  1. They have this strange rule where they say if a horse tries to push in early in a race then you just have to surrender and go on the fence.I think they say the outside horse only has to have a slight advantage to do that, but when you see it happen in the circumstances you have highlighted,it all looks rather messy. In this case you had D ferguson doing the pushing in,and hes one of those drivers that loves to push and shove, even if he has only a slight advantage. Its no wonder the inside horse broke as its been known to break for no reason sometimes.
  2. I also remember working at a place where there were about 200 people in the lunch area where trackside used to play when people were having there lunches, and i remember a time when whenever we had a horse racing all the aunties and uncles and cousins in their various households would tune in and watch the horses race, and how many would go and place a bet. When they took away free to air racing they took away so many peoples access to the product. It was a short term business decision made that always was going to cost them long term. And of course have you ever tried to get a motel that has trackside. Its not that easy in some places.
  3. I fully agree. If you do the stats the advantage of draws is of more significance. If you look at the racing, they are mostly non competitive, follow the horse in front of you type races, with very few making mid race moves .You know after 200m whether the horse your fancy can run a place or not.If the driver has gone back, throw your tickets away. I always think the most boring racing in australasia is the mile races at menagle. Its so boring. No one ever moves up. The grass tracks have gone to sprint racing as well which i can't work out why. And is NZ racing ever going to get free to air tv coverage again? That had to be one of the dumbest decisions ever made by nz racing to limit exposure of the sport. In australia they have brought back free to air racing coverage in many of the states.I remember when the first took it off the nz free to air channel,in my job i had about 6 people say to me how they missed it,as even though they didn't bet very often, they and their partners enjoyed watching it. Those people and their famalies no longer are exposed to the sport. They will no longer have or develop a racing interest.
  4. Today 8 of the 9 horses that won were in front with 1400m to go,and the other one was the 2400 stand where the winner was 2nd,in the trail with 1400m to go. The horses that ran third in the first 7 races all raced 3 back the fence, and followed the first 2 home.. Only 2 horses in the entire meeting managed to place from further back than 3rd with a round to go.
  5. Looks like the whale has found some form with a couple of winners. One backed in from $10 into $4.20. Theres been 6 races, and only a couple of drivers have bothered to make a mid race move, and in every race the first 2 home have been the leader and horse behind the leader with 1200m to go,,and every race the 3rd horse has followed them through from 3 back the fence.
  6. It will be interesting to see what official censure,if any, occurs as a result of the tactics of Tim Williams and Brad Williamson in this race. Now my opinion is they shouldn't receive a penalty, but given how C Negus was suspended for 4 months and fined for something far, far, far more insignificant, there appears little option for officialdom. If Williams and Williamson aren't charged, and given lengthy suspensions, then it will be the most obvious case seen in recent times of one rule for the high profile, and another for the small players. I said at the time of charging and finding Negus guilty ,that they had made a mistake to charge her,as they had set a precedent that would require the consistent application of the rules.
  7. well i do my form, but thought the $13 that it opened at was accurate, and the $5 it closed at as a bit ridiculous. I rate myself better than the whale. The point was people back anything the whale tips even if they are paying almost 1/3 of what they should be. Just an observation.
  8. The whale lovers again plunging a horse in the last tonight from $13 into $5. No apparent reason for it i could see based on its form. I know he is knowledgeable, but I just can't work out why punters back his tips whether the price is realistic or not. Thats about 4 meetings in a row where you would have come out behind if you had a $1 e/w on his selections for each meeting.Maybe hes due a change of luck soon and will get back into form?
  9. Personally i think if they should have asked the question. Punters deserve to be informed when a horse has a complete turn around in form.. The previous start it paced awful the whole way and broke for no apparent reason with 250m to go. It had trialed poorly prior to that run. O.K. it had gone ok at a recent trial, but the more information the punter has the better.
  10. I know its not harness racing, but Meikayla moore,nz all white womans player has also achieved international fame. In 36 minutes in the game between the usa and nz,moore scored 3 very clever goals, but only problem was they were against her own team. Its well worth a look on the video. They used to make an add with that type of theme, minties moments, everyone used to enjoy that type of thing, but not so much these days.I wonder if it made the news on tv?
  11. I had the same thought and checked that as well, but maybe they just haven't updated it.Its a possible explanation as to why the horse happy place was scratched by the stewards last week, but who knows. The lack of transparency is poor. Are they trying to hide something? It just fuels speculation.
  12. Looks like the media will soon start pushing the government line of the protest being a super spreader event.Just watch. The government are desperate for that narrative.
  13. Sounds like a lack of transparency. So people are left to guess why the stipes ordered the withdrawal of her horse the other night. Maybe you've explained why,but no clarification from authorities.
  14. So whats the circumstances around the stewards scratching another Wigg horse the other night? Seems rather strange that it happens when they have the older matter still pending,or has that been dealt with. Does it mean they have done something they aren't supposed to again?
