Newmarket
A group of 8 of us turned up yesterday, about half were CJC members and we met in Phar Lap Room. Thought price of alcohol reasonable, $5 per tap beer with members discount, no complaints there. But the food was overpriced crap. Purchased couple of pizzas at $18 each, it was so soggy we couldn’t pick it up.I will never complain about a crummy $5 Dominoes pizza again, would have been a far better option. Chips and a few fish bites were also soggy and $16 for a small basket. Some had the plate of curry and rice, basic but ok, thought pricey at $18. No more sandwiches sold in room anymore, had to go downstairs and had limited options. Come on CJC, you can do better than that, for future meetings we have agreed to meet for brunch somewhere first, don’t eat the overpriced soggy slop at races, then go for dinner after. or, just not go to the races at all,

Freda
Can't comment personally, I'm out the back with horses, not dining..but a long-time member complained to me that the fare hadn't altered - or improved - since the 1970's. I'm told that the Addington offering is very good..but again, I can't comment from personal experience, with the exception of the Spectator's Bar. Basic - pizza, steak/chips, but ok. When i went to Trentham as teenager in the mid 70s it used to amaze me at the state of some people getting on the train back to Wgtn , some could barely stand up . 1

Turny
I host a group of ex corporates every Winter Cup day to the Balmerino buffet which for $40 is excellent, the team love it. The other fare is average. The problem we currently have is filling fields, particularly jumping races and that is a serious issue. Winter Cup day is the best day of the year, even open races a smallish crowd and normally a great Winter pick you up day. Appreciate the Committee is removed from grass roots attendees but it is a great day
curious
We had the Balmerino Room buffet both Wednesday and Saturday last week. Now $45 I think. Excellent Wednesday. Good Saturday.

I am waiting for the day I see Committee members walk the room on the ground floor and hand out a hundred $20 food and drink vouchers to the loyal regulars..... think I will be waiting a bloody long time. Interestingly on WC Day, I was stunned to see 7 under 35s on the ground floor ... that was a first for many years
KickintheKods
I got asked to leave the jockey's room dining area the last time I visited Riccarton. I thought it was very bad taste of them myself. 1

The problem is I am generally driving home for three hours after so usually decline(but still appreciate it). I don't have a problem with the Riccarton Committee. The CJC will be like every other Club - they will struggle to get people keen to be part of it

I am talking about Mills and The Chair and his Deputy, never see them as too busy on the Pinot upstairs. I only go once a year, but nothing changes, they will try of course but will be too late. I view their on course attendance as perilous. Interesting times operating without a good marketing support base. Dangerously interesting 1

In the Balmerino room, birdcage etc. The NZTR CEO was also about on Saturday.

Free lunch tickets were yellow, maybe buff. Didn't need free drink vouchers. Various committee people bought those.
Newmarket
Can somebody please tell me how I buy admission / members ticket for the Weds cup week, couplands mile day. Tried online, takes me to mostik site or whatever to purchase, says none avail? Is this correct, or can I buy direct from CJC office. I’m not after free tickets, just your advice please. Also, membership. I see it states $290 to become a city member, elsewhere it states $210? If I became a city member do I get 2 tickets for each meeting, also when does the membership period start / end. Thanks for your help, CJC are a little vague on membership

Turny
I gave it away 10 years ago as only go one day a year being Winter Cup Day as essentially I don't actively follow NZ racing any more. With the exception of National and Cup weeks the course is free of charge and Members Stand entry also free. Depends how often you go to get financial benefit from being a member. Ring Ali, she will help you

You get 3 passes as a member, one for yourself and two guest passes. As stated, unless you plan on attending all the paid entry days, I struggle to see the benefit of being a member these days.
Tesio
Cup day at Riccarton tickets now on sale, $100 ticket gets you entry through the gates and access to the ‘club stand’…………the only stand in action! That’s a lot of beers and punting money at local pub!

If its anything like the last few, the members area/stand will be so full, they actually had to start restricting people from entering even if you were a long suffering member, if you actually got in the queues and wait times for food and drink were comical.
