  1. Plenty of current top trainers can be said the same of .....
  2. Grrrrrr - can't delete a doubled up post!
  3. Jamie is a very good horseman, farrier and obviously mentor. Fantastic start for Darren on a circuit that is hard to win one race on let alone 7! All the best for the future young fella.
  4. Making up the numbers - that meeting always struggles as it's too far away from the main horse population, restricted programme and only a one day thing. In the old days (when fuel was cheaper), Geoff Small used to take a truckload of his lesser lights down and won everything.
  5. You're right though - if I had a grass tracker that was likely to get spanked at Cambridge Raceway I'd withdraw it rather than have it moved to make up the numbers.
  6. Traditionally at this time of year the grass tracks get better support from owners, trainers and punters and occasionally extra races have been created to cater for the nominations. I think the club anticipates this to be the case again, but since the Friday is their centenary celebration they are understandably wanting to get as many horses there as possible. With the low horse numbers in the North though, I don't think either meeting will have a full race card unfortunately.
  7. Is the club anticipating a lack of nominations for their well staked Centenary meeting on 11 January with the grass track meeting at Te Aroha being held the next day? The programming conditions for Te Aroha would suggest so ..... 4. RESTRICTED PROGRAMME: Owners and trainers please note that no more than ten races will be run at this meeting. If excess nominations are received, in consultation with trainers horses may then be required to transfer to a suitable race at the Waikato Bay of Plenty Harness meeting at Cambridge Raceway on the preceeding night race meeting on Fri, January 11, 2019.
  8. Surely the loss of 1.8 kg was a welfare concern that justified withdrawal in this case too? http://www.jca.org.nz/non-race-day-hearings/non-raceday-inquiry-riu-v-j-mcinerney-written-reserved-decision-dated-18-december-2018-chair-prof-g-hall
  9. The talk amongst trainers at the Park tonight was that nobody (that I spoke to anyway) could believe Mr Yips held the race. Was told that one of those trainers went into the stipes room last night seeking clarification of the rule and was shut down very quickly. One trainer said that Herlihy was as surprised as anyone that he wasn't disqualified!
  10. Not many Waikato or Auckland trainers are bothering to travel.
  11. Ben Butcher - broken collarbone?
  12. Bullshit decision - breached the push out rule when he forced his way back onto the track .... About Turn pushed 3 wide yet apparently Mr Yips didn't gain an advantage - load of crap!
  13. Manawatu are light on staff which probably helps - I believe Cambridge losses are in the hundreds of thousands every year and they have a far larger pool of horses available to them. Traveling to race at Manawatu is an expensive exercise.
  14. They have a pretty good handle on Fraud .... which is what race fixing is.
  15. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12173062 Probably be the lead mainstream news story tonight
  16. Heard the whisper this morning!
  17. Absolutely - would assume that anyone charged with "administering" could be prosecuted by both the RIU and Police .... just like someone charged with assault can be taken to Court both civilly and criminally.
  18. It will be another criminal race-fixing charge based on the wording in the article.
  19. and so it goes on https://theinformant.co.nz/operation-inca-accused-appear-in-court/?fbclid=IwAR2g0U-k7mWuzYjva84u-OgsuVHCLmuyqlfBMvEtpaDyKuKTVJfeLopyzJw
  20. That was kept pretty quiet
  21. Yep - if they had concerns, blood should have been taken on the Sunday morning.
  22. GK mentioned on the Turn It Up Podcast that the newly charged person is not a licence holder
  23. On that we can agree
  24. Not if (for example) they have recorded conversations of driver Z agreeing to ensure their horse (say the favourite) will finish outside the first four placings .... that means that every punter that's included that horse in their betting combinations has lost money - not to mention the owner and trainer of said horse. From all accounts, this is not about publicly made statements but about secret recordings of implicated parties.
  25. Have you read the legislation? No money needs to be made behind the scenes - there can simply be a loss to others for a "fix" to be proved ....
