Reality is that despite the Bs about increased turnover, they are haemorrhaging big time, from losing punters and also not attracting new enthusiasts into harness racing! Does anyone actually know anyone at all that have become new punters on harness racing in recent years! The industry is struggling hugely, and you are delusional if you think that it is in a happy place! Galah is correct when he says that the domination turns punters off! I thought when it was announced that Purdon/ Rasmussen was giving it away for awhile was very positive for the NZ industry! However that was just a load of crock, and we know that now! Normal transmission as they are still around at the stable and clearly doing the same old same old! If not, then we must all conclude that Hayden Cullen is every bit as good a trainer as Purdon/Rasmussen!! Reality is that nothing has changed at Rolleston except for the colours, which initially werent going to be changed! yes there will be some that say otherwise, but the industry is faltering! 5 starters in the Winter Cup for $25k? It must be Sports Betting that is making the profit for the NZ TAB! Hard to believe that it is possible for them to be covering costs as the take out wouldnt be anywhere near enough!! Lol, I was about to comment as well about the tote pools at both Addington and Auckland Mikey! I just can not fathom how they can continue to state that turnover is improving, and they are happy with the way things are going??!!! The big trot that has just been run at Auckland had a stake of $17,500!!! The tote turnover for win and place was less than half of the stake money at about $8k combined! Yes there is the other pools but they werent much either! So how on earth can the clubs be able to offer the stakes at the current levels when they are surely losing money on most if not all of the harness races being run?? You can not convince Brodie that there is more money being invested than what there used to be! Punters are being restricted if you didnt already know! Addington turnover is not as high as stake money either but Someone will come on and with their wisdom advise us all how the TAB can be making money on the current racing compared to stake money!

Unfortunately for the horse’s supporters, the driver is driving it upside down. Emma Frost needs to be put into the race and driven more aggressively as it is very tough! To be fair though, punters should be well aware that Andrew is not an aggressive driver! Not sure what the connection is, but you would think the owner will be looking to replace very shortly!!

What on earth is happening with harness when the Winter Cup for 25k only has 5 starters? You must be kidding if you think all is well with harness, when the mecca of harness can only get 5 horses to line up? The racing is not that exciting anyway with horses paying under $2 to win and just not worth the effort! Surely this must be a loss for racing and the tote pools are poor for premier meeting compared to previous years Punters are getting the stitch! Bring on Rangiora where at least you get more of an opportunity!

JJ, I am sure the turnover would not have been much , tote turnover is not much nowadays on most harness, but a Tuesday? Tote turnover has dropped substantially over recent years and will continue to, unless things are changed.

JJ, what are you on? Do you personally know anyone that is not restricted and makes serious money backing on Premier nights consistently? I say you dont or they would be restricted! Fields on Tuesday were far better punting fields than fields that have 3 or 4 Cullen/ Purdon/ Rasmussen stable horses! Different strokes as they say!

Gamma, there is no way in hell that punters in NZ will be able to make good money long term backing horses at Premier meetings! Firstly if you win, the TAB basically shut you down! Secondly the odds are too short for the opportunity and thirdly there are too many race winners or horses with good abilty competing! At the end of the day punters can wager on what they want if they are not restricted!!! What I do know is that the NZ TAB do not want you winning money from them and only want the losing punter! Be successful and they will chop you off at the knees, and make it mostly not worth the effort financially.

Galah, you are totally on the money! The fields on Friday night Premier meeting are just horrible fields for punting on! You only have to have a look at the opening odds, they are just ridiculously short and not worth any risk when you have several paying buggerall for a place! Serious punters will wager on looser class races and what ai can guarantee is that there is no successful winning punter in NZ that punts on Premier racing! Give me midweek Addington anytime over Premier Friday night for opportunity!!
