What a wonderful story on HRNZ today about him a hobby trainer with his runners in Jewels. Fantastic Guerin has picked up the smaller trainers & given a mention. Took a quick look thru & found L Driver also, has 1 in the trot, looks like another fellow hobby trainer with a decent UDR rate to boot. Good luck and congrats to ALL the smaller trainers and hobby trainers that have runners qualified for Jewels Day. May the force be with you. 3

He has been around for decades and usually has a decent horse. What a hard worker he is. Dr Chin is typical of many Chinese in that they don't mind hard work. Chinese, and other Asians, have a wonderful work ethic and understand that to get ahead you have to work for it and put the hours in. Pity, some members of other races didn't follow the same example instead of blaming others for their misfortunes. Roll on the Jewels....

Oh my D, was just taking a lil peak & can't believe this BUT Karrots may just have a starter in 2 y-o Jewels with wee Sugar Apple now moved up to 13th so is 1st emergency! With a bunch of withdrawals, Ardens Horizon, Cantfindabettorman & Mercury Rising now make up the top 12. So will have to do the final list on Friday, when the DRAW IS OUT. Wonder how many peeps will be sitting on the website hitting the refresh button lol come Friday hehe. Was looking for Fabrizio too, to see if he might get a start but doesn't look likely, BUT you never know. That 4 y-o boys race looks set to be a cracker! Brodie
Stakes reduced to $100k is fair enough. The Jewels Day must be a huge drain on the coffers! Great to have something that encourages horses to race but the day itself is very overrated by many! Short distance racing at Cambridge is a real yawn and if you have a horse with average ability drawing poorly, would you want to travel up to Cambridge from the South? Punting wise, it is a write off for the serious punters!

Punting wise, it is a write off for the serious punters! But the positive about it being at Cambridge & being a dash for cash, is that some of the others have a chance to win or place. The favourites could get rolled, the 4 y-os boys for example, many of them have a chance at winning. It opens it up a bit oppose a big track like Addington which gets it every 2nd year anyway. Take Bettor Twist who has won most of the Group races for her age group. Some of the others will get their chance. Id like to see another horse take out the 4 y-o boys, as was rooting for Copy T to get his group 1 win, he’s got that now. So Id like to see someone else that hasn’t had a group 1 win get it and so on & so forth. A just for fun guessing game for you Brods 😀, is this fact or fiction … ? Average age of your fav party membership is in the 70’s & they are worried in 20 years they will lose 1/2 their members due to this … ?

Punting wise, it is a write off for the serious punters! Not necessarily mate. I think that the three-year-old races are clear-cut. Krug and Bettor Twist are far better than the rest so should win regardless of the draw. Possibly, could put Akuta in this category too. But the other races are wide open. The favourites may win but there will still be good place prices on offer I am sure of that. If a horse can get a soft run on the fence behind a hot pot, in the trail or 3 back, iit is in with a real chance to get a good payout and pay plenty. I don't think the lead will change much, and sitting cosy on the fence is the place to be. Take the NZ Derby as an example. The Falcon, had a dream run three back on the fence and ran third paying $25 (yes, I was on). The same thing can happen at the Jewels if you get a competent driver putting his/her horse in the dream spot without doing much work like Gerard O'Reilly did with The Falcon in the Derby. I think the opportunity for double figure place prices is huge Brodie. Roll on the Jewels...

Jones
30 minutes ago, Ludwig said: Thanks for addressing the issue. If the Jewels are so great, then why the decreasing stakes? I recall reading the Jewels stakes would be dropped due to that whole industry drop in stakes, remember when that happened & there was concern they may not get off the ground. So obviously they compromised and dropped the stakes from $150k to $100k As for Ludwig here you are complaining about the Jewels stakes, putting forward zero ideas or ways to help get stake back up to $150k, just being negative. Yet interestingly enough you down-voted 2 of my earlier posts on another thread (one when I was giving ideas for promotion/marketing for it & another for an aim target goal turnover e.g. 5 mil or 5.5 million ish). Both these posts were over-all trying to help to get a high turnover for the day, ultimately in hope that it helps with getting stakes back up to $150k for it, as it once was pre-covid or so it isn’t costing the industry as much, so it can be more justified to have it. Total contradictions yet again by you Ludwig. This is an example when I said that Gamms & myself get tired of the negativity & it gets life sucking. NZ Cup , the plum race of the country for the best going around, was only $300,000 for winner last time for SELF ASSURED . Down from the $400,000 for winners in recent past years . so the decrease there is 25% . quite a large amount in one year. so not just the jewels going Down in Value unfortunately. 2

Gamma, reality is that racing is struggling in NZ, despite several saying that turnover is increasing blah blah! If you have any financial nous you will be able to work it out! Forbury racing for $7k Thursday night! The turnover on harness is nowhere near high enough to be able to pay for the current stakes being paid, even though they are very poor in general! Gamma, not warm enough over in NZ at the moment for melt downs, that is what happens in OZ! Gamma yes you can live in the past with harness racing in NZ, which was great! However, things continue to go down hill for a variety of reasons! Reality is that the NZ TAB doesnt care about harness racing as it is a liability to them, they are surviving on Sports betting which costs them very little, to pay their salaries!
