Gammalite
Well during this Olympic times was great to see the kiwis get a Win in the Rowing Pair just now. Grace Prendergast name reminded me of a great Canterbury harness trainer , Dick Prendergast, who battled away with some trotters and in 1987 won the Dominion Handicap with SIMON KATZ at that horses 102nd race start !!! just his 15th win too. The great man Dick Prendergast , doing the thing we all know results in winners , putting a youthful Anthony Butt on for the drive. ! t

I was too young to remember. also Rod Dixon got Bronze in 1500m on the track. 2 years later to the tune of Steve Allens 'Join Togeather ' we did enjoy and remember much of the Christchurch commonwealth Games in 1974. brilliant. Rod Dixon only 4th in the 1500m on that occasion. (They { Filbert Bayi} went a world record with John Walker CBE finishing 2nd) The first great race I can ever remember seeing !!! At the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, do you remember the Interdominion final at the field Hockey? It was big BIG !! NZ defeated Aus 1-0 in the final !! golden moment for our nations. And began the decline of harness racing. (and the sad social impact) Crap , the Blue Riband swim 100m just went off, and our Aussie bloke got beat 0.06 of a second. How close can you go. An interesting thing happened with Aussies in that tournament. They TIED with India in their Pool after the first round, so an EXTRA match was scheduled to see who would progress to the Semi against Pakistan. was still at 1-1 after extra time !! so in one of the most tense Penalty shoot-outs ever in Hockey. Aus scored all five goals, and India 4 out of 5 with one bloke Ajit missing. poor bugger that missed after all that!!! . Ajit is still trying to get out of Canada after all these years. lol........

Chief Stipe
Yeah great stuff! I was in love with Emma Twigg for a brief celebratory moment then learnt she already has a wife called Charlotte. So switched on to watch Prendergast and the two Gowler sisters in the 8's. Fantastic stuff! Then to top the day off screamed at the TV over the last 500m 9f the men's 8's bringing back memories of that fantastic day in 1972.
Karrotsisback
NZ have have won more Gold than any other medal. Yay. In fact, we are usually in the top 3 of the table in the world, when it comes to medals per head of population. Which means it takes us less to produce an high performance sports person, so for example it might take us only every 100k in population than it does to other nations, way ahead of Aus, USA and all the others. Eg we can produce a medal performer in 1 in every 100k oppose to Aus who might take 1 in every 200k or something. (Figures are not correct but an example). Sorry folks Iv got no real news or goss to post, will perhaps pop back when I have some. Edited August 3, 2021 by Karrotsisback
Karrotsisback
Have news to share but its about Olympics not racing. We are 4th in world per capita as per link https://medalspercapita.com 1st San Marino takes 1 in every 11,310 to medal 2nd Bermuda. “ “ 63,918 3rd Grenada “ “ 112,523 4th NZ “ “ 252,801 Forgot to mention the Jnrs woman are kicking butt, winning the championships comp 4 years on end! Back to Olympics Womans rugby took Gold. K Gowler/ G Prendergast took Gold E Twigg also Gold L Carrington winning 3 Golds at Tokyo & has now won NZ’s most Olympic medals ever (she is Maori woman too, didn’t realise this until the other day). Remember hooting & cheering with her & a handful of other kiwis at Rio, we were all in the stadium close to one another, when Walsh won his bronze shot put & was doing victory lap around stadium with the 2 Americans. The very same 3 finished 1st, 2nd 3rd again this year too. Anyway we all ran down to same area at front of stand, waved, yelled & put the Kiwi flag out. So the 3 of them came over 😄 If anyone ever gets the chance to go to Olympics to watch, highly recommend it, its the best experience ever. Back to story, so that is 6 of our 7 Gold medals won by females. L Ko took the bronze today. Kiwi sportswoman are slaying it. Ps oh and I'm allowed to post currently still after all of that, go figure. No social media law has come in properly yet. Brodie
Karrots, why would you be worried about a stupid rule that has no merit? I believe we are meant to be in a free speech country? Risk verse reward, worst case scenario for me being pulled into HRNZ & made an example of. Reward - no reward for posting. Other than some entertainment with others that share a common hobby/interest. Plus don’t want to disrespect the rule. Anyway Im allowed to atm. Golly after all of that! The big farewell lol. Anyway moving on. Closing ceremony is on tonight. I went to the closing ceremony at Rio. It was amazing. Some tips for anyone that may in future attend the games. 1. If you don’t have tickets to certain events thats fine, people turn up near the gates & try to sell their tickets, e.g. if their team didn’t make the semi’s but your team did unexpectingly, then you can head along & pick up a ticket and at a discount too usually. (Im not sure if this is legal however it happens) lol 2. If you enjoy having the odd drink socially, its so high adrenaline & action packed & dashing from event to event, that you don’t take a single drop of alcohol the entire time you are there. You are amongst so many other supporters from so many other countries of the world. So many different languages flying around around you. Everyone is just so excited. The atmosphere is electrical. 3. The NZ team due to us being a smaller nation the athletic are more accessible. Very lucky we are like that! (On my flight B Kendall was sitting in next row to me). There is a Team NZ house that is great to go into. I also meet L Ko’s family, her sister thanked me & co for attending 1 of her rounds. (Due to most other kiwi supporters being at the water sport that same day). 4. When you go sightseeing you bump into & walk around with athletics from all over the world, as they have finished up & also sightseeing. 5. Felt really safe as pretty much every 100 metres there were armed soldiers with those big as guns, slapped over there soliders. Like everywhere train stations, along the beach & thru the city. Its a 1 in a million experience, if you enjoy rooting for your country & are into sport at world class level. Oh it brings back great memories pre-covid. Putting out to the universe that the world will return to normal next year ... 🙏 2

