  1. TAB, certainly dont want Auckland to fold for the sake of harness racing in NZ and its people that are involved up there! The reality is that it is only hanging in there due to the Entain money that it is receiving. I am just trying to hammer home that this operation they are currently operating under will not be possible once Entain pulls the plug on their funding! Personally believe that so much money has been squandered and not utilised the way it shouldve been to ensure that the industry could continue to for longer. Many Clubs are clearly struggling, Addington I would say is able to operate ok due to i come from the rent etc. from the commercial investment out the back, which will enable them to continue into the future. I think that too many have their heads in the sand and will realise soon enough that what Brodie and others have been stating has been correct all along unfortunately. Still maintain that Auckland racing is not a great product currently to attract punting due to field numbers and the racing itself, when compared to South Island racing.
  2. Gamma, the North island racing is only just holding in there due to the Entain money! Once that stops they will be racing for nothing like the heavily subsidised stakes currently! Then the house of cards in the North will crumble and that is not that far off unfortunately! Too many in the industry have their heads in the sand and when the time is up unfortunately racing is not going to be viable for most. Anyway Kaikoura tomorrow so should be good days there!
  3. Gamma, the only strength in harness racing in NZ is in the South Island nowadays! Auckland and Cambridge are both struggling to provide sufficient starters to run meetings that are worth betting into. Off course there are still some great horsemen in the North but next to no new participants coming thru, so things are dire. Yes they are draining the harness funds each snd every week and are only racing thru the money given by Entain and we all know that is finishing! The more competitive and enjoyable racing is in the South Island with far more owners, horses, trainers, punters etc. HRNZ are fighting a losing battle with North Island racing and that is to the detriment financially. So yes I maintain the state of harness racing in the North is weak and is there an answer to how to get it going again to be financially successful again? There are many trainers who are at an age that will give it away shortly and with very few new ones coming thru, how can it improve?
  4. TAB, you do write some fantasy stuff! how many of these big owners? The best stables? Best horsemen/women? You are in dreamland if you believe that! Harness racing in the North is so weak and a total drain on the funds, and it is going to be telling! There is very little interest nowadays, the only reason most go oncourse is for-the dining. I would highly doubt that many of their meetings get close to making money nowadays? Do you seriously believe that they can get out if the situation they are in?
  5. The hyprocracy is appalling! They advertise to “ Bet Responsibly”? And yet they allow these very poor punters to offload as much as they want and never have their bets restricted and are allowed to win tens of thousands of dollars!!! Yet other loyal punters are restricted to amounts of a few hundred on a good day!! You can see why the industry is in dire trouble when they are doing so much damage to racing! Flawed business plan is going to backfire big time in 2 years time, time punters were all treated equally.
  6. Exactly! It looks like the TAB are giving away $1k Bonus Cash to Out The Gate every week as they know they are hopeless punters! The reality is that what they are doing with this Thursday night “Out The Gate” is showing that mug punters just should not be punting! Seriously though, why are punters scanning the bar code and giving them money to blow?? If they stopped giving them money, then this embarrassing show would be terminated.
  7. Certainly wasnt any dancing tonight! Very sombre night and a lot of responsible betting NOT! Can not see TAB/Trackside continuing with this format into the New Year as it is not a great look for responsible gambling that they keep advertising! the pool was reduced this week snd you would think it would more than likely continue to do so as they are not good knowledgeable punter! If they continue to gamble the way they are then they are likely to not attract anyone new! Still wondering how all these Bonus Bets are being earnt?
  8. Can someone explain to me where all this BONUS CASH comes from that the OFF YOUR FACE lads keep getting? Every week they get several BONUS CASH, so how are they earning this?
  9. Sufficient starters in each of the 3 heats on Sunday for all the invited drivers to participate, which Is great . Is going to be interesting as it is a difficult track to drive on. The good thing is that there is 10 races on the Sunday which is far better than the normal 6 races which was not great.
  10. They will probably be ok as there are only 10 drivers and the ratings band for the races is pretty wide at 35 to 50 and racing for 15k! Will be pretty disappointing if they can not provide enough horses for all the invited drivers!
