Pauls Verdict???

Newmarket

Wow, how unlucky was this horse last night. Got carted back by The Doorman, which went terrible.

Mind you, part of result was unlucky, part huge driver error. Was 3 deep a lap out, horse galloped on outer, could have got off rails easily. So i suppose 25% unlucky with tiring runner, 75% driver stuff up.

Nothing in stewards report asking why driver didnt ease off rails? Not like he couldnt move his neck, his nickname is goose.

Rubbishing Robbie Close now too .......

Close is one of the better drivers around, however the drive on pauls verdict was  poor, and not up to his normal standard.  It happens. But I don't see anything wrong with newmarkets post, he's only referring to one drive.

We have our own perspectives on for drives that determine if it was a good or not so good drive.

I have two drivers I consider "spoiler" type drivers. Scott Phelan in the North and Jonny Cox in the South. They are both very talented drivers but get beaten disproportionately on well fancied runners and stuff up predicable finishes with pregnant goats more than most.

The Doorman deserved to start favourite or close to it and did but the bigger bets for the horse never arrived. As a result I put a line through it last night.

When Cox made a play for the front I felt his attempt lacked sincerity. I could understand Robbie Close handing up to Cox but only if Cox was determined to lead. As soon as Cox got the lead he handed up which was effectively the end of Pauls Verdicts winning chances. Close perhaps should have seen the writing on the wall when Cox was fluffing about instead of just grabbing the front.

Spoiler Cox had no business being in front on a horse who was not nailed down to win. The signs were there.

I think he is criticising the driver and not the man.

I couldn't quite fathom the drive on Santanna Lad last night by Sarah O"Reilly but she was back winning with Girls Let Loose. Good on her.

I think it is fair enough to ask why Robbie C didn't look to see if it was an option to move out.

Sorry NM if you back horses like Bugalugs and Pauls Verdict and blaming the goose and ferg I think you may need help

From that I take it you want punters/observers to only say good things about everyone.

If you think anyone who bet on Pauls Verdict and Bugalugs or horses like that, needs help then that would be  nearly every punter. Is that a true reflection on how you value their contribution to the sport?

You state on the other thread you won't even watch the races concerned, yet  comment anyway.

Everyone knows its just a race, and drivers make mistakes, but before they move on to the next race whats wrong with making comment about something that you have just seen.

One thing punters hardly ever do,and I know I never do,is complain about drivers  who put their horses in the race and give them their chance.    95% of what you may view as negative comments relate to drives where the drivers simply sat back  on slow paces,or stayed on the fence,or never pulled out when the gap was there.

Its the phyche of a punter to do that.

So bobby bec, I think posters should be able to blow off a bit of steam  and make comments without being told they have a problem..

Its just the process they go through before moving on to the next race meeting. You should know that.

Fair comments there galah.  I rubbish poor drives regularly, I have backed Bugalugs a bit recently.  The horse has limited ability therefore can't be put in the race, either lead or do work.  I blow off steam, Tim Williams whenever I back him he gets beaten.  The german is another i can't get right.  As for Craig Thornley ..... but hey all 3 drive their share of winners

I agree with you Bec that 3 drivers can be hit and miss and one or two down south  two

Yeah, didnt bet on it today. Drew nicely at forbury, that was its race to win.

Today, drew wide, early burn to front. Still good run, but looked not so sharp
