Does seem a tad light when non Winners are racing for $11,500 the same night. Realkty is that our better horses are being sold overseas as there is bugger all racing for them, and when they are racing they are only running for minor stake money anyway. It is not going to be any different from now on either this year.

If you were a galloper with a comparable rating between 100 - 130 would you race for $14 000? I severely doubt it.

This week they're racing for $10,000, i.e., have kept ahead of inflation. So the fall in stakes isn't across the board. Instead there seems to have been a compression of the stakes distribution. Whether this is a good policy is unknown (to me).

Me thinks that would be interesting

With A Dream
Comparing stakes with 20 years ago makes depressing reading. The question is what can be done to reverse the trend. Relying on betting turnover and sponsorship and on course income from catering will never fix the problem. Most sports with huge prize money, including NSW racing, seem to derive their income from selling broadcasting rights. I am not sure exactly how it works but I imagine this scenario, NSW racing sell broadcasting rights to a sports broadcaster in China. They might have 50 million subscribers. 1 million of them are interested in racing and pay $4.00 per week to see the races live on their tv. There is 200 million revenue. The broadcaster pays NSW racing 100 mil and keeps 100 mil for themselves. These are made up figures of course but it must work something like that. For this to work of course there needs to be a demand to see the product world wide.

Funny you say that, I was in South Africa a few years back and went into one of their tabs in Durban in the morning and they were showing and betting on Aussie harness racing, and I'm pretty sure they were betting into the supertab pools.... Brodie
Yes AllStars first and second as we have come to expect! It will continue for the years to come and the domination is only going to encourage owners to not bother investing! Yes it is negative, but it is just telling it the way it is! How many in the main race at Addington that the AllStars Ran first and second?

Think by the end of the year, The Fixer will go on to bigger and brighter things. As for Allstars team, looking forward to watching their team perform in the coming months, NZ harness would be lost without them.

NZ harness would actually be a helluva lot better off where the stakes were shared around as I am telling you now owners are getting the stitch big time.
