WTF Jay Abernethy?

Newmarket

Recommended Posts

Hey Newmarket, I'm on my ph is harder to check things. I just took a look at Mon Westport. And Maria K is owned by his bro. A Little Bit of Love is owned by himself & bro. Edamast who placed 3rd is owned by their Syndicate. For a full investigation I'd need to look thru all on my laptop.

I saw on his Stables Facebook page a great pic of a Xmas fest, put on by the looks by a local. I'll try post here when I can. I also recall seeing him make the trip last & year prior. So thinking it's an annual thing.

saw that

that would have me going back time after time

Tots Ranga me too 😄 for those that missed it, the caption reads - Welcome to Westport 😄

Did a bit more of a check & Peter F is owned by himself & his bro, (Adieu Flirt got a 2nd on Mon, she is owned by individuals. I think she has run in some fillies/mares group races). Just checked Mon results. 132106107_3571751426194898_4863611081159616715_o.thumb.jpg.7e19bdfff0953a7cec2965df8d39a629.jpg

This guy must be a great salesman, to tell his owners the nags they own will be competitve on the coast.
They all went crap, against piss poor opoosition?? What was he thinking, I would be disgusted if i was one of his owners.
Keep those battlers at manawatu!!

If you want to see some awful stats then have at look at how the Hope stable went over the 3 days, a lot of starters and they all generally went awful, a couple of placings and that was it.

Was just saying on another post I followed the McDowell horses over the 3 days, unless I catch them on nelson circuit and get a return, that man deserves a db.Even the Hope's didn't have much joy, just as hard to win there as anywhere

As I said in reply in other thread Nelson will be a different kettle of fish.  All Weather Track and fresh influx of Canterbury horses.

Fair enough if that is the case. Its an expensive trip gambling and boozing, without taking nags for a ride.
I know the coast caters for lower class racing, but looking at the last weeks racing, it is getting worse.

As for the Hopes, yes they had poor circuit. Lets hope Bens neck is ok, he is looking begind him more than in front😳

Just to add, Dean Taylor is another one struggling. Although, with a better drive, Baileys Diamond should have won down south.
I know that some of his owners have purchased horses for good money to give them a better show of winning, but certainly the results are not coming. Great to have loyal clients, but their comes a time when maybe you should try one of the many up and coming trainers, just my view

This would have to be one of the most clueless posts ever!!!

other posters have already pointed out most of the horses are owned by the Abernathy's.i just had a quick calculation and I reckon jay picked up about$5500. I'm sure that goes a long way to pay for the working holiday. And 2 more days racing to pick more stake money to cover costs. Since jay has kept going back I'm sure he enjoys the west coast hospitality that these clubs are famous for!

I guess those placing jay got must have raced like "crap" as well.

And what makes you god to tell someone where they can and can't race there horses!!

Trent Yesburg for one, Regan Todd, plenty of them. I think your an older type person that never thinks outside the square. Try it sometime, look at other  options, you might surprise yourself

$5500??? FFS, your joking arent you? By the time you pay costs, you are well into the red.

Not knocking the guy, and yes, others have said, his owners are not paying for much of costs, but usually most trainers take horses with a chance to be competitive, but as you say, its more of a sleepover trip.
Well done, happy new year

You are kidding with yesburg!! Right

he would be the last trainer I would give a horse to. I want a real horseman training my horses. Not a science based one as he has claimed he is in the past. There is more to training horses than being a chemist!

At least with Regan you are not as clueless as I thought you were!

Ok know it all how much do you think it costs him to get to the coast. A breakdown of what you think his costs are would be nice.

Also don't forget he has 2 more days racing to pick up more stake money!

So running 2nd or third is not competive in your book?

The ferry costs would be thousands unless the horses swam across the strait?

What does it cost then? Given that Kiwi Rail charge like wounded bulls, "thousands" doesn't sound too unlikely.

I know it costs around a $1000 for a camper van and that is one-way. A five or six berth horse float truck would cost more.
