I remember when a local livewire started a petition to get Rangiora back racing or trialling after the serious racing accident in 2006. The number of sycophants who shook their heads and refused to sign was astounding...but nearly all have happily taken advantage of that hard work and associated fundraising efforts, and trial their horses there. Agree , too many of the big boys wont get on board . The president of the trainers assn has fired barely a word in anger about our current administration . Most he said was about getting a synthetic to help with race meetings getting canned , and guess what he got one at his home track . If he can't speak up for his members why would they bother . 1

I know one who refuses to trial there. Yes and the last time i spoke to her was a year ago and whist she had improved, she still wasn't allowed a drivers licence, due to ongoing seizures. They shouldn't have raced that day,but the steward in charge that day,i believe was S Ching. who retired from that role, but he wasn't lost to the industry,he become a member of the JCA. If you read the report, from memory it says"if NZTR continue race at Rangoria and any person injured or killed in a race incident, due to the track, manslaughter would be the charge.

Yes, a very sad situation, which, with modern H & S laws, would never have happened.

Kopia
Dear Bernie and Dean et al.....so it appears that 1 July 2020 is the proposed first raceday? ( gallops)...pray tell me what steps are being taken between now and then to trim your budgets, for instance to stop the indiscriminate travel throughout NZ by people like stipe Oathum ( who apparently chooses to live in Christchurch, but still travels to Auckland/Hamilton almost weekly because he can), and other waste of travel etc by other industry participants..j.c.a., etc etc...and more importantly, how is the industry going to fund ANY races given that it is still over 2 months to a raceday/income AND your costs are daily spiralling out of control..as we speak??? AND it also appears that every dollar the whole industry spends on a daily basis now is borrowed...??
curious
Do you think we could possibly get a straight answer to that question and also to the question of the status and likely outcome of what MPI will allow us to do at the various upcoming levels with respect to training, trialling and racing?

Maybe MPI should stick to slaughtering dairy cows and trying to eradicate Mycoplasma bovis which I might add is a waste of money and taking a long long time. Instead of telling us how to ride horses! 1
curious
Maybe they should but the fact remains that they will be the arbiter of how to ride horses under the various alert levels and it dismays me that after a month at alert level 4 NZTR have still not got clarification of what can and can't happen at the lower levels. There is confusion and no-one can plan anything because of it. 1

Apparently a Facebook livestream tomorrow might be worth asking Q & A WITH NZTR's CEO | Bernard Saundry will be hosting a Facebook LIVE session at 10am Thursday 23 April. Please leave any questions you have regarding the return to racing and the draft calendar in the comments section so we can collate these prior to the live session. Alternatively, you can email mary.burgess@nztr.co.nz. All questions should be left or emailed by no later than 10pm Wednesday 22 April.

Freda
Can't see much point. They don't yet have the information from MPI and other departments about training protocols, nor do they have figures from RITA to show funding levels. What else is there to discuss if those two points can't be covered first? Dates are irrelevant if there's no fekkn money.
curious
Yes, they clearly don't have any answers to the key questions that we all need to know before we can plan anything. Not much point asking them again tomorrow and getting the same waffle.

Not sure of the point of that if that is the case. Its also very sad we are only seeing some action when we are in the "get out stakes" stage. I'm pretty sure they will. Not so confident about the racing industry. The sunset may have come early.
