  1. Again to cite Messara, "these prizemoney increases can apply following the full implementation of the reforms". What do they do? Use the money, not to implement the reforms which he thought would generate the revenue to double stakes, but spend that money immediately on stakes, even taking some of the money in advance to do so more hastily.
  2. Exactly. To quote Messara directly "New Zealand does not have one track with a high-quality racing surface." All they have done, is closed many that had better surfaces than those that remain and spent nothing fixing the latter. That expenditure and work was supposed to be completed by now.
  3. Correction. The above should have read $190m and $220m
  4. Exactly my point! And then there would be another 250k to fix the tracks, and it might generate enough revenue to pay for the stakes.
  5. I agree too. If you read the Messara report, he recommended that along with the track closures over 6 years, that NZTR needed to spend $90 million on upgrading the remaining tracks during that time. That's probably $120 million now with increased costs. They got a slush of money from the Entain deal but there is still no sign of anything like the necessary investment, and that additional funding for the remainder of the guarantee period is now all committed to stakes.
  6. You definitely can't if they've moved the rail out in the way.
  7. And fwiw, Google agrees with me. A larger radius results in a smaller curve to straight radius angle, and vice versa
  8. Would they know? To me, if I ride a gallop on the rail, the curve to straight angle is greater, whereas if the markers are on the outside, the turn is tighter. Or is that my imagination? If true though, then moving the rail out will always make the corner more difficult to negotiate, so why would you do that if the turn and rail position was correctly designed in the first place?
  9. My geometry isn't flash. Does moving a rail out on a corner tighten the angle into the straight if it is moved out equidistant all the way round?
  10. Initial report said final report June, by which time they'll all be being raced on again. Doesn't seem like good timing to me. Meanwhile the HISA have reported that in the US fatality rates nationally have dropped to less than 1/1000 (down 27% year on year) for the first time ever, and that's mostly on dirt tracks. The track by track and surface breakdown is due out next month.
  11. Shows as having 5 in training.
  12. Well, at least they talked to Sam. Nothing reported from Colin yet! A step up from Guerin's effort if you can call it that. In to $10 on the TAB I see.
  13. Why? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the bill unless the dogs are de-registered?
  14. But there are probably none imminent or forecast for the next 3 years, and probably the opposite after that as far as I can see.
  15. "New Zealand racing has enjoyed enormous growth since Entain took over the TAB business" I wonder where Guerin thinks that has occurred? Yearling sale prices? Foal crops? Number of starters? Number of codes still racing? Competition for punters? Programming? Pattern race status? I wonder where you get whatever he is on?
  16. Are they running or being run?
  17. I'm no sectionals guru. For me the important one is from the gates to the line. The fastest of those usually wins. However, I'd have thought 23.86 was pretty quick for a first 400 there. The R75 1400 was 24.7 and the open 1200 24.09?
  18. I note that Guerin didn't bother to add any comments from the owner or trainer!
  19. I think that they are rumours might be the rumour here
  20. You don't think 1.21.7 on the bridle is a pretty good sectional for 1400 round Ascot Park??
  21. And yes, I'm big on whips as a training aid. Always carry one myself.
  22. Sounds like we'll find out on March 8th if it worked.
