Second attempt. Things I miss.

1)harness horses with numbers on top of their heads. It used to look cool.

2) those boxes of slippery tissue that passed for toilet paper in public loos

3)being able to ask for non pc fly cemeteries in bakeries

4)and the fourth one has slipped my mind. Maybe that's what I miss.

I knew there was a 4th one. I always loved that at Gore, the first race was sponsored by the Gore Septic  tank  Cleaning co.  It gave certainty and solidity in unsettled times.

Yesterday, amberley had their meeting down the road at Rangiora. Now that seems logical.

But every year, Cheviot go all the way in to Addington for theirs. I'm certain there's some logic behind it but I can't see it??

they run a bus from Cheviot to Addington 45 dollars a ticket .maybe they go there for the longer trip more pub stops on the way home

Returning a large lemonade bottle and getting an icecream and 8 aniseed balls.

To this day I have a vivid memory of when I was about 4 being asked by my mother to go down to the local Dairy and get a packet of Cameo.  I knew she wanted cigarettes (she was a two packet a day forever) which I hated even at that age.  So I loaded a lemonade bottle onto the tray at the back of my little trike and off I set.  Mr Baird the Dairy owner asked me if I wanted cigarettes or a packet of biscuits.  I returned home with an icecream all over my face, 8 aniseed balls and a packet of biscuits.  Mum looked at me and asked for the change which I duly handed over.

I miss going to the trots at Fairfield Bankstown Harold park Penrith thirty years ago and getting told who's trying and who's not

You missed even better days in the 70's when Hondo, Paleface, Koala King and co plied their trade on those tracks, more so H Park.......the crowds were in the tens of thousands, the atmosphere unreal, the night Young Quinn won at H Park I shall never forget, white head gear, white hopples, and afterburners to die for.

Gamma, Pure Steal, Markovina, and that magic old bugger Maori's Idol, with the exception of AKL Reactor and Lazarus, why don't we see the class of horse we used to?

I'm seriously starting to think Joe that you are either partially sighted or are living in a time warp.

@Gammalite can you put him right please?

I'm living in a time warp too Chief !!  Joe Rules !!!

I want to add Popular Alm, and Paleface to his Aus list and Locarno, Lord Module , Delightful Lady and Armalight to his Nz list.

Still , Chief has 'some' credits for the 'Modern-day warrior' with Sundees Son just unbelievable last Nov. and Amazing Dream keeps turning up and getting the job done,  like Verry Elleegant would at the gallops these days.

The Hunter Cup was on national TV the other night (Amazing Dream 3rd) but was pretty 'tame' compared to all the horses Joe and I mentioned from those big crowds excitement at Harold Park and Alexandra Park .

They are still fast and classy racing today . . King of Swing going for 3rd Miracle Mile straight very soon. they are 'Just not exciting to see in the feature races' like those ones you and I mentioned IMO.

Those horses were household names at some stages.

Joe knows the good ones Chief !! tis is my verdict lol.......
