the galah Posted January 9, 2025 Author Posted January 9, 2025 (edited) On 8/01/2025 at 12:55 AM, TAB For Ever said: I Its an insult to read that those employed on Board etc are putting money into line their own personal pockets. Calls for them to read these pages...hahaha...I hope they don't. We call for our leaders to have skin in the game then accuse them of that...thats low !!!!! Actually Tabman,i've been thinking about what you said above. And i think your comment above is a bit of being designed to exaggerate and mislead, deliberately designed to silence ,and a bit of ignoring how you know things work. Lets take the issue of the breeders bonuses. people should ask themselves this. Who are HRNZ more likely to listen to? Who are they more likely to visit? who are they more likely to seek feedback from? who are they more likely to want to please/ Its the bigger breeders. why? Well tabman, its obvious. The bigger breeders are organised, have a history in business of achieving what they want and need to succeed, who have a history of lobbying and bringing pressure and persuasion to bear, who are more likely to be in leadership roles in breeders groups ,etc... Now i don't blame the bigger breeders for trying to ensure their interests are looked after, thats just the way it works...They are significant and deserve to be heard. But its unrealistic for you ,tabman,to suggest that their is a level playing field in influence between the bigger breeders and the smaller breeders. And who is it that are trying to make breeding commercially. And what is a very important factor in being a commercially viable breeder. ....having the progeny of their mares and stallions race as 2 year olds. I'm just stating the obvious. Its obvious who has the ear of HRNZ decision makers if you look at their focus. Edited January 9, 2025 by the galah Quote

Yet another example of only 4 horses being nominated. really, shouldn't there be some sort of accountability for everyone involved in such poor decision making. like i have said previously, you get more common sense and more accurate predictions on this forum, than ever comes out of hrnz. mikeynz Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Didn't Sapling stakes once be for all 2yos, not just colts and geldings. Quote
Brodie Posted May 26 Posted May 26 HRNZ Board needs to appoint a manager NOW that has financial nous! There is going to be major ramifications for all of harness racing if this is not done NOW! Since the CEO was given the DCM, I am sure there mustve been some changes happening, tightening the belt etc. The time is long overdue for HRNZ to take a serious look at the way they have been financially operating over the past decade but more-so since Entain started the cash splash. Look it is not going to be pretty with where the stakes being paid out need to be, however if it doesnt start now there isnt going to be much of a harness industry in NZ in 10 years let alone 5 years. So many dumb decisions made by both the HRNZ and also TAB if they wanted to keep NZ racing going! 1 Quote
the galah Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 (edited) common sense would have the programmers anticipating the chance of very small nominations, therefore allowing the possiblity of applying a provision in the programming, for the 2 year old fillies race to have included 2 year old colts and geldings, excluding any previous group race winner. And a pbd favoring the fillies. In effect that would have lead to a full field,a better betting product and only 1 lot of connections missing out on a run instead of 5. whether they apply common sense, well i guess when the field comes out we will see,but what happened with the small number nominated for the sapling stakes was forseeable. Whether they all start this year, time will tell. so really you can see 2 things. There has never been a demand numbers wise for either race and hrnz have been more than happy to programme and run small field 2 year old races for some time. this year it seems the first time hrnz showed any sense in canning a high stake race with such a small field. Hopefully the realistic decision made to can this years race is a sign that common sense thinking may finally be coming into play at hrnz. Edited May 26 by the galah Quote

Its obvious who has the ear of HRNZ decision makers if you look at their focus. If that's where the money is . Just try and do it. get the 2 year-olds going. NZ has just given up trying. No Sapling Stakes ? when you have 1200 foals annually to choose from ? Meanwhile, at the same time , small budget old Queensland , that ONLY has 400 registered foals bred annually , are running 4 full fields of 2 year-olds this coming Saturday night for Queensland bred 2 year olds . ( so 10% of the crop are starting on one night ) Four full fields . Also 4 full fields of 3 year olds too. Impressive beyond words. Now that's what I call Great Training effort.!!! bloody legends. just fantastic training effort all round. NZ just doesn't have trainers with any effort anymore ? . ( apart from Dunns and Telfers who were probably the ones that nominated for the Sapling ) at least someone has a go lol . I can't stop laughing at the inability of NZ to put a race on anymore. No wonder Dunns raced the horse they own 'Alta Orlando' in Aus for the majority of his career. ( so he could actually earn his near a million that he did ) they did get him home for a go at the slot race one time . So that was cool . even though of course BOAY wouldn't like that happening. John and Robert had a go anyway. But you guys don't want that race either . so funny😂 . I can't help but laugh as we enjoy the Interdominion , put up a few bucks, and NZ doesn't anymore . Even though it's spose to be a NZ v Aus contest , a bit like the rugby Bledisloe Cup . Might as well call off ALL your racing Galah old mate ? . You'll save some money then and Brodie might be happy with the budget. 😄😂🤣💰 no races = no money lost hahaha😋 Quote
Nowornever Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Sign of the times. Back in the day not so long ago they would get 40- 50 nominations for the race. But back then lots of farmers in the area had a license and a horse in the back paddock. Those days are long gone. It would be interesting to see how many trainers were on the HRNZ books 50 years ago vs today and also the number of horses per trainer back then compared to today. 1 Quote
mikeynz Posted May 26 Posted May 26 It's not often on a friday night at Addington you would see a 2600m non winners race have only 7 acceptors although small fields at headquarters are getting more regular too, maybe that suggest something. Quote
