  1. So how do you know that there is less than 100 restricted punters in Nz?
  2. JJ, you clearly have contacts with the TAB who is giving you the info! Do you know how many of those less than 100 are gallops, harness and dog punters?
  3. Would say it is on all fixed odds bets! Limits are very low for many and not worth the effort! Yeah have been restricted in Oz including not allowed on at all!!
  4. It costs a helluva lot of money nowadays to have a horse in training! The surprising thing is the loyalty of many owners to continue to use the same trainer when their results are so poor! There are so many trainers with a UDR under .1000 and yet owners continue to pay training bills? Loyalty can be very costly!!!
  5. McLellan used to be a good trainer, going back a long time. Most of the time now he doesn’t seem interested in winning. Every one of his horses that comes up to Christchurch and trained by someone else performs far better than down south!
  6. Not the crowds that used to go there now!
  7. Restricting punters to pathetic amounts and the $1k AML BS has definitely quelled turnover!!! It needs to be changed Ranga!
  8. Dougie you are correct that the clubs are struggling to get punters oncourse nowadays, apart from Cup and Showday and Xmas meets! Reality is that policy adopted by the TAB is majorly to blame for the bigger punters who drive turnover not going! This affects both profits and atmosphere so others dont bother! Reverse restrictions and raise the AML limits and turnover and profits will increase! It aint rocket science but then there is not the intellect employed that can see this!
  9. Well aware that Brodie is not the only restricted punter in NZ! That is my point, the restrictions should be off and the TAB would turnover far more and profit would increase. Not everyone on restrictions would continue to win! Flawed business plan to have high yield on lower turnover as it has consequences just like the government meddling in stuff it has no expertise in!!
  10. How do you work that out Ranga? When you hear of bets that are taken by the TAB and then others are limited to netting as low as $15 FFS!!
  11. Tote pools nowadays on harness are too small to bet anything worthwhile Ranga! I only ask to be treated equally with all other punters, that is what kindness is all about!
  12. As Chief has asked, where are the figures for fixed odds?? Matt Peden’s noteworthy bets do not seem that noteworthy to mention! $50 bets are worth mentioning!!!! If the fixed odds betting is increasing and profit yield increasing how about the NZ TAB allowing all punters on, Andrew???? Have a word to the Bookies or whoever you are getting these figures from and as Michael Guerin suggested, be fair to all Punters! we know they wont, as they like to treat punters differently and unfairly!
  13. Karrots, you need to post stuff that is debatable and then they come out of the woodwork!
  14. How about bringing on TAB Bookmakers on course that actually allow you to wager what you want????? Would bring punters back on course and some atmosphere as unfortunately it is flat as a pancake nowadays! One other thing that is limiting turnover is the ridiculous $1k identify yourself rule that was brought in!! FFS no one in NZ is money laundering $1k punting on harness racing, it is all about TAB wanting total control of everything, nothing at all to do with Money Laundering!!!
  15. There was a lot of good stuff in all the interviews, and great to see something being done, even if it is just words at the moment! You can have all these ideas from participants, but they didnt seem to say anything about getting people back on course, without that they are pushing shite uphill!! Michael Guerin spoke a lot of sense in his interview with Greg! He said that the heavy restrictions on certain punters by the TAB basically is not in the best interests of harness! He said the Bookies decisions are crucial to the industry! He asked for the NZ TAB to have the SAME LEVEL OF FAIRNESS!!! Is this not what BRODIE has been wanking on for many years NZ TAB? The TAB business plan is seriously flawed and if they continue along the lines of driving punters away, there will not be the income for them to be able to pay decent money to the owners of the horses! TAB you do need to change NOW, take the bloody restrictions off the fixed odds or at least have them at a reasonable level not $200 or less!!!!! I do not believe they will because they have not got the expertise working there and they are only interested in keeping the yield up rather than profit!! Hopefully things will improve and harness racing will flourish but they need it to start in Wellington!!!
