Dead right it's daylight robbery, but I guess a lot of crime happens late on a Saturday night (when I was looking at the fields). And at that time, numbers 1, 8 and 9 were already removed from the market, leaving a field of 15 runners at 158%

Funniest post I've read. Classic. This explains why Brodie isn't posting his picks for me/us on this thread. He is too busy and preoccupied at the moment, for the greater good. Top man. And likewise, I really hope the Spitfire gets up today. Connections deserve it badly, and it would be great to see him win, or even just fall in for third would be something. I won't be taking the very generous money of 7's on offer, but I will be at home yelling at the tv and belting my leg to help him get home.

Dead right Happy. 100%. No, actually you are 158% correct. It is all very well for them and others to brag that "the market is already open, the odds are out (early)." Bullsh!t. Noone should give a monkey's if the odds are out early, and they are set at damn near 160%! Jesus. As sure as night follows day, the TAB will lengthen out most of the outsiders, closer to start time. They have to. They have to because the market percentages need to be closer between the tote and the final field odds. And there is every chance, a good chance, that the tote divi's will be a lot higher than the final field odds on offer. And if they are not, then the favourites will be better on the tote. The rare occurence where the TAB offers stupid money (market opening odds), on a decent horse in a race (i.e they misread the market), there is the possibility that they cancel the bet and say the odds set were wrong (like Love N The Port a few months back). Sneaky bastards have the rules to suit themselves. And then they bitch and moan about offshore leakage, and wonder why. Give me a break.

Good to see he reads this channel. Either that, or it was just a scary freaky coincidence that he tweeted (if that is even a word) about the exact same rant as me 30 minutes after my post, late on a lazy Saturday night. Good on him though. He has a big audience, and the more people that can be made aware of these bastards trying to rip us off, the better.

Where's Brodie? Where are your selections bra? You are always on the money, and I hate grass track racing, I could never pick my nose on a grass track for the trots, so I need your picks to help me out a bit brother for this comp. Hope you haven't come down with that flu that's on the telly all the time? Didn't I tell you not to eat too many bats?

Methven race 5 final field odds - 158% betting market percentage. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-EIGHT. At least a bank robber would do the decent thing and give some clues, that they are stealing!! 158% is criminal. Market opened at 137% But then a few hours later, the market changed, and here it is: #1 scratched #2 - 21's into 18's #3 - 5.50 into 4.80 #4 - 7's into 4.80 #5 & #6 no change #7 - 21's into 13's #8 & #9 scratched #10 & #11 no change #12 - 6.50 into 6 #13 - no change #14 - 6 into 4.20 #15, #16, #17 & #18 no change Do we see a wee sneaky pattern here? So out of the 15 runners, odds of 6 horses were reduced, some quite noticeably. But here's the thing - Not one single horse drifted in the market (final field). It's fine and dandy to say if you don't like the odds on offer, don't bet into that market. That market at one hundred and fifty bloody eight percent. That's fine I will not. But a large portion of punters out there, are blind to this. And they deserve to be treated better than getting ripped off blind. Let's get this straight. The people setting and adjusting these markets are not bookies. They are not bookmakers. Real, genuine bookmakers, wouldn't operate markets the way they do in Petone.

Seriously Denis O’Connell- Hand your license in!!!!
Rusty replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
I reckon he thought he was driving Self Assured in that race! Bloody hell. -
Brilliant line! I love it! Good luck mate with the comp.

Thanks very much Happy, ya legend! You picked that like a dirty nose. My bloody thigh is sore again, from whacking it, trying to get that horse up, but how good was the place money?! $4.80!

Last race 8.35pm?! Is this Aussie time, or NZ time? If NZ time, this is getting ridiculous, from a viewer's perspective. God it takes me until 7.30pm just to comb my hair, put me teeth in and put on my face. Maybe it's a good thing I can't attend tonight due to the Covid restrictions. I'd never get there in time. Great for trainers, drivers, stablehands etc though. Perhaps they deserve it, especially the ones that get up early in the morning.

