  1. Survival of the smaller harness clubs certainly is a battle, ashburton generally seem to have plenty of horses, times are getting tougher and costs higher, do manawatu still have the greyhounds, was trying to recall the name of the greyhound track there.
  2. Very true, could have ended up in the new 3$ school lunches, either give them the trots, or they'd be galloping around the playground.
  3. That certainly sums it up, always a worry when horses have those gutbuster runs, fingers crossed he's pulled up ok, I remember winning a hack race over 2000m metres with a horse we had a share in, sat 3 wide the trip no cover, and got there by skin of his teeth, for every one that can with a torrid trip, there be a lot that cant, just to tough to do.
  4. Yes very heavy the rain on the coast at times, glad to hear the rain eased in Dunedin, seemed a lot of surface flooding around the city, the hills got it harder by sound of it, hopefully all goes well for the clean up, and thoughts to those that have been effected.
  5. No show when your caught wide in good company, see how he goes next time, hopefully better.
  6. Not sure they know what rain is on the east coast, head to the westcoast and check out the mighty buller river, when sometimes water rises half way up the wall of hawkes craig, those big floods there a few years back certainly looked nasty, hopefully dunedin gets through ok, wouldn't wish a flooded property on anyone, be devastating.
  7. Shame to see another iconic stand bite the dust, who will be next one must wonder, the ole earthquake strengthening chesnut will see a few more no doubt, I just wonder what the odds are of an earthquake event coinciding with a day out at the races, when they dont race week in week out, fairly long one would imagine, but rules are rules these days and must be adhered to I guess.
  8. Interesting did I read an article where where they were looking at banning 2yr old racing, may have been in France, citing at 2yrs they are not mentally or physically ready for the rigours of racing, could have ramifications of the rest of the world if it happens.i wonder in the context of things how many are injured or retired, when they don't preform as juveniles, when another one of two years could make all the difference.
  9. Just goes to show, things not as bad as they look, awesome to hear all pulled up ok, don't think the posters are that negative, any passionate racing fan always hope's for the best outcome, so thanks to the bearer of good news.
  10. Grand sire who certainly had a story to tell, apparently spent some time on the station with another sire St REIMS, who apparently is at rest there.
  11. Won't be waisted, but I'm sure they'll get it back
  12. Can't seem to give some of them away, which is sad, but I guess time of the times.
  13. Got a bonus bet for my birthday,

Some more beautiful pics, you've had more travel than gulliver's, must get there one of these days,at the moment staying in the city, my wife just had the ole ticker modification, bouncing back, but does have the benefit of a bit more youth than me, fairly complex stuff, onwards an upward I say
  15. Totally agree, 40$ over the top, no way id pay that, was fortunate to have a galloper in the cup few years ago, glad I got free entry,.

Beautiful photos, such a scenic part of your area, the eels I remember were in a smaller creek, and an older lady was doing the showing and we feed em on a stick, many moons ago, must revisit the area,

Looking at that fire maybe it'll be a sausage sizzle, haven't been up that way for years, remember going to the poo poo springs, excuse the spelling ,as a child, quite stunning place, and feeding eels somewhere many moons ago, probably nowhere near your location, did get a glimpse of an article the other day, talking about the insurance for various areas up that way, didn't sound that good, crickey if they keep increasing the premiums no one be able to afford it, tough enough now, I better not wey into the the non binary debate, I think next time I'll tell my mate, I can go I've got nothing on.

Very nice photos, weather looks great to, a friend invited me to the nudist camp up there once, I said I can't go, I've got something on.
  19. Great old piece of history, as one could say, only on the coast.
  20. Can't say I heard anything on outcome of all this, but westland club sold there's early, think it went back to the council for minimal money.
  21. I'm sure he finished 3rd in a Melbourne cup on mercator to, that would have to be a career highlight.
  22. Great old piece of footage, interesting enough two of my old uncles were avid followers of the thoroughbreds, and one trained a few over the years, with very limited success, recall a story one of them backing Simon De montfort, the day he said the big price, the other one backed a horse called pinotage that won the other feature, at a very big price, the certainly rued they never took the double, which would have been huge, some stories just stick in your head, few good southerners in rastes, cup, sea swift, blovinski, blyme, millions joy to name a few.
  23. Good on you, the golden years of nz racing, great days, racing was popular, crowds were huge, many class performers, oh the memories, haven't times changed big time.
  24. Certainly both horses caused upsets at long odds, from memory the other south islander knight invader finished second, success for the south horses was quite rare back then, Jonny alone by by a not so popular sire blue vermillion, certainly brings back memories, the camera technology very different these days, interesting know the best shot and horse that stands out overs the years of photography, bet there's been a few.
  25. Didn't he win a Wellington fup on Rastes, many years ago, and the jarden mile on south islander Johnny alone, going back many a year, great he's still involved in the game.
