Globe, I didn’t realise that your real name was Globe? Not sad at all, asked a totally reasonable question didn’t I?

Chief, with respect we keep hearing from the AllStar fan club that every other trainer in NZ needs to lift their game to compete competitively with the AllStars! What many of us can not comprehend is what makes this stable many lengths better than everyone else??? Yes,they clearly do things differently to get the results that they do! Blair Orange who is the leading driver in the country and I would say pretty intelligent worked for AllStars for many years! Surely Blair would have picked up the training techniques of the AllStars and yet his training results with Ken Barron are good but certainly not spectacular?????

Ok. I have to come clean! My alter ego is Newmarket! The beauty of forums is that we can express opinions and not everyone will agree with them. I think that this nil government we have in power at the moment haven’t got a damn clue, but there are others that think that they have, even though they haven’t shown it! If everyone agreed with each other it would be pretty boring and there would be no forum!
-
Newmarket, not ridiculous at all, the truth! As I have said before if you are not in the stable ownership group, it is almost impossible to get a horse in the stable! So the theory of if you can’t best them, join them is rubbish!
-
Kakama, no one at all is,putting them down! Name one contributor that has put them down? What they are saying is that is is boring and not great for the industry. Everyone acknowledges their professionalism and unbelievable results, but you have to have your head in the sand if you think that it is great for harness racing!! People are not keeping their horses racing just because of Jewels day! Reality is that if this domination continues, which I beleive it will, more people will be lost to ownership without doubt. Is there a new generation of ownership coming through? NO!
-
Did many of the 2 FORUMS meet each other today????
-
Turny, you are right, Mile Racing is BORING! AllStars domination is also Boring! I appreciate that the AllStars owners put a lot of money into the industry but so do many other owners and they are getting crumbs, and they won’t continue to accept the crumbs.

Newmarket, there are some on the forums that do like the Jewels. However, the Jewels are very over rated and as a punting vehicle a total waste of time and effort and most of the people that ai know, totally agree and don’t bother having a go on Jewels day. Mile Racing is boring and if you have an average horse you are wasting your time going up from Canterbury. Yes I am sure there is a bit of a thrill having a horse line up but running down the track would then put things into reality. Is it in the best interests of harness racing for one stable to win over half of all the Jewel races, bearing in mind that they don’t start a horse in every Jewels race? NO NO NO NO! Jewels Day is a huge drain on the coffers of the harness industry, and yes we need feature days but we need the stake money being shared around different owners, or they will be GONE!!
-
Mile racing is so over rated. Havent been watching them live, but watched a few replays and you have no chance if you aren’t handy! Waste of time investing as you only have to look at the tote divs and you would say why bother! OK if you want to bet for the sheer hell of it, but to make serious money, forget about it! Bring on next year at Addington on a track that gives horse more chance and over a far better distance!! Seriously, Do punters really enjoy watching the same colours win just about every race they are in????? Dominance will kill the industry as the average owners say it is just too hard and will drop out!!!

Where on earth does Flagship say that Purdon is not a proper craftsman?????? Purdon tends to train mainly pacers but he does train a few trotters now that go good. Previously trainers who tended to specialise trainers had more of a show winning races with trotters, but now with AllStars buying up the best young trotters they are doomed as well, I say doomed!!!! Great to see the AllStars win 5 of the first 7 Races at the Jewels, it is great that they collect the biggest percentage of the stake money, it will make all the other owners want to retain their horses for next year rather than selling overseas for a good price won’t it?
-
CrossCodes, don’t beleive that Happy is bitter at all! It clearly has been blown out of proportion and a P R exercise to try and show that all is above board. Do we know what the drugs were that the employees were using or smoking?
-
Different training systems.
-
Top trainers no doubt, doing things differently to other trainers no doubt!!!
-
Personally tend to agree with you Hunter that there is more to it than passive smoking from young stable employees. Find it hard to believe that if it was hooch smoking, then it would contaminate horses blood readings, but who knows, it does seem pretty fishy!
-
It is very interesting indeed. If stable employs were tested for some sort of drugs and tested positive then possibly this drug taking is also been done around the stable as well, when the bosses are away? Maybe this is why the AllStars horses never go as well when the bosses are not in Christchurch? Perhaps the horses that race are fonged up?????
-
Very interesting news release today by HRNZ stating that they have been advised by AllStars Stable that 9 of their horses may have suffered some sort of contamination on the way up to Cambridge for this weeks jewels! Betting on these races have had the fixed odds betting suspended! The horses that have been named are being swabbed, so this is could be very interesting if there is contamination.

Hi Robert, you could well be right now that you say that! Probably got mixed up with Globe Bay! Jack Carmichael certainly was one of the best back then. It was surprising that he didn’t seem to continue to train much after retiring from driving, probably when he was about 65?
-
Yes they were Mumbles. Think Great Adios was before Allakasam and Manawatu and the third one that was bracketed with them was “the ugly duckling” Manaroa, trained by Alan Harrison I beleive and they were often driven by Felix Newfield, who certainly wouldn’t get away with what he did when it can to the whip, held in the left hand!
-
I wondered whether Jack Carmichael was still alive, as I hadn’t heard anything about him for a helluva long time. His nickname was “Hoagy” who I beleive was a famous singer a long time ago! Hoagy was an exceptional driver in his time which was when Maurice Holmes was the top driver. One of the best horses that he drove and may have trained was Jacquinot Bay! RIP Jack Carmichael you were a legend.

Basil, I haven’t checked your no.s as busy overseas at the moment, but I will take it that you are right. I wasn’t counting the AllStars as they were always going to be there in there hoards, but take them Out and there seems to be a lot of N.I. Horses in there which isn’t surprising. At the end of the day all things being equal on a good sized track most of them would not compete that well against many of the S.I. Horses that haven’t gone up, due to what I previously said. Anyway I know you will disagree!
-
Just had a very quick look through fields for next weeks Jewels day! The Thing that stands out like dogs bxxxx other than plenty of AllStars starters, is that there seems to be a heck of a lot of North Island based runners compared to previous years! What I did say a Few weeks ago was that a lot of South Island quAlified Horses wouldn’t be bothered going up to Cambridge for one race over 1609m, to just make up the numbers to run out of a place and stuff the horse. What I will do at some stage is count up the number, but I am sure Brodie is correct in that many that could’ve been there aren’t! I believe that owners and most trainers have woken up to the fact apart from the glory financially it isn’t worth it, and would be better having a saleable horse. What if it rains heavily next Saturday and the track is a bog, as it is JUne after all?????
-
Kakama, so you are saying that if you were innocent of a crime, that you would just cop it on the chin and take it that you were guilty?
-
Newmarket, I don’t consider that the Dunn’s are that stupid to give caffeine to any horse at Nelson just to win When as Happy says is easy to test for! However as it is so easy to show a positive for it, maybe just maybe it wasn’t given to the Dunn horses by the Dunn’s or employees?? Bearing in mind that as far as I am aware there is no 24 hour security keeping an eye on horses stables at Nelson!
