Unless most of the people at Ellerslie are in the Kiddies Castle with @TAB For Ever !! Don't worry about TABman , after his bounce about in the castle , he'll be up with the Jet-Set for a few wines in the members ok lol 😋. did he tip us anything? That building with the Half circle entrance . (you can see just above the jumping castles) Looks like a good spot for an apartment building complex ?? like at Alexandra Park . 😂🤣😁🏆
Doomed
They should let people park along the running rail for the top half of the straight as they do at some of the country tracks to make the place look a bit fuller.

Well according to @TAB For Ever there was 12,000 there on Boxing Day. I would have thought there would have been a similar amount today hence the comment. Some rooms weren't even open including some hospitality areas where tickets sold include food !

General Admission at $30 is a bit steep too if you want to take mum and the kids for a day out. Especially when the hotdogs are $8+ each!! When you have all that sunk cost in assets a General Admission fee of a gold coin donation per person would be better than no one attending.

From memory it's somewhere like 70% though I stand to be corrected. Important for clubs to encourage and facilitate though, as you suggest, since it gains them an extra 2.5% on turnover. Don't know but looking at attendance purely from a betting perspective is flawed in my opinion. Attendance on raceday is more about access to the sport. So a $30 entry fee is prohibitive if you want to have a look and take the family to something a bit different than the zoo for a couple of hours.

Looks to me there was far less for NYD than their other big days ,especially Karaka and the new Champions day. Even BD seemed to have less advertising , maybe the Stat holiday payrates etc a factor. However the Club seemed pleased with 700 walk up crowd......it often a talking point that somehow events with a charge fare better than 'free' events. Noticable yesterday that both the womens tennis and Auckland FC seemed to be well down on 'normal' spectators. The hotdogs seemed a tasty treat , the sauce was free , and the hot chips well worth $7 and free sauce. The caravan was very well staffed [ at least 4 x at all times ]and seemed very busy. Elsewhere a tasty pie was $6.Budget conscious folk/families could take their own food and many do and the wAter is free. Even us South Islanders with poverty mentality were happy ! And had a free high tide swim in city beach afterwards ! The facility looked good there were free Kids activities incl pony rides ,bouncy things and plenty of organised games and activities ....kids seemed to be having a ball. The form horses ,well weighted ,well drawn etc were dong well so a couple with kids could pay $60 take BYO and have a few bets and leave very happy after 6 hours. A safe city environment with security , free parking ,racebook , good toilets , free water , plenty of seating and grass for kids to run around...Perfect ! Re phone betting ,yes it up to 70% , oncourse location is considered OC and the club benefits thru commission.
SLB2.0 Posted yesterday at 01:02 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:02 AM We can't forget that the quality of thoroughbred isn't there to attract people to Ellerslie. Who would you turn up to see in the flesh yesterday? The Derby on Boxing Day used to be better than Christmas Day, but with it now being in March, not a lot of people care (or they simply have forgotten that racing exists) following the Xmas carnival. Does anyone know how our Derby winners have performed in the Australian Derby races since it was moved? That was the reason for the switch, right? I think running over 2400m in December and having a nice break before the autumn carnival in Sydney worked quite well, as opposed to running 2400m in March and backing it up a month later. As Scooby snacks says after every post on RC, JMHO.

Nothing other than a whole lot of sunk cost assets. Although they'd argue they have to pay for TAB terminal operators and security. You would think that Food and Alcohol would pay for themselves given the markup. Why not make New Years Day a Family Free Day.
Huey Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM It doesn't matter what you argue. They perform poorly on those days compared to most volunteer country clubs , which is absolutely useless no matter the excuses of once a year racing etc. They have all year to prepare for these days & resources beyond most clubs Dreams and still it looks moderate at best. Take the BGP crowd out of KM night & it looks pretty sick also.
