NZTR appoints next Chief Executive Officer
NZTR has appointed Bruce Sharrock as its next Chief Executive Officer. Sharrock is currently NZTR’s Chief Operations Officer and prior to that, a member of NZTR’s Board of Directors.
For the past 20+ years Sharrock has successfully founded and led his own international business in sports management, whilst actively involved in the Thoroughbred industry. "With a proven track record in outstanding leadership, industry knowledge and relationships we have absolute confidence in Bruce’s ability to continue with the momentum underway, taking NZTR into new territory. His understanding of the priorities our industry faces, and the actions required to create a sustainable future for thoroughbred racing will be critical as we continue to deliver the strategic objectives" says Chairman Cameron George.
Sharrock is expected to take up his appointment as CEO on 4th April 2022, “I am extremely proud and excited to be given the responsibility and opportunity to lead the Industry into the future.” says Sharrock
NZTR’s current Chief Executive Officer, Bernard Saundry, will undertake a structured transition with Sharrock and see the completion and implementing of some key industry initiatives before he leaves June 2022. “Bernard has made an important contribution during his tenure as CEO and his wealth of knowledge has enabled us to move forward in a positive direction. On behalf of the Industry I would like to thank Bernard for his commitment and energy to his role over the last five years.” says George.

Who couldn't see that coming.  I guess the positives are he is a Kiwi and knows how horses are trained.

Hopefully his first decision will be to disestablish is previous role of Chief Operating Officer!

Now that he has the job here's hoping he puts a fire under Cameron George and the rest of the Board!

I reckon we all have to back Bruce until proven otherwise, for Cameron George to thank Saundry and refer to his 'wealth of knowledge' shows how out of touch George is, please God let Cameron George be next to go. The only contribution Saundry made to NZ was his taxes on that obscene and disgusting salary. At least his taxes have or will go to a good social cause.

Can anyone even mention what meaningful  change BS pushed for and delivered on his watch………I cant think of one that will have a lasting significant improvement for NZ racing. So yes the new night watchman can hold the bat for now….lets she if he digs in!

Interesting to see how he does, can surely be no worse than BS and undoubtedly will be influenced a lot by his brother.

This is it for the industry, if this guy under performs then there is no coming back.

Understands the industry and unless he doesn't speak with big red any more he will have understanding of what and where the issues are, big red has been one of the few trainers to have openly complained about how we are being managed and there is no way he isn't going to be in his brother's ear.

Hopefully he gets some others opinions as well. And not just the well healed ones.

Fingers crossed, because for me this is definitely the last stop before the cliff.

Sorry I don't share your enthusiasm for this one, he will likely be another CEO who believes in the shortcuts the industry has been sold over the past few years.

I immediately assumed there will be new tracks laid at New Plymouth, including a turf and a synthetic, training tracks plus a new stable block, grandstand and corporate area PLUS a brand new pie warmer.

Am I being unkind to the bloke or have I become cynical from the recent past efforts of NZTR and the band of brothers.

Don't know where you found my enthusiasm in what i wrote, as I said yesterday, i believe we are past the point of no return.

My point is  if this guy whose own brother has taken aim at the administration of our industry, can't take any of that on board then what hope is there.

Other than bringing in V'Landys and giving him open slather I can't see any hope.

My kids bought me this wallet for Christmas.

I'm still trying to work out what it means.

Best you pay to save any embarrassment.

I think nztr were selling them as xmas gifts to industry participants, kind of your kids.

Someone's going to have to pay as we know nztr haven't got to pennies to rub together.

Now all that wouldn't be a stupid idea if the Taranaki Racing Club owned the course they race on.  Sell and develop a decent training and racing centre on some flat land with peaty soil.

He has some easy wins that could get him on the right track and will indicate which agenda he is going to follow, I'm picking we will be heading down the same track .

I see Chris Wood thinks Saundry did a good job, and that's why you lot are where you're at with racing, the Trainers association was a joke, is a joke and always will be a joke, and anyone with a pulse that thinks Saundry was good for racing has shyte for brains.......I gave Wood more credit than that, I was wrong.

Well and truly took the NZTR red pill years ago. He'll also be championing the new one as he is in the club courtesy of his brother.
