The Bishopdale Tavern next door has the Pokies! This government are working on having these closed down as well. Seriously, shocking mistakes made by public servants on huge salaries has rooted an industry that so many of us enjoy! How on earth do they really think that having no TAB agencies open, no promo for races and chucking our betting vouchers into machines with no personality is a successful recipe for getting new punters? How are punters that want to collect their winnings in cash meant to get on???? The pub TAbs never have enough cash to pay out as they aren’t allowed to hold much!!!! Think I will have to give it away once again!!

Basil
Further to this, I was at the Cashmere Club this arvo, which is, or was, the closest TAB to Barrington. The dedicated betting windows were gone, leaving only a single self-service machine. Which was broken. Oh happy days!

The dedicated betting windows were gone, leaving only a single self-service machine. Which was broken. Oh happy days! Just a follow-up on this matter. After weeks of trying, I finally got a response from the Cashmere Club about what had happened: "Hi Basil, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. During the lockdown the TAB advised us they were cutting our commission they paid us to nil. As a result we were not going to be paid for the labour of operating their terminal so we had to return it as It was unsustainable to operate. Please note we still have a Self Service TAB Pod at the club by the stairs as you go up to the pool hall. Regards,..." Zero commission?! That seemed hard to believe, so I contacted the TAB asking them to confirm. I got this: "Hi Basil, Your email was passed onto me from our helpdesk however as remuneration is part of an agreement TAB and Cashmere club have I am not able to discuss the specifics. However as Ben stated, TAB and Cashmere Club representatives entered into discussions around viability and the decision was made that it was unsustainable to continue with the manned terminal however the Club still provides TAB services via the SST terminal which allows customers to place all bets, redeem winning vouchers and deposit into TAB accounts. The Club also shows racing via the Trackside One and Trackside Two tv channels. If you have any additional questions or concerns I have cc'd in Ben from Cashmere Club who will be able to assist. Thanks," I'm not surprised that zero commission is "unsustainable"! If that's how TABs are now being remunerated, I'm amazed there are any left at all. 3

Honestjohn
I The Hornby club is the best place to go, no trouble getting cash out. Tab at the avohead tavern is the highest turnover in the South Island so I'm told. And the friendliest. Last time I was at cashmere club the tab was operating. Pre covid! Havnt been to the yaldy in a while, but it was good last time there.
Honestjohn
Tab at the harewood tavern was operating through covid. Very good service. I went at least three times. Owned by Shelton Martha's sister I'm told. Same as the bush inn one? Edited August 12, 2020 by Honestjohn Mistake
