Colin McLachlan had one or two shoe shops in ChCh for many many years and worked in them till a ripe old age I believe. He trained many winners over the years as mentioned and often drove them himself although couldnt really say that he was overly gifted in the cart. He is not to be confused with the other Colin McLaughlin who was a top trainer of open class horses in the mid 1970’s and dominated many races during that time. They were often bracketed and msny times 3 in the bracket. He had numerous open class horses namely Allakasam, Manawaru, Royal Ascot and one of the ugliest but gifted Manaroa! believe they were driven mostly by someone A Harrison and Felix Newfield, the heavy handed left hander!

Gamma, no one wants Cambridge to go belly up at all! What we need to see is far better decision making from HRNZ. TAB and the Auckland snd Cambridge clubs! Not going to mention names but Cambridge made a not so good decision to bring someone back from Australia, and that backfired on them!

The truth of the matter is that they would not be wagering the way they are with their own money! They have absolute no discipline whatsoever and try to convince us that they know what they are talking about, when none of them actually are that knowledgeable.

Lol, hardly! The thing is it is good that the TAB are trying to attract new punters to their business! They are clearly trying to attract the younger ones, but personally what It is showing is 3 men with betting here there and everywhere and showing that they dont know what they are doing, betting with any responsibility for other peoples money! Are they really wanting punters to be betting like this? Last night they thought it was marvellous that they were in PROFITLAND, they should be in PROFITLAND most weeks as they are allowed on by the TAB to any amount they want, unlike restricted other punters! Yes they made approx. $3k last night on top of the $17k pool they started with, which in effect is approx a 17% profit! Not convinced this format is a winner for racing, but more than happy to not be on the money!

Anyone know where we are with the Franklin sale currently? Do we know whether it looks like a goer bearing in mind it is costing them an absolute packet in interest monthly? Reality is that Auckland and Cambridge both now appear to be cot cases from what I am hearing, and their future is looking decidedly bleak on the face of it!

I think it is great that horses get to race throughout NZ! The problem is that after the Entain money dries up they will not be racing for the stakes that they currently are! HRNZ should not be blowing the money they currently are and have nothing to show for it! They need to wake up and not try and pretend they are the heroes in keeping racing going with the stakes they are paying! The truth if the matter us that racing is really not travelling well at all despite what Brad Steele tries to tell us!

I have had many good wins but have never run around a room like absolute gooses! If this is how the younger ones act after winning then god help us. Hypocritical that the NZ TAB continue to advertise to us to BET RESPONSIBLY and yet Trackside employees are allowed to bet totally irresponsibly????? Anyway time will tell if this is what the NZ punter wants.

Fair enough Mikey! If it works for the TAB/Entain and it attracts new punters then more than happy go not be on the money! Only watched it the last 2 Thursdays as was overseas for when it started but didnt miss much if this us what they now offer on a Thursday night. Personally think it is crap and would be very surprised if it continued into 2027 as punters get turned off and punters stop giving them money to blow. I would be surprised if the Friday night presenters were impressed by the Thursday nite Amateur clown night!

They are able to bet thousands on horses and dogs of other peoples money with very little knowledge and ability! They advertise to bet responsibly and yet these amateurs are doing quite theopposite? Last night they put over $4K on a dog at something like $2.60 and it won picked by Andy Cook! After it won they acted like absolute Dickheads running around the studio! Seriously the show is so cringey and not a great look for racing!!

Reality is that Trackside will get rid of them in the future! None of them show any ability to pick winners and hard to understand who is giving them $ to punt on a Thursday night! Questionable and repugnant that they are able to get any amount of bets on with the TAB and yet other punters are able to get very limited amounts on!! Just shows how unethical the NZ TAB has become! Long overdue that the TAB starts treating punters equally!

Spatchcock, why are you not reporting info that you will be aware of? You believe that Cambridge is doing Ok? So why is the CEO of HRNZ being Santa Claus by throwing an extra $40k into the stakes for the World Driving Championship being held at Cambridge? It is to pay horses down to last in the hope that it entices enough runners to compete on courses where trainers dont want their horses to compete at??

Would be far better if they had presenters on that actually knew what they were talking about!, None of them show any ability for wagering soundly! Get rid of them or is this chaos what the TAB/Entain want?

It just doesn’t get any better for Cambridge in regards to field sizes! 54 carded starters over. 8 races is terrible and what is the future for racing in Cambridge due to their perilous financial situation and that combined with Auckland, is the CEO of HRNZ still saying that things are positive?

Thursday nights I thought was mainly for harness and greyhounds to a lesser degree and they are finishing up! Very confused as to what it is all about, appears to be trying to attract anyone who wants to bet on anything and who diesnt give a damn about whether they make money or not! I appreciate it is now Betcha sponsoring the show which is still TAB Entain! Would be interesting to see how many existing Trackside Presenters actually thinks this CLOWN SHOW is a great look and going go attract and retain punters? Hopefully it doesn’t last very long as from my humble opinion it is just 3 supposedly grown up men behaving like they are drunk snd dont give a rats! Anyway maybe some people think that it is comic relief on a Thursday night?

They act like right amateur punters who just show absolutely no ability to be able to bet wisely! Why is anyone giving them $ to just chuck here or there and they are all over the show and wondering if they have been drinking, as they act like they have been! Have they ever made a profit since they have been going?

For Fixed odd Win bets only! Let the punters on to net $5k on other fixed options as well to improve turnover!

Watched a bit of this “ Out the Gate” for the first time! Are they serious? What an absolute bunch of plonkers!! Just pathetic show really can not understand Trackside putting this CRAP on!! Not funny and has to go surely? 3 fellahs that have no idea about harness racing whatsoever, who ever thought this was going to work is deluded!

Very pleased to be home to be honest Gamma lol We are very lucky to be living in Australasia as there is nowhere in Europe I would like to live. Might take a week to get back into the punting again lol

JJ no one is taking Tabforever on at all! It is a forum that discusses things and people respond to posters comments whether they like them or not! TABforever posted a comment that appeared to say that he was employed by the TAB? Now he has stated that he hasn’t been on any payroll for 20 years? He is very hard to follow and then he states that he only bets on the tote pools? Seriously if you do actually know who he is then so be it, however clearly not the brightest punter around .

You are indeed a very hard one to get a line on TAB! If you are betting solely on the tote, then It is very hard to accept that you know what you are talking about!

The reality of it is that the NZ TAB have people in charge that I consider are too conservative like accountants. They have been worrying about yield rather than turnover and if you turn over less but have a higher yield then you are probably be in trouble. This is a sure fire way of losing the existing punters and I have maintained this for so long. They now have to resurrect things as they must by now be aware that the cash splash from Entain will quickly stop and they will have very little to show for it Still away but has the CEO of HRNZ yet realised that they are struggling or is he still very positive?

Correct that I prefer to get value but You also have to do the homework as you well know! still overseas but coming to an end, and csn trll you that looking forward to my decent bed rather than the hard slabs they give you in Europe and call beds! Might be ok if you're 20 stone but not when you aren’t lol! Just had a squizz of the fields at Mot for the first time and geez they look very difficult and even. Looking forward to hearing what they have come up with to turn things positive for the future, without all the Entain cash splash? What they are currently doing with Entain money is only a band aid that will come off! Entain have got what they wanted and now it is up to racing to perform!
