Gavin Smiths terrible run continues, his well hyped up debut runner in this race was beaten at the 600m mark and tailed off after getting the good run, this guy used to be able to train once upon a time, now he had nothing at all, maybe he needs to move down to Woodend Beach and get his hands on the good stuff?

A post-race veterinary on James Cagney examination including a scope revealed mucus in the trachea. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.

The other runner My Ultimate Chevron finished a nice 3rd giving them a head start turning for home. I thought at one stage it might keep buzzing thru to win, but no, seemed to come to the end of it, still got a nice 3rd after a 1st up win in a group race.

Hey theres' been plenty of Telfer stable multiples in races at Auckland doing a better job than this race. Tune in on Friday and see some more.

Kisses from me to Nat xxxxxx

Guerrin said on Boxseat that “it was a big call but he would make it, that Telfer had a good chance of being top premier trainer within next 5 years”.

Had been thinking the same thing, but put it at more like 3 years. But didn’t think it was a big call, was thinking well this is the way its likely going to be once they set up the South properly with numbers end of year & when some of those well breed what 40 odd yearlings hit the race track.

Time will tell of course.

PS Gamms a nice write up about your dream girl winning back driving on HRNZ 😃

Without Telfer in the North Island, it would be in an even more precarious position.

Still have doubts that racing in the north can continue the way it is with the stake money it currently pays due to the small fields and dwindling owners, trainers and drivers.

The industry can not afford it and there is no way that they are profitable currently, has to be supported by Sports betting.

Yeah I hear you Brods,

To clarify they would stay in North, but sister would go run the property they brought which they take over end of year South. That is what Telfer said on Boxseat.

It would depend on how many horses they sent South, as obviously less races in the North weekly, to get the premiership in future, they would need to crank up the South base with numbers.

He was asked to guess how many owners he had and he guessimated 400 ish currently. So yes without Telfer North would be rather worse off 😬

As commented on by our good friend Karrots, Telfer is opening a Canterbury-based training establishment. It will be run by his sister Amanda and operate from Jack Smolenski's old property. Many winners and classy performers from that stable over the decades mate. Will be interested to see if the Telfer's can be successful in the South Island.

Never knock someone for trying but surely it's easier to win races in the NI than the SI and on the face of it more $$$ in the NI, if he's got nice young horses they're just coming south to compete against Cullen's best young horses.

Forbs this is old news now. We discussed this last nite on another thread.

The "others" knew what they were up against. And if they didn't, they just needed to come to BOAY and read it as I had posted what would happen should they give the lead/rail line up.

The "others" collectively have to smarten up or it will just happen again & again. So no sympathy from me for Team "Others".

Wasnt team driving, the fact is they were 3 best horses in the race and driven like it.Everybody knows they are always driven positively because they are the best horses in the race.Look at all the Allstar Aussie wins over the last 15 years,Usually one horse in the race and no matter what the draw just about always in first 4 horses turning for home.
