Just watched it again.

1.48.6 and last quarter in 25.3 and yet the commentator does not even really react. He later describes it as a 'sharp debut'

Lazarus admittedly had a good run, but in order to get it showed really encouraging gate speed.

And great effort to find and post the video!

He's going too need to find a lot more gate speed than 28.2 too break the record. The preferred at the meadowlands today opening 1/4 25.4 home in 26. Same horse did it at both ends.

i think you will find the video has been splashed all over social media today!

Geese some hard taskmasters on here. The poor horse hasnt spent a lifetime running miles and being accustomed to the training regime associated with that.

He comes out and runs 1.48 and change at a first up effort.!!. Regardless of early speed , which they should be able to improve, it beggars belief what this horse may be capable of ultimately after adapting to mile racing.

Sit back and admire boys, you may be watching History being made.

I bloody well hope so.

While gate speed might seem to be a wonderful thing, in all reality - the ability to merely hold one's own out of the gate in America is just as important.

Indian file racing is the key to life over there - and thus, as long as he can settle handy enough to the speed, he's not going to have to many problems sliding up into the death and outstaying his rivals, I wouldn't have thought. And, coming out of the gate in 25 over there, is probably the equivalent of coming out in better than 27 here - which he is more than capable of.

As Globe said, 1:48.6 in a qualifier is a pretty impressive effort.

Watch the magic unfold from here.

Information from HRNZ website.

The Dan Patch will be broadcast live on Trackside 2 this Saturday afternoon, with a post time of 1.30pm. However due to the nature of North American harness racing time schedules this could run slightly later.

Cheers.

Robert.

Thanks Chief for posting Lazarus race.

Great for NZ harness that he won and gives enthusiasts something to talk about and it might mean that more Yanks come looking for our better class horses.

The Race was extremely BORING though wasn’t it?

You can hardly get excited about MILE races and as I have previously said the fewer that we have in NZ the better!

Thank god that the next Jewels is over a longer distance as miles are a borefest!!!!

Well done Lazarus!!!

whoop weeee hoooo risk won over there too think it went faster than laz

Does that make Risk a better horse than Lazarus then?

Mile Racing is so overrated.

Most horses can run a mile and you got black print when you rated under 2.0minutes.

Then anything in the 1.50’s was motoring and noteworthy!

Now they are running sub 1.50 in qualifying over there!

What sort of time would that mare that the Tritons bought off the Teaz’s?

She could run sub 1.50 at Menangle somshe would go a helluva lot quicker in the States if she was still sound and at peak.

When they are running those sort of times it becomes just a damn procession as you have got no show of making up ground!
