Every single winner, up until this ride, drew the inside barrier. So what does he do? He gives up the lead and fence to the favourite who duly wins, like they typically do from in front at Tauranga. Surely, given the pattern of today, under no circumstances can he give up the rail and the lead, especially when the favourite didn't have to work all that hard for it. Tactically, he's just not all there. I've always thought he was over-rated. Yes, certainly has ability, but adulated, and spoilt, while still just a kid - probably the lack of quality seniors has a bit to do with that - and it hasn't done his attitude any good. He would still be in Aus if the goods were there. The imports are giving us a bit more choice thank goodness.
SLB2.0
He reminds me of Winona Costin. A natural light rider but lacks professionalism. She was dropped by Waterhouse pretty quickly, and she hasn't really recovered. I can't imagine Pinn lasts too long with Te Akau unless it's down south. Hopefully, though, that doesn't happen and he proves me wrong. As you said, he's still a kid.

And I don't see it improving any time soon. Of interest, isn't it great to see Jaylah Kennedy and Logan Bates going so well in Victoria?

Tick, interesting of course how both have both parents jockeys! But, both deciding to go over the ditch to learn their trade.

SDye and JCassidy were seen as forerunners to leave NZ permanently for NZ when quite young. More recently Jason Collett and Mickey Dee left as youngsters too , as apprentices ,. I think Jason was 18 only ! Back in the day , many of our best jockeys left for Aussie.....Bob Skelton , Midge Didham , Gary Willets , Brent Thompson , Nick Harnett , Michael Walker , James Mac, LCassidy , DBrowne , MEnright, BCompton, BYork , the Collett Clan , GChilds and plenty of others including jumps riders ! An excellent system, well managed and gets results. Was talking to Kylie recently, each step along the way has to be satisfactory or you go no further.

Looking at some of the jockeys and the piss poor riding… probably looks like India…
