The harness crossings just don’t get any better!!!

Have watched several races from both Westport yesterday and Gore today  on the grass tracks!

Both the crossings were absolutely diabolical with many horses galloping as soon as they hit them!

Is this really fair on the punter, owners  and trainers?

Surely it can not be that difficult to sort this out so that the surface is  not shifty????

Just shouldnt be happening!

Agree totally. The Gore one was a shocker, and several horses I backed took a gallop. The crossings are very poor.

I think they just chuck grass over the top of the gravel!

If this is what they do then no wonder it is shifty!

Surely these tracks like Reefton and Westport and Gore that have very few race meetings can get rid of the gravel and replace with compacted soil and heavy readylawn prior to a racemeeting?

It can not be that difficult??

They chuck grass over it so there is minimal difference in colour.  They would be better to leave them bare in my opinion.

Of course trainers could always train their horses to handle it.

It is the shiftiness of the grass moving on the gravel surely that makes them gallop?

Paint the gravel green would be far better.

Just lunacy what they have!

Its ok, the Australian Greens what to ban racing in Australia!!

God help Australia and NZ both if the losers that represent the Greens ever get into any sort of power again!

What has the world become with all these WOKE Lefties in charge?

Worst lot of power crazy losers the world has ever had in power!

Seriously, wake up NZ Citizens, educate yourselves as to what rot is setting in!

Thing is though Chief to be fair, racing is suffering due to the what is happening!

I always post with some relevance to harness racing!

It is healthy to discuss what is going on, a major part of the problems we currently have is because of the ignorance of people as to what is happening and the acceptance of people to believe in the BS coming from the media that is under the control of the Govt.

One question I was thinking, why don't they use all weather track, at all.

As for the grass track, apart from the crossing the track looked good., and there was a lot of people leaning on the outside fence watching, don't see that often these days.

Pretty sure it's because they rise up a foot as they approach it and drop off the other side slightly.

These horses are finely balanced in their pacing (or trotting) action, and doesn't take much to get them off-stride rocking around like that.

I watched one race to see what you were concerned about , and picked race 3 at random , and sure enough the trailing the leader horse , having got a lovely run through after the start to get a good sit, galloped at the crossing.

The Connections and Punters of ROCK MY MIND must go away bitterly disappointed. a sad situation.

Gore appeared to have some catapult value

Yeh looked bad. Maybe it was just the five out of six horses I backed galloping over the crossing that put me off.

Hopefully their track dryed out today, and going should be good tomorrow,  see Westports turnover well down, weather a little average, was ok for most of day one, people don't need to many excuses not to attend these days, maybe the vaccine passes chased more away.
