Green Mile farce

What a total joke that race was today, almost 2.04 for the mile, the trotters went almost 2 seconds faster.

Just shows how pathetic our so called ‘open class’ horses are without the Purdon runners, at least they actually make the races a contest and run at a decent clip.

Its just more a reflection on how negative the driving in many of the races are now days.

Watching the races today you would think it pretty obvious that you had to be handy and close to the rail.

Every winner has come from the lead or trail position, due to the fast lane closer to the fence  and lack of speed  in the races.  The only exception was a g s whitesocks, and that was only due to forgotten highway looking  gone from the start of the race.

Race 2 today was run at a dawdle, nothing moved except Blair Orange who put Paduka into the race. At the time I thought the other drivers at the back should be court-martialed for sitting back and doing nothing.

This was compared to the really interesting race the other night that Theodosia won. Those sorts of tactics would get people watching again but it is very rare to see it.

Sign of the times at the moment that races are dictated by speed rather than out and out driving tactics.

Boring.

Don’t give anyone ideas that it could well be more race fixing!

All the drivers might be involved, including the Stipes!

The brodster really has gone out on a limb. That limb is getting further off the ground.

Yeah forgotten highway cost me a good multi collect today.  Very boring racing today virtually all races were a dawdle up front then a sprint home, except forgotten highway couldn't jog a descent last 800.  Very strange for Methven usually more exciting racing there

I Disagree with you Cross Codes Geraldine Cup was led up by a purdon Runner and they went almost 4 seconds slower than the Trotters who were a race after them, not to mention the NZ cup lead up races and how much of a joke they were with them leading up.

Thought the same, forgotten highway should have had a lot more to give.

To add.

Small fields don't help when one is looking for fast times. You can get away with murder in front.

Hard to see how those two races, plus a lot of other feature races around this time of the year in 12 months are going to be run at all.

With Inters in Auckland, races like the Green Miles won't have any horses left to run in them.

Don't panic.

Raphoe will be at Methven as he is not a fan of going right-handed.

If one was looking to be positive, could it see more opportunity for horses just under the top flight getting a go and consequently not being sold on?

Maybe the clubs could widen the ratings bands to entice more in and have the attitude 'it is what it is'
