns Please note we run a scale in NZ from Fast1 up to Heavy 11(Fast, Good, Dead, Soft, Heavy) What impact would Strathayr tracks have on this 2. For the Winter months(June, July, Aug), other than Ruakaka and Te Rapa, NZ races on heavy tracks, more often than not very heavy tracks. We get a situation where margins are double digit lengths, fields finish spread over 200m, and 800m out you know whether your horse will be in the finish. Not very inspiring for punters. What would be the situation on a Strathayr track Please note that in the 3 months June/July/Aug we get cumulative rainfall totals in the high 300mm for places like Tauranga, New Plymouth, Auckland, 3 notable bog tracks in heavy rainfall conditions Thanks again

Fair enough, was just trying to illustrate the folly of trying to re-invent the wheel, when there is a perfectly proven product available. Let's see where your last paragraph goes