  15. I have to admit i didn't see what you did today,so i went back and watched every race. In total there were 6 breakers at the crossing in 4 of the 11 races. 2 were driven by r mcilwrick and personally i think you never know what hes going to do,but one it appeared he contributed to it breaking. 1 was a non win trotter having just its second chance, another was Top pocket chance who nearly always breaks for no reason, and the other 2 were Winning Bones and Cast a shadow who only broke for a couple of strides. i agree some crossings seem too rough, but today it caused very few issues.
  16. No idea how that works myself, but i would be quite happy to collect $999 each day.The reason they felt the need to bring in the anti money laundering thing a couple of years back was because it happens. Heck i remember about 20 years ago having a good week on the punt each day and when i went to get my money out for the 4th time in as many days, the TAB manager wouldn't give it to me because he said i was money laundering and he was on to me about getting my money from some sort of criminal activity. Those were the days.I wish i had the same problem now days.
  17. Everyone has there own assessment i guess. But even the whale bases his selections on the opening prices as he is always quoting them when giving his selections. So when the prices drop so much,as they always seem to,then i'm pretty sure the whale wouldn't think the starting prices would be worth betting on. I guess his supporters rely on him to just pick winners, and seem happy to back them whatever the price.Maybe thats why he picks so many short priced favorites. The TAB are well known for opening horses at conservative prices,so punters who back them at the reduced prices aren't using a winning formula. i did have a theory that one or two of the punters who follow him with large investments may be trying to launder their money. Just a hunch but who knows.
  18. So today his 3 tips prices dropped from opening at $2.80 to $1.85, $4.20 to $3.30 and $7.50 to $3.20. They all closed well under what they should have. He got 2 seconds. Still, can't deny today he did help the TAB fixed odds turnover by the sounds of it. Amongst some bets on arizona wildcat were bets of $6,500 and $5000 at $3.30 according to the trackside presenter. They almost came off but the horse looked a little flat from the fast race it ran in 6 days ago. Amazing that people would put so much money on a horse at the reduced dividend, when its opening price which was double that, was about right. The power of the whale.
  19. Doesn't rock your boat" i thought was a common saying, being a colourful way of saying if it doesn't excite you. Seems you have taken my attempt at wit in a way not intended. Guess that is my fault as i wondered whether that may happen a few minutes after i posted it. But once its there can't rethink it later. I enjoyed my attempt at humour at the time, even though some may not.
  20. If you mean my logic is an 8 horse field with a $2.20 favorite would attract more betting than a 6 horse field with a $1.70 favorite.Well yes i think thats a given.
  21. Also, just ask yourself this,Would the TAB promote the whale watch on their betting website like it does, above each harness meeting,if they were losing on the fixed odds betting?
  22. I've been watching the whale watch in recent times.Theres no doubting he knows his stuff, but also theres no doubt he kills the price of every horse he tips to the extent that if you were putting a $ each way on all his selections you would barely be breaking even. Last night he had a couple of scratchings, but 2 of his 4 selections managed to win. Still,as per normal, you would still have only got $7 back from an $8 investment for the $1 each way. I'm not convinced promoting his selections helps turnover. There is never any value in backing one of his selections as every time,no exception, they are always unders on what a fair price would be. I see he has tipped one in the last today that i liked, but because hes tipped it personlly i will give the race a miss. The horse is arizona wildcat. It opened at $7.50,which seemed a fair price,(not that anyone who wanted to put much on would be able to back it anyway). But he will kill the tote price as well,as theres a definite pattern of people betting on the tote after a horses fixed odds drop. I suggest people watch that price drop. I'm guessing because the whale has tipped it and john dunn is driving it,it will be the biggest mover of the day and start around $3.20. And that would be a ridiculous price.
  23. If it is, your missing the fallout from the biggest doping scandal in your lifetime. You'll never see anything like it again. Its obviously centered around the USA but some of those charged are known to have connections globally. If whats been posted so far doesn't rock your boat, then i'll see if i can find a connection to climate change and gender dysphoria for you.
  24. Just looked at the tote pool showing when race closed for the main pacing race tonight at addington. The oamaru race run on a wednesday afternoon had more in the tote pools. And that oamaru race the commentator referred to a few times as lacking any form and was for 1 win horses. The point is some of these races on friday nights would be better off run as midweek races as they are turn offs from a betting perspective. If the point is to maximise turnover on a friday, why have small fields with $1.70 favorites as we seem to have seen all night tonight. Give us some lower grade, even betting fields to at least encourage punter participation.
  25. Thats pleasing to see ,but we knew it had to be something like that. Adern and her government live in an echo chamber of one dimensional thinking, but parties like national and the greens have promoted the same thinking and are out of touch as well. To their credit Act seem to be able to read the views of New Zealanders. I've been a winston/nz first supporter for some time, and while at least he came out a few days ago in semi support of the protests,i've been disappointed he has badly missed an opportunity to represent part of the nz population.Had he done so earlier he would have regained support, but he didn't,just like the rest of them.
