Does Omoto not have any irrigation? Firm 2 for a few days now. Temps in the 20s. Will they still be on tomorrow if it is a 1? The news tonight said a possible shower tomorrow. If there is no irrigation are they following NZTR guidelines by producing a 2? Unfortunately looking like small fields.

No they don't and it is hard to believe they have not got it(we have and so does Kumara).  We have been pouring water on ever since the trotting meeting because it is a bloody sight hotter in Reefton than here in Grey

It is actually doing its best to rain out there now so who knows what tomorrow will bring.  It is the Coast though and the rain soaks in quickly here

For all that Taupo produced a firm 2 on race morning last week

Good luck with your meeting Thursday.   Wish I was coming over.

I wish you were too Pam but obviously nothing suitable for it.

It didn't rain overnight so Greymouth were 'lucky' but that track will be very firm

Was indeed.  A young fella who thought his horse was 'quick' found out just how quick they need to be to sprint around Coast tracks on top of the ground!

Question for Reefton. How come the Reefton Cup, still advertised in the online RPG as an open handicap, is now an R81 and were stakeholders apprised of that change and when and how? I obviously missed it or w might have been there.

it still is an open handicap as far as I know.  Certainly haven't been advised of any change to that.  I take no notice of the programme because we get zero say in what is in there.  As often happens if there is a cock up it is not ours

late scratching of the 25k draw.

yes the scungy insurance company changed it s mind at the last minute(yesterday morning) and refused the cover

Just another little trial and tribulation that has occurred with this meeting(one of which is being down to 7 races due to the inability of NZTR to take a common sense attitude to date allocation and to jam three meetings into five days with a limited horse pool)

Pretty common occurence now, they appear to just take the top weight if there is no genuine Open Handcpers in the race and convert the race into a ratings race, probably makes it easier for them to handicap and gives them a weight spread.

Taking "no notice" guarantees no influence now or in the future.  Isn't it time for everyone to speak up?

Well if you didn't know, no wonder neither I nor my trainer did but it's definitely now an R81 and we would have possibly run had we known that at least a day or 2 before noms, preferably a few weeks before when we were discussing that option. We really wanted to support your club if it fitted.

Not much point taking notice if someone changes it without telling anyone at some late stage.

Totally fs me off and makes me want to retire the horses and do something else with my time and money.

Listen Tosser.  I could micro manage everything and sqwark at the slightest thing but do you think the SI Programming Committee or NZTR would take any notice? Not one tiny little bit!  I am as surprised and unhappy as anyone that that race has been altered but that is typical of the sort of treatment small Clubs get.  I don't even recall seeing the draft programme at all but if I had I would have picked that change up

You are always on the sidelines sniping about what everyone else should do whether it be tracks or administration or protest or whatever.  You want to line up on a Club Committee or Presidency of a small Club and find out how it feels to do a raceday preparation virtually on your own with the powers that be happy to boot you in the guts when it suits them.  I have to temper that though by saying a lot of those guys individually know the game is rooted(and try to help when necessary) but they are bound by the corporate policy and have to toe the line,

Then give them notice.  Ring them, write to them.  Get everyone you know to do the same.  Inform them of the consequences of their inaction or actions.  We know most of them are incompetent make them accountable.  Give the Chair of the local programming committe a ring and give him an earful.

Give your trainer a call.  He's on the committee isn't he?

As for not nominating because it was an Open.  Hell when was the last time there was a true Open Handicap race in the South Island let alone the North other than on a Premier Day?  Even then they are scratching to get enough high rated horses.

Don't blame you Brent and the Club's apologies for that but as I said I was not aware and now it has cost us a runner(s) in the event.  We would love to have had Pam and the horse there after going so close last year but more things out of our control and which leads to us being embarrassed by other people's actions

Could you email me the page from the online calendar so I can launch a protest to NZTR please.  brian@molloy.co.nz

Not that it will do any good but I don't mind giving them a bollocking

Suspect from the number of undeclared riders we are going to get smashed with scratchings but little we can do about that.

Not happy but you are no doubt 100% correct.  I will take it up with the Secretary to see what he knew(if anything) and didn't tell me

talking about programming I see Kumara has an R80 1150 and an R75 1150.  They will get away with it by dividing other fields but sometimes you do wonder what is going on

It was time for 'everyone' to speak up years ago, those that did were shouted down, ''fact'' apathy and private agendas, more the latter me thinks, but now chickens and roosting.

We've tried all that for decades.