  16. Unhinged, more money than sense lol. Great that you are having success for you and other syndicate owners! You are an enthusiast and trying to bring newbies into the game even if it is as a small share in your syndicates! You can only do so much we need new initiatives and to entice people back oncourse or enthusiasm for the sport will wane!! I don’t bother as much for a couple of reasons which most are well aware of, but I am but one of many that have been driven away from being oncourse. The atmosphere that the track used to bring is long gone unfortunately!
  17. As the field sizes drop off we then have the issue of punters not bothering as there is not enough in it to bother having a punt, even if you can get reasonable money on! The tote pools now on most races are abysmal and I believe there could be a touch of boredom going on for many. there is no way in hell that all meetings are making a profit and this becomes a huge worry. Good to have a meeting at Oamaru on Sunday for a change.
  18. The handicapping system is not working because jt is uneconomic to race horses in NZ, and owners are getting the stitch and new ones are not coming thru!! Addington Friday night has 2 races for $15k each and have 6 and 7 starters?????? There is a huge disparity in the ratings of the horses as well, one is 62 to 100!!!!!!! The other has about 20 points different and they are both mobiles! Things are definitely at the crossroads for whether we have much of an industry in the medium term, but for it to continue things have to be changed! We need owners to be able to afford to race horses, we need PUNTERS to bet on races to give income for the owners to have a chance!
  19. I am well aware I am not the only restricted, I am in bat for all restricted punters! Whether others are smarter in your eyes is up to you JJ! Not worth the effort to make money nowadays when there is far easier ways to make money
  20. Yes I see it differently JJ! There is no way in hell that there is more money being wagered on harness racing in NZ! When Matt Peden quotes $100 is a noteworthy bet on Trackside things are not flash!
  21. Am I missing something in regards to Ozzies not betting into NZ harness racing?? I thought it was not possible to bet on NZ harness on your NZ account if you were in Of course there is a decline in betting on NZ harness as it makes sense to bet on fixed odds rather than the tote, and the Bookies do not want to take any reasonable sized bets unless you are a known losing punter!! What I know is that they are driving punters away 8n their droves and they are just not bothering to bet now. There are very few true punters that go oncourse nowadays and the reality is that harness racing is in dire straights if there is not new punters coming thru! This is the case and despite the BS re harness punting increasing being spun, it is in major distress and the TAB are not doing anything to improve things! Yes I am well aware I hark on about this continually, however it ks trying to get thru to the TAB that they really have a flawedBusiness Plan in place. Yes the yield on harness may well be up but the profit and turnover is going in the wrong direction. Any increase if there is any is due to Bonus Bets to losing punters!!!!
  22. Not sure what you mean by towing the line as far as commentsting goes in your case but yes you have to do what you are told in the media nowadays!! The Labour Government has put millions into the media it so that all employees have to do and say what the government wants and lick their butt! It is just pathetic how media presenters continue to push the Covid19 vaccine message continuously, even though they have absolutely no medical qualifications whatsoever!! This Covid BS is going to go for years even though it is no worse than the normal yearly flu. The vaccine is not the answer and in fact is more likely to make you crook, WATCH THIS SPACE! There was one death yesterday in Sydney a lady in her 90’s! No shit Sherlock, how surprising??
  23. Correct I do not like the tight class racing but we do need them so that owners that have horses that win a few do actually have an opportunity to race their horses. No point me breeding a few at all, I will leave it to enthusiasts that are into that still. I have bred a few over the years but it is a very unprofitable exercise unless you have a top of the line mare and not that much in it then anyway. There are far more profitable and easier ways to make money nowadays without any risk!
  24. There is other problems at the moment apart from the NZ TAB not wanting to take wagers from punters even though they put up fixed odds to wager on!! Originally thought that it was going to be good having more racing at Addington due to the fairness of the track! However, There is now the issue of field no.s dropping off and very few horses having odds that do not reflect the risk! Same horses racing each and every week and 5 horses paying under evens for a place is just an absolute waste of time. I am sure many are getting the stitch and not bothering especially on a Sunday arvo!!