Putting out to the universe that the world will return to normal next year ... 🙏 Fantastic Karrots.!! See you in Brisbane then in a few years where you can re-live some of the experiences !! I thoroughly enjoyed Melbourne 2006 and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth games , going to as many events I could get tickets for with the kids. Won't be going to track cycling though. I've just spat out my sandwich as all the girls were crashing just now in Omnium, at 60-80 kph , and just can't bear watching that.!!! Is getting like MOTO GP with the high powered motorbikes , Just going that FAST they lose control , and people get badly hurt. so don't watch motobikes anymore either. The Olympic cycling had that many crashes it was becoming awful. The kiwi bloke in the team pursuit, the Aussie's had a crash too, and Denmark. It's just getting crazy stupid. so so dangerous.

Fun stuff Gamms, I dear say, Olympics is next level to Commonwealth, still sounds like you & kids had a ball of fun. And yes Gamms saw that re BNE. Fab times ahead! NZ have done amazing, coming in 4th per capita & 12th on medal count so far. Canada has pipped us this time, 1 silver ahead of us to take 11th spot. We pipped them last Olympics to take 19th spot, they were 20th. See an article on Ko that a journo asked her if she is taking medals off South Korea. She answered it superbly. Adding she was proud to bring a medal home for NZ. Remember watching her at Rio & we ran ahead a few holes & planted the black Silver Fern flag up on barrier thing right behind the hole so when she walked down towards it she would see it. To let her know there was NZ support there! As we were completely over-ridden by South Koreans supporters in a wave of red (there supporting eventual South Korean winner). There were so few of us Kiwis there that day. In hindsight, no one much else would have known what that flag was, but she did. (Along with her family). I note that she wore on her last day yesterday, a black cap with NZ on the side & the fern on front. Was that a special shout out to Karrots and co & all the Kiwi supporters ?? hehe So good to see her back in form again.

Was nom-ed for sportsperson of year at high school, but it went to someone who went on to become a pro rugby player international level. Over the hill now! BUT a very young family member said to me the other day, "how do you get to go to Olympics"? I replied saying, "you have to qualify". They replied saying "I want to play in the Olympics". I was like "what sport", they replied "soccer". So I went & watched them play soccer/football yesterday, to assess hehe. Will try & keep them motivated towards their future goal 👏😃