  11. Yeah all these big bet alerts while other punters arent allowed to have big bets!!
  12. Never heard of Holly Moralde Sands? Who does she work for? Bernie Hackett? Was a nearly a certainty beaten but she mustve thought the leader wasnt travelling that well?
  13. Unfortunate that another sale has fallen through but I think many of us knew this would happen. They are paying massive amounts of interest so of course Westpac wont be worried . They are totally up the creek and the only way out was if Entains money hadve been more wisely than blowing it the way They have been doing it! Really depressing for North island racing as there just is not enough people who give a damn to make it feasible financially! Wonder if Brad Steele is still going to come out again and say everything is positive?
  14. Na wasnt Brodie, couldnt have it on disclosed form Pure and simple change of stable is what made the difference. There are heaps of horses that would grow a leg in another stable
  15. So they let someone on to net $6k and yet others are allowed to net buggerall ? Does show clearly how the TAB treats punters not equally! The horse opened at $15 so it wasnt that bet that shortened it.
  16. These low class race meetings are the way to go rather than Friday nights, in my humble opinion. Thing is that the TAB are not letting punters on for much. It takes very little money for the Bookies to slash odds dramatically. One bet and they show the Fixed Odds fluctuations various times to make it look like there are many punters offloading, when that is not correct!
  17. Be alright if they would let the punters on early! Waste of time bringing odds out early for the mid week Addington meetings if they dont wont let you to wager!!
  18. Correct. They are gambling with other peoples money and not their own. At the end of the day if it is working for the TAB with new punters and increased turnover from what they wouldve got, then its ok!
  19. Nothing wrong with seeing owners celebrate after any win! we need to see more of owners celebrating after any win on Trackside.
  20. We need more and more owners for harness racing to survive in NZ. Canterbury are very lucky to have enthusiasts who give up plenty of time to run syndicates and try and entice new owners in go racing! Nigel Armstrong and Andrew Fitzgerald are doing a great job in in regards to this. Andrew gas a lot more horses being races under his Off n Racing banner , both harness and gallopers. He always explains what the buy in cost is and the monthly charges, and he doesnt have any trouble in selling out the shares in the horses. If you dont like the terms then dont buy into it, and clearly HRNZ has no issues in what he is doing! personally dont think we should be knocking enthusiasts who are genuinely trying to help harness racing. Stonewall also syndicate some of their horses with plenty of owners and their costs and charges are a lot more expensive and yet they havent been mentioned?
  21. SpatchCOCK, BOAY is to express opinions! You are entitled to disagree and say that Out The Gate is great entertainment but from what I have been reading you are the only one that thinks the way you do! Is it responsible betting as the TAB advertises? Also Spatchcock, do you consider it reasonable that the TAB accepts all bets from the OTG boys and yet other punters get restricted to minimal amounts??
  22. How many weeks has out the gate been going now? How many times have they been in Profit Land and how many Loser Land?
  23. They are betting responsibly arent they?? If this Out The Gate is trying to get new punters and young ones to be punting then this is just a very bad look for the TAB!! They have 3 presenters that are betting with gay abandon with other peoples money and none of them would be betting like this if it was their own money. To be betting on almost every race is not betting responsibly! Why are they allowed to wager any amount they want to and yet other punters are restricted to small amounts and blocked from taking some bets? If they want to run a show like this they need people on with knowledge and the ability to make money as what is currently being played is surely taking the piss? Makes you wonder why people are actually buying into the pool?
  24. Colin McLachlan had one or two shoe shops in ChCh for many many years and worked in them till a ripe old age I believe. He trained many winners over the years as mentioned and often drove them himself although couldnt really say that he was overly gifted in the cart. He is not to be confused with the other Colin McLaughlin who was a top trainer of open class horses in the mid 1970’s and dominated many races during that time. They were often bracketed and msny times 3 in the bracket. He had numerous open class horses namely Allakasam, Manawaru, Royal Ascot and one of the ugliest but gifted Manaroa! believe they were driven mostly by someone A Harrison and Felix Newfield, the heavy handed left hander!
  25. Gamma, no one wants Cambridge to go belly up at all! What we need to see is far better decision making from HRNZ. TAB and the Auckland snd Cambridge clubs! Not going to mention names but Cambridge made a not so good decision to bring someone back from Australia, and that backfired on them!
