Chief Stipe
Chief Executive of Racing Industry Transition Agency to step down 17 September 2019 Racing Industry Transition Agency (RITA) Chief Executive John Allen is stepping down from his role at the end of the year. Mr Allen says the New Zealand Racing Board and now RITA, have invested in critical improvements in betting technology and broadcasting over the last five years and increased customer numbers. “The major programmes of investment are largely completed, creating a strong foundation to grow products for Kiwi punters and profit for the racing industry. “After five years as Chief Executive it is time to begin the search for a new leader to oversee the transition to TAB NZ. “This was a difficult decision, but with the racing reforms underway, it’s timely for someone else to lead the TAB and deliver the revenue growth to support a sustainable racing industry.” RITA Chair Dean McKenzie acknowledged Mr Allen’s leadership since becoming CEO in 2015 during which time there has been important investment in the TAB. “The innovations overseen by Mr Allen have provided the TAB with a solid foundation for growth to support racing and sport in New Zealand, and the Board is optimistic the investments will deliver the returns the industry needs in coming years. “We now need to focus on lifting profits, increasing distributions to racing and improving the betting experience for Kiwi punters. Achieving the outcomes set out in the current reform of racing will play an important part of securing a positive future for racing.” Mr Allen paid tribute to the team at RITA for its support and effort to deliver innovations that he says will have long and lasting benefits for racing. “It has been a great privilege to hold this position and lead an incredible bunch of people. “I also want to acknowledge the huge number of people from across the industry, in the codes, club volunteers, the owners and trainers for their support. There is significant opportunity ahead for the industry and I am genuinely confident of the future.” Mr Allen will stay on until Christmas to support RITA through the next phase of industry reform and to oversee a transition to a new CEO. Boxie
Saville should have gone long ago and didn't help Allen any. A wagering expert he isn't by a long way and some of his efforts should be formally investigated. 1
theshu
Should have been sacked the day they opened the new TAB system. Wasted 50 million on a 5 million value product.

Reefton
Actually might dust off my own CV(not that I've got one) I will need some character references though - can I put all your names down? Yeah right!
nomates
Your already ahead of 99% of the gang already there , you have genuine hands on experience of the industry to go with your actual passion and knowledge of NZ racing . 5 people that fill the above criteria and we would be half way to sorted . Guarenteed the next CEO will be of the same ilk as JA and his predecesors . Hire someone with a passion for racing , put them on a lower base salary with good performance bonuses based around achieving tough KPI's .

Yes the trouble is they will get some employment consultancy firm in and inevitably they will get someone with half the alphabet after his name, a glowing showroom standard CV and not a clue in the whole wide universe about how the industry operates nor a sherrick of empathy for those who drive it. And quite possibly an Aussie or Pom to boot((not hat I have got anything in particular against Aussies or Poms but if they are that good what the eff are they wanting to come here for?) And when they(the Board ) are challenged about the misfit they have appointed they will dutifully advise 'we followed best process' You can absolutely see it happening 3

Here's hopeing .

Chief Stipe
Poisoned Chalice as it was for Allen. The biggest and only mistake was he listened to who was still employed and didn't sack them. Fair enough he bought his own crew in but even they couldn't cut out the rot. Requires someone to come in with the hatchet and carve the rotten wood out.

Freda
Yeah, well, I'm as pleased as anyone to see him about to move on - but it is a big stretch to lay the industry's ills firmly at his feet alone. The whole operation has been trending downwards for far longer than his reign, adeptly assisted by NZTR in all its various clothes. And we still have officials and industry personnel who think NZTR are doing ' a great job ' . 1 1
Bloke
I am sure that the Auckland Racing Club thinks NZTR are doing a great job Freda as they propped up the Magic Millions by the tune of $500k

Mark D
The fact of the matter is that JA said if he didn't turn things around in 3 years he would walk. He didn't and he stayed. He had a good reputation, whether he deserved that or not or whether it was all perception (which it so often is), that is gone but I am sure it won't stop him getting another top job somewhere. An abject failure and disappointment 1
NZRacing
Sounds like the NZRB has been run by a bunch of out of control vagabonds looking after their own interest rather than the Industry who pays them.

Of course they have. And this 'resignation' is a further example of the snouts being well entrenched in the trough. Allen is apparently on around $650,000 per annum. So he gets the 'Dont Come Monday'...efffective end of the year???? Thats another 14 weeks, do you realise that is another $175,000.!! For fucks sake this is just adding insult to injury. Deplorable state of affairs. No wonder he said he's going to have a 'rest' over Summer!! Wouldn't well like to have that sort of a rest?
