Interesting idea, Friday night trot channel , worth a go, will it catch on, who knows.

info on harness site.

I saw it being promoted but have mixed feelings. The concept is very good.....but the timing is not.

People interested in harness racing are more likely to be otherwise occupied on Friday nights with racing and sports. Thursday night would be a much better fit to my eye.

Anything that does not include Craig Thompson would be a plus. I suspect many have reached saturation point with Craig. He's incredibly boring and not what harness racing needs if they want the attention of current punters let alone stimulating new people into the game.

The idea is simply to cut out all the crap that trackside sometimes has, but in reality if they cut out the crap on trackside 1 , then no need to have a xtra channel but the pop up channel concept though on big race days is a good concept.

i guess another way of looking at things is is the harness racing good enough to justify its own channel.

Hope it works as it is needed.

Nigel Armstrong fronting it at Addington will be good.

Hardworking enthusiast that needs rewarded.

There are several unpaid enthusiasts that do a great job for harness.

Will be great to just have harness and not the dogs or gallops.

It was discussed elsewhere about the strange programming on sunday why sunday racing from nz is not on one trackside channel and 40 minute intervals at Ascot Park (gallops) , all people want is less dross, seems a good idea if there are 2 meetings, might drag a bit with 1, maybe as channel 83 is freeview maybe a opportunity to expand more specialized coverage away from the wall to wall trackside which is pushing for every cent they can drain out of people which after all is what the TAB are in business for.

Look it can only go one way!

Good to see Jason Teaz on it but unfortunate beginning and Jason looks so embarrassed .

Great idea but dont think too many will be watching channel 83 for the actual race

The concept is great as Japanese gallops don’t mix well .
I don’t know why the links and race film is so bad but impossible to watch

One would have to say that day 1 didnt go well.

I only saw parts of it, cant sit in front of tv when things to do, some of us have work to do.

Everything to do with horse racing and what is the most vital element is betting, without betting rest assured Self Assured and Sundees Son can run round a track as fast as they like but if no one bet on them,(horse racing) then they would be only as useful as some kids pony never forget that, no betting no horse racing.

However as trackside is all about jamming as many races in to squeeze every cent they can has been to the detriment of the general viewing quality for many.

So the idea of a trot channel is fine by theory but will it work , firstly is still has to cater for the punter, friday night 83 seemed to be 90 seconds behind trackside yet they were showing the win place odds  obviously after the tote had closed, and of course the video quality.

Would the presenters want to spend every friday night hosting,?

Would it attract many on nights that have those ho hum nights and there are plenty of those.

It seems to me that when 2 meetings are on then the continuity is probably better,it is on trackside so same here too, someone is obviously funding it, I did hear Mr Teaz stating they were doing things on a shoestring budget.

Maybe it might be a alternative on the bigger days/nights only, it still illustrates though that the wall to wall coverage that trackside is doesn't appeal to all, same for the gallops too.

It was stated elsewhere why two channels for nz racing on sunday, one will suffice, it seems the programmers need to listen the the customers.

Senz for radio have had their let's just say their different style of racing coverage that dont cater for the punters for nearly a year now, seems they are too thick to work it out but that's another subject for another time, maybe they are the problem or maybe it's the nongs at the TAB.

After my initial watch I didn't think to go back until our shrinking aquatic friend was previewing the last on channel 62.

I was surprised to find channel 83 was promoting syndicates at the time and I stayed to see 2 horses then went back to channel 62.

Well.the last race was run 25 mins later than original time. 10 minutes after trot night had to go off air on sky.. so if you changed channel at the time you said...it wasnt even on anymore, only on the facebook stream

UPDATE.

Anybody who doubts radios place has should tune in to the online tennis from Roland Garros at present, people of all situations listening online yet racing in Nz  has nothing but a half baked simulcast. , as I say it's not only to inform but also entertain, just my thoughts.
