  1. Mine are in grassed paddocks 24/7-they get oats , chaff, hay --I could not abide them being caged like battery chooks The only feeding exception I can recall was a mare that tied up badly until the oats were swapped for sunflower seeds.
  2. i WAS impressed by LBJ when I first saw him at Avondale [stringhalt and all ] and later by his fighting/biting I sent 5 mares to him, only 2 got in foal --one foal won a group 2 yo race at Ellerslie, the other a Derby His trip to Auckland resulted in a shocking decision by the stipes to replace his regular rider
  3. reminds me of LBJ
  4. And thousands of instances reported in USA where Bute is permitted
  5. Bute is dangerous and I suspect stuff maybe as well Sore horses should not be worked and if you are feeding them Melox or Bute that hides the pain then how do you know they are sore and liable to breakdown?
  6. What was wrong with this horse that he required treatment for 3 days during the week before his race?
  7. Did not D Ellis once buy a major stud farm in Cambridge?
  8. There seems to be a lot more promotion of Te AKau this year --not just Trackside TV but heaps of full page ads in he N Z Herald.
  9. Beware the stallion stats--a lot fewer sires are needed today, not just for the reduced numbers of mares but more the numbers each stallion serves,. In the days of Le Filou 45 was a full book, now its 150 and more, In Ireland one managed 500 -methinks the Guiness had a hint of blue.
  10. I see Des passed away aged 96 A good reliable rider who could understand instructions. the boy from the Brynderwyns rode my first winner , it was a while ago.
  11. I doubt that this was a mistaken administration --no senior staff member could make a mistake like that with the best 2yo in the country. I think it much more likely that the drug is in common usage after a young horse has a gallop or race and the withholding days were mistaken.
  12. I guess the trainers percentage would be better in HongKong.
  13. So if the horses had raced they would not have returned a positive test. Seems like one of those cases where 'they are out o get a person' spying ik the hope of finding anything that suited their purpose. Had she been overly successful? '

    Meloxicam

A young fella yesterday told me he thought it was given to young horses after a gallop to stop them going shinny. I don't know as in 60 years of racing I have never had one go shinny- I guess that is because they run around in paddocks 24;7
  15. I looked this stuff up , its uses and side effects and can only wonder why anyone would give it to a horse especially on a regular basis.
  16. The horse will be disqualified -that's the rule Talk elsewhere of precedents for non-disqualification are tripe-the last incident was an Auckland cup winner allowed to retain the race because the connections were above reproach -that was a very long time ago and I would be kinda cross if it happened again.
  17. Do 5hey lose money on fixed odds ? -make less than the tote ? make more ?
  18. The more that share a pie the smaller the slices

Lift them? I recall a rather aged and worn Yeman [then trained by Irvine Tucker] in the Chalmers , 2 miles at Trenthan A line of horses across the track and Bill sitting quiet as a mouse until the last few strides then action -he appeared to pick the horse up and throw it across the line in first place One of the greats

No Chief I have not missed those you mention but my opinion remains. Interesting to reflect on the family connections that pervade our sport The 3 Cassidy brothers Shane's grandfather a capable rider Lance's farther a jockey and top trainer as was his brother and grandfarther J MAC'S dad a capable rider -=as was Opie;s god father I don't know re CWJ or M Walker
  21. Sad to see the end of his riding days -he and J Mac the very best hoops we have seen in the last 50 years.
  22. That was a fabulous field -Bob [jockey; told me he had nowhere to go in the final stages so he closed his eyes and the horse found its gap all by himself
  23. Not so flash here in the Far North