"Damaging the look of harness racing"?!?! The look of it. Damaging the look of it. It's a funny phrase to use. Who, and how many are "looking" at it? Only some industry participants would have been looking at it and I'd suggest not too many people would even care a great deal about it. "Damaging the look of it." Team driving. It happens. Sometimes the stipes will address it by saying it breaks the rules of the game. Does breaking the rules, mean cheating is occurring? Like you said Brodie, HRNZ should be addressing other things that have damaged the image of the sport, or better still, putting more energy into promoting the sport to the general public. Now that would be a good look. To many; active, current and past industry participants, plus the wider public and community in general.

I collected off Claus. By mistake. I was supposed to have backed Clyde, but got the racehorses named Clyde and Claus mixed up! Sometimes being an old forgetful dumbarse pays dividends!
-
The wizard, Willie Pike. There's a saying in Oz: "back Pike in the last." Usually heard in states on the eastern seaboard, from punters looking for a winner in WA, but it worked a treat at Caulfield yesterday.

Thanks everyone for putting their picks up today. It always adds some interest to the racing throughout the day. And a thank you too, from my whanau. With a few collects today, I managed to buy a 2L bottle of Meadow Fresh Farmgate Silvertop milk, instead of a 2L dairy dale bottle!

Where's our man Dougie? Dougie! Come in and give us a few picks for today please. I gotta go to the supermarket tonight and get the groceries, so need your selections for Addington this afternoon brother.

One person put a fiver on the nose. Enough to crunch the odds. And at the same time, not lengthen anything else out.
-
And that, your point above Huey, is in my opinion the most important aspect of all.

You are not alone mate. I, and I am sure many, many others, were pretty much in the same boat. And not just for today. It's all very well for some people to say, just use the app on your smartphone, use bluetooth, etc but the reality of it is, it just isn't as simple as that. Many people in the racing game live and/or work in rural areas, where wifi and mobile data is iffy. And even with good reception, many cell phone batteries, if not most, just can't handle the jandal without a charge at some point throughout the day, especially when working outdoors, and using the cell phone speaker at loud levels.

Race 2 Deja Blue. I think she is going well enough of late and has to be one of the better 20+ start maidens going around. $2.90 FF Place seems ok to me.

100% Dead right Brodie, couldn't agree more.

"Another level". Another level to what? To what we have now? And if so, is it another level down, so the whole of racing experience becomes even worse than what it is now? Or have we hit rock bottom, and the "another level" means we can only go one way? i.e up. The term "world-class" is bandied about a lot, especially by government departments. What it really means, what it translates to, is that the current system/service/product is utter sh!t, and they will try and improve. Maybe they got mixed up, and really mean this "world class" thing, is actually "third-world"?! Bugger third world, bugger "world class" horse manure, try first class... If they mean "world class" - this means the following needs to eventuate: 1. Trackside Radio returns. And returns on both, AM and FM frequencies. 2. Extensive Newspaper coverage with full fields, comment and photos (think Aussie major daily newspapers) swings back into action. 3. Live and free-to-air racing on TV (for everyone) returns on a dedicated channel, focussing on domestic and Aussie (city racing, not bush racing rubbish), with on-course presenters etc. Then, and only then, once the aforementioned 3 points are implemented, can they (NZ TAB) try and make the whole "betting and entertainment services" FIRST FARKN CLASS, and not the white fat flabby hairy pimply arse it is now. Right rant over. Get on with it Dean. Good luck Jessica, Edward, Sam and Glen.

I'm just going to leave this here... and see what happens. By about 3.40pm we should find out. I've lost count on how many times I've heard a trainer/owner/driver/jockey bag the handicapper pre-race, and then subsequently their horse has gone out and ended up winning the race. Happens in both codes. I'm not saying I disagree with their comments (or even the comments made by Mark Jones), as usually I'm in agreeance with them (anti-handicapper), but it's just an observation, that often the horse will run really well, if not win. I am a fan of Mark Jones and his team, especially Burnham Boy, so I hope he goes out there and brains them, to steal Davey Macs phrase.
